Background / History
Han Yu established Ling Tian Sect after securing the loyalty of Meng Shu and Chao Tianxiang through immortal herbs intended to help them break through. Their family and the Exotic Beast Academy supplied the newly founded sect with an immediate institutional base, while Gu Rong accepted the position of Great Elder. Han Yu chose the name “Ling Tian Sect” after rejecting “Sacred Dragon Sect,” which was already used by the Tuoba family. 9
The sect initially operated from a residence in Heaven Dou City. Dugu Bo joined as an elder after Han Yu offered treatment for the poison afflicting both Dugu Bo and Dugu Yan; he was later appointed Chief Elder and assigned to establish poison formations for the sect’s defense. 11 18
Following Meng Shu’s breakthrough to Title Douluo, Han Yu began seeking a larger permanent territory. The sect chose the outskirts of Sunset Forest for its headquarters and planned to relocate the Exotic Beast Academy alongside it, creating Ling Tian Academy to cultivate its younger generation and enter the Elite Tournament. 33 34 60
Han Yu expanded the sect by recruiting the Defense, Agility, and Breaking Clans. The Strength Clan was excluded because of Tai Tan’s loyalty to the Clear Sky Sect. 34 40 41
The new Sunset Forest headquarters was completed under Niu Gao’s direction. Built as a fortified complex in a mountain valley, it contains auxiliary halls, an Elder Hall, disciple quarters, a martial arts arena, a scripture library, alchemy rooms, and exceptionally thick granite walls designed by the Defense Clan. Han Yu formally declared the sect settled there after its completion. 59 60
After Han Feng and Gu Yu returned from the Sun Moon Empire as Title Douluo and Soul Tool specialists, Ling Tian Sect began pursuing Soul Tool production and external trade. Heaven Dou Empire agreed to purchase fifty Level 4 Soul Cannons for fifty million Gold Soul Coins. 63 83 101
Ling Tian Sect Team won the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Elite Tournament through the coordinated efforts of Dugu Yan, Niu Zhuang, Yang Tie, Bai Chenxiang, Meng Yiran, and Ye Lingling, without Han Yu needing to fight. In the subsequent Seven Great Sects Ranking Tournament, Han Yu personally defeated the newly advanced Title Douluo Tuoba Xi with a single punch, and Ling Tian Sect ultimately attained recognition as the Number One Sect Under Heaven. 132 137 143
After the Ranking Tournament, the sect’s Soul Tool industry expanded into mass production and public commerce. Its products include Level 5 defensive Soul Tools capable of automatically protecting users against attacks from Soul Kings and ordinary Soul Emperors, as well as storage, attack, and auxiliary tools sold through Ling Tian Sect chambers of commerce. 171
Ling Tian Sect’s influence became increasingly political after its victory over Clear Sky Sect shocked the continent and stabilized the Heaven Dou Empire. Han Yu accepted Prince Xue Xing’s proposed State Sect arrangement in principle while delaying direct intervention until Qian Renxue completed her internal purge. He subsequently began planning to absorb the Heaven Dou Empire into a Douluo Federation, beginning with the Balak Kingdom. 194 207 209
The sect continued expanding through voluntary submission. Feng Lie merged the Wind Sword Sect into Ling Tian Sect as the Wind Sword Hall, while Tuoba Xi later placed Sacred Dragon Sect under Ling Tian Sect’s protection and command to avoid becoming expendable to Martial Soul Hall. 217 227

Trivia
- The sect’s name was chosen because Han Yu’s preferred name, Sacred Dragon Sect, was already used by the Tuoba family. 9
- Han Yu regarded the immortal-herb exchange for Meng Shu and Chao Tianxiang’s family and academy as the sect’s first major investment in an existing foundation. 9
- Ling Tian Sect’s academy team initially had only three members—Dugu Yan, Ye Lingling, and Meng Yiran—before Han Yu ordered further recruitment to reach the required seven. 60
- The eventual Elite Tournament lineup was built around Dugu Yan’s poison, Niu Zhuang’s defense, Yang Tie’s offense, Bai Chenxiang’s speed, Meng Yiran’s finishing ability, and Ye Lingling’s healing. 132
- Tuoba Xi later reveals that the Tuoba family’s Sacred Dragon Martial Soul lineage is distantly related to Han Yu’s family line, helping motivate Sacred Dragon Sect’s approach to Ling Tian Sect. 226
