Background / History

Gu Rong was originally a senior figure of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect and raised his grandson, Han Yu, while Han Yu's parents traveled in pursuit of breakthroughs to the Title Douluo realm. Han Yu inherited part of Gu Rong's Bone Dragon lineage through his mother, Gu Yu. 1

After Han Yu recovered memories of his previous life, the pair raided the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well for immortal herbs. Gu Rong chose the Eight-Petaled Immortal Orchid to heal old injuries and escaped the level 95 bottleneck, reaching level 96 peak. 1

When Ning Rongrong's conduct jeopardized her betrothal to Han Yu, Gu Rong sided firmly with Han Yu. He left the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect alongside his grandson and became Great Elder when Han Yu founded the Ling Tian Sect. 9 10

Han Yu later taught him the Soul Core condensation method. This gave Gu Rong a route beyond level 96 and enabled his eventual breakthrough to level 97. 10 44 As Ling Tian Sect expanded, Gu Rong served as one of its foremost protectors, recruiters, combatants, and strategic advisers. 31 34 91

At Sea God Island, Gu Rong received seven Sea God Trials. Gu Rong is boisterous, proud, and intensely protective of Han Yu. He regularly celebrates Han Yu's gains as his own and openly regards his grandson as superior to Ning Fengzhi and the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect. 5 9

He is also ruthless toward enemies and those who threaten Ling Tian Sect. He crippled Tang Hao, abducted Xiao Wu through spatial movement, and personally slaughtered Yu Yuanzhen, Yu Tianheng, and several Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan elders. 46 49 110

Despite his aggression, Gu Rong is receptive to Han Yu's plans and knowledge. He follows Han Yu's strategic restraint, such as leaving Xiao Wu alive until she could be exploited as leverage, and eagerly studies techniques Han Yu provides. 5 10

Gu Rong is politically pragmatic and regards mercy, honor, and promises as unnecessary when dealing with hostile forces.
