Background
Shrek Academy is a ten-thousand-year institution regarded as the continent’s foremost soul master academy. Its reputation, deep foundation, and resources are sufficiently influential that Dai Tu considers enrollment a possible safeguard even against the White Tiger Duke Mansion and the Star Luo Empire 5.
The academy is based in Shrek City, a major Heaven Dou Empire city. Its campus has a ten-zhang-high gate topped by a Shrek-creature statue, separate inner and outer courts, soul tool barriers, Titled Douluo defenders, and the elevated Sea God Pavilion 45 46 62.
Organization
Sea God Pavilion
The Sea God Pavilion serves as Shrek Academy’s highest authority.
- Mu En — Dragon God Douluo and Pavilion Master; intervenes in the battle between Du Busi and Xuan Zi, later adjudicates the Body Sect’s demand for Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong 62 64.
- Xuan Zi — Taotie Douluo, Rank 98 Super Douluo, and Sea God Pavilion Elder. He repeatedly defends the academy’s prestige and attempts to prevent Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong from leaving 58 60.
- Yan Shaozhe — Sea God Pavilion elder who receives Mu En’s instruction to have Ma Xiaotao test Lan San’s strength 133.
- Qian Duoduo — Elder angered by Dai Tu’s challenge to the academy’s younger generation 64.
Courts and disciple status
- The academy maintains outer and inner courts; its tournament main team is ordinarily selected from inner-court disciples under twenty-five who have reached at least Rank 40 132.
- Core disciples receive elevated standing and resources. “Permanent Core Disciple” is the highest documented designation 59 104.
- Huo Yuhao was initially made a One-Year Core Disciple because the academy judged his Spirit Eye martial soul, initial Rank 11 soul power, background, and perceived potential unfavorably; Wang Dong and Xiao Xiao received permanent status 59.
- Lan San and Lan Wu were directly granted permanent core disciple status, the highest honors, and the academy’s best resources after the Sea God Pavilion linked their martial souls to the academy’s ancestor 104.
Shrek Inspectorate
The Shrek Inspectorate publicly performs justice-oriented missions. Dai Tu condemns it for risking students’ lives, while Xuan Zi internally acknowledges that it loses students during its missions; Huo Yuhao has also heard rumors of a high annual casualty rate 58 59.
Training and educational approach
Shrek presents its system as rigorous, systematic training centered on practical combat, team coordination, physical conditioning, and soul-skill application 65.
Huo Yuhao’s outer-court routine includes running twenty laps around Sea God Lake at dawn, theoretical classes in the morning, sparring or physical training in the afternoon, and free cultivation or library study in the evening 59.
Dai Tu rejects the academy’s approach, characterizing it as training geniuses to run, cooperate, and follow “high-sounding platitudes” rather than survive genuine life-and-death struggles 8. Huo Yuhao later agrees that the academy provided him no individual guidance, cultivation techniques, medicinal resources, Soul Tools, or meaningful core-disciple support during his first three months 59.
Notable members and students
- Beibei — Student who first attempts to recruit Dai Tu into Shrek Academy; later confronts him over Huo Yuhao’s departure 8 66.
- Tang Ya — Shrek student who accompanies Beibei during his attempt to recruit Dai Tu 8.
- Dai Yueheng — Elite student and member of Shrek’s tournament lineup; he seeks a sixth soul ring in the Star Dou Great Forest before Di Tian leaves him crippled 24 27 32.
- Ma Xiaotao — Inner-court senior sister, Fire Phoenix martial soul master, Rank 63 Soul Emperor, and Shrek’s intended tournament captain before Lan San challenges for the position 133.
- Xu Sanshi — Top student under fifteen who joins Beibei in defending Shrek’s honor against Dai Tu 65 67.
- Huo Yuhao — Former student and One-Year Core Disciple who leaves for the Body Sect, stating that Shrek does not value him 63 69.
- Wang Dong — Former core disciple who leaves alongside Huo Yuhao and Dai Tu 58 69.
- Lan San — Tang San’s identity within the academy; a thirteen-year-old Rank 39 twin martial soul master granted permanent core disciple status 103 104.
- Lan Wu — Xiao Wu’s identity within the academy; a thirteen-year-old Rank 39 Soft Bone Rabbit martial soul master and permanent core disciple 103 104.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Dai Tu’s rejection
Beibei and Tang Ya encounter Dai Tu after his spirit-ring hunt and invite the unaffiliated youth to enroll. Dai Tu refuses immediately, dismissing Shrek as a “greenhouse” and a “running academy” whose methods cannot create true powerhouses 8.
Star Dou Great Forest incident
Xuan Zi leads seven Shrek elites, including Dai Yueheng and Ma Xiaotao, into the Star Dou Great Forest while preparing for the Continental Advanced Soul Master Elite Tournament 23 24. After Long Aotian disrupts the group’s hunt for a thirty-thousand-year Nether Leopard, Dai Yueheng pursues him into Dai Tu’s trap 27.
The incident escalates into a confrontation with Di Tian. Xuan Zi’s group is overwhelmed, and Dai Yueheng is subsequently left crippled after losing an arm and a leg 32 58.
Departure of Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong
Dai Tu infiltrates Shrek Academy through Kamui: Intangibility to reach Huo Yuhao 45 46. After Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong decide to leave for the Body Sect, Xuan Zi blocks their path, attacks Dai Tu, and attempts to stop their departure 58 60.
Du Busi arrives in defense of his disciples and defeats Xuan Zi in a battle that damages the area around Shrek City and forces the academy’s Titled Douluo to erect protective barriers 61 62. Mu En ends the conflict and brings both sides to the Sea God Pavilion for negotiations 62.
Challenge to Shrek’s younger generation
Dai Tu challenges every Shrek student under twenty, offering to let Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong remain—and surrendering a thirty-thousand-year soul bone—if he loses. If he wins, the two would be permitted to leave with the Body Sect 64.
Mu En limits the trial to opponents under fifteen. Beibei and Xu Sanshi answer the challenge, but Dai Tu defeats them; Mu En accepts the result and allows Dai Tu, Huo Yuhao, and Wang Dong to leave 65 69.
Arrival of Lan San and Lan Wu
Tang San and Xiao Wu enter Shrek Academy under the identities of Lan San and Lan Wu to investigate Huo Yuhao, Wang Dong, and the events surrounding Dai Tu 102. Their Rank 39 cultivation and martial souls cause the Sea God Pavilion to suspect a connection to the academy’s ancestor, leading to their immediate elevation as permanent core disciples 103 104.
Later, Lan San requests a place on Shrek’s Elite Continental Soul Master Tournament team and declares his intention to become captain, prompting Mu En to order Ma Xiaotao to test him 133.
