| Fifth Tier | 474 475 | God’s Blood drives his body through Fifth Tier; he transfers the excess energy to Mistral, while his own breakthrough to Fifth Tier is subsequently confirmed. |
Background / History
Meng Qing was originally an ordinary student who died in a traffic accident while reading web novels. He transmigrated into the body of Chu Yang, a reborn character whose soul had already been erased. Before entering the world, he had only read the novel through Chapter 113, leaving him with incomplete foreknowledge and no reliable allies. 114 115
His earliest priority was simply surviving to the end of the story. He considered the major supernatural factions unsafe, feared being exposed as a transmigrator, and tried to avoid situations that resembled major plot events. Chu Yang’s father eventually recognized that Meng Qing was not his son, but accepted him as the soul inhabiting his son’s body. 114 137
While seeking safety before nightfall, Meng Qing found the Exiled’s Library. Chen Ye recognized the body-snatching immediately, heard Meng Qing’s account of his transmigration, and allowed him to borrow The Man Whose Eyes Were Dug Out. The book gave him temporary abilities only while he continued studying its contents. 115 158 177
After the Golden Trident appeared before him, Meng Qing chose to accompany Ghoul rather than Vespa and was brought to Qin Leng. He surrendered the trident to the Nine-Tailed Fox commander, later joining the Right Hand Unit and receiving mental-power training. 142 145 165
During the apocalypse and the Right Hand Unit’s rebellion, he escaped alongside Yang Jian through the Exiled’s Library. He rented the Silver Thread Needle and later used it as payment for Ye Long’s protection after the Dragon saved him from the Lord of the Red Flow. 176 177 188 193
Following his Awakening, Meng Qing trained obsessively to strengthen both body and mind, joined the Hand of the Serpent under the identity of Lord Set, and pursued Magic Potions as the quickest route to becoming a Sequence. He began mentoring Yang Lin after encountering him during this period. 216 221 336
Meng Qing concealed his connection to the Nine-Tailed Fox behind a mask and deliberately kept his true identity from Qin Leng. His past as the missing Right Hand Unit member was later exposed by Sequence 009, who discovered Qin Leng’s note asking whether the future of the Nine-Tailed Fox could be entrusted to Meng Qing. 239 344 376 554
After advancing to Fourth and then Fifth Tier, he became a major power on the Central Continent. He and Mistral used the Magic Web and the Fate Thread to investigate causality, build influence, and form alliances against Sequence 009. 461 475 498
Appearance
Meng Qing usually conceals himself beneath a black robe and mask, treating the mask as a vital safeguard against recognition. When unmasked, he has black hair and a somewhat haggard face. 213 216 377 382
- Often carries the Demon Blade wrapped in cloth. 216
- Uses white and red masks at different points to obscure his identity. 344 393
- His right pupil temporarily became heart-shaped after viewing a blue-haired woman through the Fate Thread. 499
Personality
Meng Qing is survival-driven, cautious, and highly pragmatic. He initially approaches the supernatural world as someone who expects to die if he takes unnecessary risks, frequently choosing retreat, neutrality, or whichever side appears most likely to preserve his life. 115 138 176 239
He openly considers himself selfish and evaluates relationships through value, need, and exchange. Even so, he is capable of loyalty when he gives his word: he protects Yang Lin from Li Yuan because of a promise tied to someone within himself, despite the danger to his own future. 344 381 382
His caution does not prevent bold planning. He conceals a Magic Potion until the exact moment it can secure his evolution, intentionally loses a game of Go to avoid exposing his intentions, and leverages information to force stronger figures into negotiations. 355 377 500
