Background

Chen Ye began as an experimenter who administered a green potion to an injured man during a rainstorm, transforming him into the Deep One designated 002. He calmly documented the result rather than addressing the subject’s terror, establishing his practice of treating living beings as experimental material 1.

He expanded his work from a North Ridge City coffee shop and apartment, producing the early Sequences: Mimic, Deep One, Invisible Man, Queen Bee, and Wall Breaker. He recorded each result, named his creations by serial number, and used potions that could bind subjects to his will 3 4 12.

After acquiring bodily mutations of his own, Chen Ye became increasingly concerned with imagined hostile organizations and personal survival. He began pursuing an immortality trait, regarding even his creations as replaceable test subjects rather than subordinates 26. His clash with Chu Yang culminated in an explosion that appeared to kill him, but instead triggered his emergence as the Death God 38 43.

As the Death God, Chen Ye collected Ancient Relics, studied fate lines, and sought people with unusual traits or potential. He concluded that a potion’s outcome was shaped not only by its ingredients, but also by the recipient’s subconscious desire and individual will 52 75 131.

Chen Ye eventually returned as the Sequences’ creator, identifying himself as 000: God and convening their souls to judge their conflicts and ambitions 398 399. He orchestrated a millennium-long competition among the Sequences in part to draw out Ao Zuo, whose energy Chen Ye needed to reach Seven Tiers 434 435.

After ascending, Chen Ye was reportedly slain during the conflict with Entropy, yet a being calling himself Meng Xuan later revealed himself to be Chen Ye and claimed possession of the Evolution Chapter 668 689. Sequence 009 subsequently used the Infinite Chapter to summon the Sovereign back 718.

In the final conflict, Chen Ye recovered the Space, Destruction, and Evolution Chapters, activated the Key of World Annihilation, and began killing Seven Tiers beings and Sequences to fuel an evolution beyond the world’s limits 735. Alone in the void after the world’s destruction, he chose to delete his own existence 740.

Chen Ye’s appearance changes drastically with his transformations and projections. In human guise, he appears as a young black-haired man; as the Death God, he wears black robes and manifests skeletal features; in his higher form, he has six arms and overwhelming divine presence 1 43 666 735.

Chen Ye is detached, clinical, and relentlessly curious. He records transformations as data and is willing to force potions upon unwilling subjects when experimentation requires it. He does not consider most of his creations true subordinates, believing they can be replaced as long as he can make more potions 1 26 100.

He is also manipulative and theatrical. Chen Ye frequently withholds information, predicts others’ choices, turns people into unwitting pieces in larger plans, and derives amusement from their discomfort or uncertainty 196 399 434. His confidence is rooted in his belief that fate, evolution, and ultimately reality itself can be understood and controlled.

His central ambition is godhood: not merely power, but an omniscient, omnipotent, incomprehensible state assembled through collected traits and conceptual abilities 75. Even after attaining Seven Tiers, however, he experiences profound emptiness and ultimately chooses erasure over eternal isolation 475 740.
