Ch. 201The Water Elemental Duke Hydraxis

Summary

Shawn travels with Chromie to Azshara, a shattered remnant of the Night Elf capital Zin-Azshari, destroyed during the War of the Ancients. The region is dangerous and difficult to reach: reefs make its waters nearly unnavigable, and Naga, Sea Giants, and other creatures inhabit the ruins. Shawn is not interested in searching for Azuregos; he already knows that a Megalodon swallowed the blue fragment of the Scepter of the Shifting Sands. Since the predator stays in deep water, he needs help bringing it to the surface.
Shawn seeks the Hydraxian Waterlords, powerful water elementals who rule the local waters. He and Chromie search from the air until they find their island, where thousands of water elementals gather. Shawn identifies their leader, Duke Hydraxis, whose power far exceeds what his Eye of Insight can measure. After landing, Shawn presents a letter from Jaina and explains his request.
Hydraxis is pleased by Jaina’s letter and says finding the Megalodon would be easy, but he expects compensation for helping Shawn rather than Jaina herself. He acknowledges Shawn’s modest mana but notes Jaina’s praise, as well as Shawn’s connections to Aegwynn and the Bronze Dragon Anachronos. Hydraxis offers a bargain: when Shawn is capable, he must help destroy the fire elementals in Blackrock Mountain, the water elementals’ natural enemies.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shawn acts cautiously and pragmatically, seeking assistance rather than attempting to fight the Megalodon alone. He accepts Hydraxis’s terms as fair.
  • Duke Hydraxis is revealed as wise, powerful, and willing to help—but only through an exchange. His trust in Shawn rests partly on Jaina’s recommendation and Shawn’s notable allies.
  • Chromie serves as Shawn’s fast-flying guide, though her unreliable memory means they must locate the island by searching.
  • Jaina, though absent, shapes the encounter: her close relationship with Hydraxis secures Shawn an audience and lends weight to her recommendation.
  • Shawn and Hydraxis establish a practical agreement, with future cooperation dependent on Shawn becoming strong enough to face the fire elementals.

Significant themes

  • Reciprocity and obligation: Help is treated as a fair exchange, not a free gift.
  • Reputation and trust: Jaina’s endorsement and Shawn’s associations help him earn consideration despite his limited power.
  • Azeroth’s ancient scars: Azshara’s ruined landscape reflects the lasting consequences of the Sundering and the War of the Ancients.
  • Natural rivalries: The conflict between water and fire elementals motivates Hydraxis’s request.

Ch. 202The Blue Scepter Shard, Secured!

Plot points and events

  • Shawn agrees to help Duke Hydraxis fight the fire elementals in Molten Core, potentially alongside an Alliance–Horde campaign against the Black Dragonflight in Blackrock Mountain.
  • In exchange for the Hydraxian Waterlords’ support, Shawn offers to help them assault Molten Core. Hydraxis approves and says Jaina can summon the Waterlords to Blackrock Mountain.
  • The Waterlords kill the sea overlord Megalodon, and Shawn retrieves the Blue Scepter Shard from his body—bringing him a quarter of the way toward obtaining the Qiraji battle mounts and production line.
  • Shawn leaves Azshara and checks the Emerald Dream portals in Ashenvale and Feralas for Nightmare Green Dragons. Ashenvale’s portal is clear, but Ysondre is near the Feralas portal.
  • Taerar explains that Ysondre is more powerful than he was and can summon corrupted Druid souls. Shawn realizes he cannot simply attack her without risking the Druids, so he decides to seek help at Feathermoon Stronghold.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shawn demonstrates ambition and diplomacy: he negotiates cooperation between the Hydraxian Waterlords and the Alliance and Horde, then secures the shard. He also recognizes the limits of his ability and chooses to seek help rather than confront Ysondre unprepared.
  • Duke Hydraxis respects Shawn’s plans and agrees to the alliance, while remaining firm in his Waterlords’ beliefs—he rejects Shawn’s arcane blessing in favor of elemental power.
  • Taerar provides crucial insight into Ysondre’s abilities and the danger to the corrupted Druid souls.
  • Chromie carries Shawn between locations as he investigates the portals.

Significant themes

  • Cooperation for mutual benefit: Shawn and Hydraxis join forces because their goals overlap.
  • Power and responsibility: Shawn must weigh defeating Ysondre against the lives of the Druids she controls.
  • Prudence and preparation: Rather than take a risky fight alone, Shawn seeks someone better equipped to help.

Ch. 203Seeing Shandris Feathermoon Again

Summary

Shawn reunites with Shandris Feathermoon, who welcomes him warmly and already knows that he has come to deal with Ysondre, a Nightmare-corrupted Green Dragon. Shandris initially assumes the dragon will be manageable, but Chromie warns that Ysondre is far stronger than before and beyond her own ability to defeat. Taking the threat seriously, Shandris decides to accompany Shawn alone, since ordinary Sentinels would be little help.
On the way to the Elven Great Tree, Shandris asks about the Scythe of Elune. Shawn lends it to her, and she awakens its powerful moonlight magic. She explains that the scythe is significant to Moon Goddess priests as well as Druids: its shaft came from the Staff of Elune, once owned by a High Priestess. Shawn even offers to let Shandris keep it if it would strengthen her, but she refuses, saying it suits him better.
Shandris senses a shard of nightmare power inside the scythe. Shawn explains that it came from Taerar, whom the weapon once purified, and that collecting Nightmare Shards is part of a plan to summon and purify the fallen Dream Guardian Eranikus. Eranikus possesses a shard of the Scepter of the Shifting Sands. Shandris agrees to help Tyrande confront him when the time comes, recognizing that the Legendary dragon will be a formidable opponent.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shawn shows trust and affection toward Shandris, calling her “Aunt” and offering her his prized weapon. His priority is securing her support and ultimately obtaining Eranikus’s scepter shard.
  • Shandris responds with warmth but also demonstrates her strength and responsibility: she takes the Ysondre threat seriously and volunteers to help with the later mission against Eranikus.
  • Chromie provides crucial information about Ysondre’s increased power. Her hazy recognition of Shandris hints at their long history and Chromie’s imperfect memory.
  • Shawn and Shandris share a trusting bond; Shandris declines his generous offer to keep the scythe, while Shawn is delighted by her pledge to help Tyrande.

Significant themes

The chapter emphasizes loyalty and mutual support, as Shawn seeks help from someone he deeply trusts and Shandris commits to protecting others. It also highlights the danger of corruption, which has transformed Ysondre into a far greater threat, and the redemptive potential of sacred power, as the Scythe of Elune’s moonlight may help purify corrupted beings.

Ch. 204The Second Nightmare Green Dragon

Key plot points and events

  • Shandris and Chromie set a trap to draw the Nightmare Green Dragon Ysondre away from the passage to the Emerald Dream. If Ysondre reaches it, she can escape; once she is far enough away, Chromie will immobilize her and Shandris will try to purify her.
  • Chromie and Shandris hide nearby while Shawn rides toward Ysondre on an Amani War Bear.
  • Confident in her strength and unimpressed by the danger, Ysondre dismisses Shawn as an easy target. She attacks, but Shawn’s Frostbolt manages to sting her, provoking her.
  • Shawn tries to restrain Ysondre with a vine. His own weak spell fails, but Taerar—bound within Shawn’s Soulbinding Staff—summons stronger vines that trip the dragon and give Shawn time to flee.
  • Enraged, Ysondre takes to the air and dives to seize Shawn. As she closes in, two objects whistle through the air, leaving the outcome unresolved at the chapter’s end.

Character developments

  • Shawn shows quick thinking and courage, using himself as bait and combining his magic with Taerar’s power to delay a far stronger enemy.
  • Ysondre is revealed as arrogant and overconfident. She has ignored Eranikus’s warning, underestimated Shawn, and becomes reckless when her pride is wounded.
  • Taerar acts as a cooperative ally, lending his nature magic through the staff.
  • Shandris and Chromie remain concealed and coordinated, following their roles in the plan.

Significant themes

  • Arrogance and underestimation: Ysondre’s contempt for Shawn turns a controlled pursuit into a more dangerous confrontation.
  • Cooperation across unequal power: Shawn’s limited abilities become useful when supported by Taerar and the broader team’s plan.
  • Corruption of nature: The Emerald Nightmare spreads like a disease, rotting ancient trees and threatening to turn them into nightmare creatures.
  • Strategy over strength: The team relies on bait, positioning, and timing rather than trying to overpower Ysondre directly.

Character interactions

  • Shandris gives Chromie and Shawn precise roles, and both accept the plan.
  • Ysondre treats Shawn as a plaything; his spell and Taerar’s vines challenge her assumptions and enrage her.
  • Shawn calls on Taerar, whose response enables Shawn to escape the dragon’s immediate reach.
  • Chromie and Shandris wait in hiding to intervene, while Ysondre pursues Shawn away from the Emerald Dream passage.

Ch. 205Purifying Ysondre

Key plot points and events

  • Shandris Feathermoon ambushes corrupted Ysondre, striking her wings with arrows. Ysondre tries to escape and retaliate, but Chromie’s time magic immobilizes her.
  • Shandris invokes Elune’s power. Because Ysondre has been corrupted by the Emerald Nightmare, the moonlight—once harmless to her—now purifies the rot and nightmare energy sustaining her body.
  • Shawn observes that Ysondre may recover rather than die, since her Green Dragon vitality can restore her once the corruption is removed. He releases Taerar’s soul to help.
  • As Ysondre struggles against the purification, Taerar pleads with her to awaken and return to her duties. Seeing that he has been freed from corruption, Ysondre gradually stops resisting.
  • Taerar uses nature magic to heal her, while Elune’s power continues purifying her and Shawn prepares the Soulbinding Staff to assist.

Character developments and interactions

  • Ysondre shifts from confidence and anger to fear when she realizes she has been ambushed, then gradually yields to purification. Taerar’s presence and appeal help her recognize that escape from the Nightmare is possible.
  • Shandris is shown as both an elite archer and a powerful Priestess of Elune; her prayer channels force strong enough to reach Ysondre’s soul.
  • Taerar shows compassion for his former companion, despite their complicated past: he loved Ysondre, who had favored Eranikus, and now he tries to save her.
  • Shawn and Chromie contribute to the operation: Chromie restrains Ysondre with time magic, while Shawn releases Taerar and prepares further aid.

Significant themes

  • Redemption and restoration: Ysondre’s corruption may be reversible, and Taerar’s recovery gives her hope.
  • Duty and the natural order: Taerar reminds Ysondre of her responsibility to Ysera, the Emerald Dream, and the world.
  • Mercy over exploitation: Shawn considers the value of the dragons’ souls but rejects harming them merely to improve a weapon.
  • Former bonds and compassion: Taerar’s care for Ysondre persists despite past unrequited love and their fall into corruption.

Ch. 206All the Nightmare Green Dragons Purified

Plot points and events

  • Shandris uses the Scythe of Elune to draw on the Moon Goddess’s power and successfully purifies Ysondre, though the effort leaves her exhausted. The Scythe absorbs the Nightmare corruption.
  • Ysondre decides not to return to the Emerald Dream, which is now deeply corrupted and dangerous. Shawn tells her the Qiraji are nearing their return and that the group needs to reforge the Scepter of the Shifting Sands, requiring Eranikus’s fragment.
  • Ysondre agrees to help purify the remaining Nightmare Green Dragons. She explains that the dragons oversee separate Emerald Dream passages and warns that Emeriss and Lethon may hide if they learn she has been restored.
  • The group goes first to Ashenvale. Emeriss is too corrupted for her body to be saved, and the group kills her; her freed soul is bound into Shawn’s staff.
  • They then travel to the Hinterlands, where Olivia has secured aid from at least a hundred Wildhammer Gryphon Riders. Together with Shandris, Chromie, Ysondre, Shawn, and the spirits of Taerar and Emeriss, they fight Lethon.
  • Lethon proves formidable, using dark magic and draining soul illusions to heal himself. When he draws out Shawn’s soul illusion, he suffers a backlash, giving the others the chance to purify him. His corrupted body cannot be saved, but his soul is freed and bound into the staff.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shandris demonstrates the cost and limits of her power, relying on the Scythe to purify Ysondre and later leading the fights against Emeriss and Lethon.
  • Ysondre returns to her former self, expresses gratitude to Taerar and her rescuers, and commits to helping them despite the danger of confronting her former allies.
  • Shawn connects the dragon crisis to the looming Qiraji threat and coordinates the group’s next steps. His soul illusion unexpectedly helps turn the tide against Lethon.
  • Taerar welcomes Ysondre’s return and redirects her thanks toward those who actually purified her.
  • Olivia contributes by securing Wildhammer support, while the Gryphon Riders provide crucial help against Lethon.
  • The group repeatedly combines different kinds of strength—Moon Goddess magic, dragon allies, Shawn’s support, and mortal forces—to face increasingly powerful foes.

Significant themes

  • Redemption and recovery: Ysondre is restored, and even the souls of dragons whose bodies cannot be saved are released from corruption.
  • The cost of corruption: Emeriss and Lethon are too deeply corrupted to survive purification physically.
  • Cooperation against greater threats: The fight against the Nightmare dragons also prepares the group for the Qiraji’s return, making alliances essential.
  • Urgency and risk: The group must act quickly before remaining dragons retreat into the Emerald Dream and become harder to reach.

Ch. 207Moonglade

Key plot points and events

  • Shawn reflects on the Soulbinding Staff, which now holds the souls of three of the Nightmare Four Green Dragons. Though he had hoped to preserve the living dragons, their deaths have made the staff powerful enough to summon their souls in battle.
  • Shawn, Shandris, and Ysondre discuss how to stop the Emerald Nightmare from spreading into Azeroth. Ysondre explains that the portals are tied to Elven Great Trees and cannot be permanently eliminated, but they can be sealed.
  • Shawn releases Taerar and the other dragon souls. With Ysondre’s guidance, they seal the nearby portal, though the effort weakens the dragon spirits and exhausts Ysondre.
  • Ysondre warns that three more portals—in Ashenvale, Feralas, and Duskwood—need urgent attention. The Northrend portal can wait because the cold, sparsely vegetated region slows the nightmare’s spread.
  • Shawn’s immediate priority is Moonglade: he plans to give Guardian Remulos the Scythe of Elune, which has absorbed enough nightmare fragments, so Remulos can summon Eranikus for purification. Shandris agrees, and the group travels there on Chromie.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shawn recognizes the grim irony that the staff has gained power through the deaths he wanted to prevent. He briefly entertains the thought of Ysondre dying too, then rejects it.
  • Ysondre provides practical knowledge about the portals and leads the sealing effort, but the cost leaves her too drained to fly in dragon form.
  • Shandris admits she lacks knowledge of the Emerald Dream, but supports Shawn’s plan and urges them to leave without delay.
  • Shawn relies on the others’ expertise and cooperation: Ysondre explains and directs the sealing, while Chromie carries the weakened Ysondre and the others to Moonglade.

Significant themes

  • Unintended consequences: Shawn’s attempt to protect the dragons contrasts with the staff’s unexpected power gained from their deaths.
  • Sacrifice and duty: Sealing the portal takes a serious toll on the dragon souls and Ysondre, but is necessary to protect Azeroth.
  • Nature, corruption, and preservation: The Emerald Nightmare threatens the natural world, while Moonglade stands as a haven of purity and peace.
  • Cooperation in crisis: Containing the nightmare requires the combined knowledge and strength of dragons, druids, and Shawn’s allies.

Ch. 208Guardian Remulos

Key plot points

  • Broll Bearmantle returns to Moonglade after reporting the Scythe of Elune’s recovery. Tyrande approves of his and Shawn’s actions, while Fandral Staghelm argues the artifact should have been entrusted to someone more worthy—likely himself. Tyrande gives no decision.
  • Guardian Remulos warns Broll that the Emerald Nightmare has corrupted many druids, and even Malfurion cannot be awakened. An assassin’s attack has left Malfurion trapped in the Dream. Remulos urges Broll not to enter it and asks him to help prepare against the Nightmare.
  • The Lynx Princess arrives carrying news that Dream Guardian Eranikus has fallen and holds the green shard of the Scepter of the Shifting Sands. Remulos believes her account and wonders how Shawn knew what was required to summon Eranikus.
  • After hearing about Shawn’s connections to influential figures, Remulos decides to wait for him. The Lynx Princess remains in Moonglade as Shawn instructed; the calm of Remulos’s temple helps her recover, and her level rises to 10.
  • More than ten days later, Shawn and his companions arrive. Remulos greets them at his temple.

Character developments and interactions

  • Broll has grown confident in his standing as an Archdruid and no longer welcomes Fandral’s instruction, though he bears no resentment toward him. He prefers Moonglade and Remulos’s guidance.
  • Remulos is presented as a powerful, discerning, and compassionate guardian. He verifies the Lynx Princess’s story, recognizes Shawn’s unusual significance, and offers the princess a calming place to recover.
  • The Lynx Princess moves from restless uncertainty toward greater calm and strength while staying with Remulos.
  • Shawn is absent for most of the chapter, but his reputation and instructions shape events: the Lynx Princess follows his advice, and Remulos is intrigued by his knowledge and connections.
  • Shandris Feathermoon knows Remulos from earlier encounters and shares the Night Elves’ respect for him.

Significant themes

  • Duty and caution: Remulos prioritizes the fight against the Nightmare and warns Broll against risking entrapment in the Emerald Dream.
  • Power, authority, and trust: Fandral’s claim to the Scythe raises questions about who is fit to wield consequential artifacts, while Tyrande’s silence leaves the matter unresolved.
  • Healing and sanctuary: Moonglade and Remulos’s temple offer both druids and the Lynx Princess a place of restoration amid widespread corruption.
  • Reputation and hidden influence: Remulos’s response to Shawn shows how connections to legendary figures can shape perceptions, even before Shawn arrives.

Ch. 209The Lynx Princess's fantasies

Key plot points

  • Shandris reports to Guardian Remulos, who already knows why she has come. He welcomes Chromie and expresses sorrow that Ysondre and the other Green Dragons were corrupted by the Emerald Nightmare.
  • Ysondre explains that Shandris cleansed her, Taerar, Emeriss, and Lethon, but the three male dragons’ bodies had already been lost; only their souls survived.
  • Remulos asks Shawn to show him the Scythe of Elune. After inspecting it, he lets Shawn keep it for now, saying Tyrande will make the final decision and that he will recommend leaving the artifact with him.
  • Shawn releases the three dragons’ souls from his Soulbinding Staff. Remulos is intrigued by the staff’s unusual fighting-stick form, which he associates with Pandaren monks.
  • Remulos invites the group into the temple, where Shawn encounters Broll and Yue, the Lynx Princess.

Character developments and interactions

  • Remulos treats Ysondre as an equal and shows compassion for the fallen dragons. He also recognizes Shawn’s ability and worth as a Druid of the Scythe, offering to advocate for him.
  • Shawn remains respectful and modest despite his unusual connection to the Scythe. He hopes to visit Pandaria and other regions someday, but postpones those plans until after the coming conflicts.
  • Ysondre is humble before Remulos and credits Shandris with cleansing her and her companions.
  • Yue relaxes in Moonglade, where its natural magic slowly weakens her seal and restores her strength. She imagines that, once fully restored, she will seduce Shawn to spite his apparent indifference. Misreading his reserve as a noble’s “playing hard to get,” she decides to ignore him until he pursues her.

Significant themes

  • Healing and loss: The Nightmare’s corruption can be cleansed, but not all its victims’ bodies can be saved.
  • Worthiness and stewardship: Remulos favors keeping the Scythe with someone who can truly control it, while leaving the final decision to Tyrande.
  • Cultural curiosity and future hopes: Shawn’s distinctive staff reflects his interest in Pandaren martial arts and his wish to explore Azeroth.
  • Comic misinterpretation: Yue’s romantic scheme rests on a mistaken reading of Shawn’s behavior, contrasting her grand confidence with her vulnerability and confinement.

Ch. 210Goofy Master, Goofy Cat

Plot points and events

  • Shawn returns to the Temple of Remulos and finds the Lynx Princess asleep, despite the temple’s sacred status.
  • Annoyed, he kicks her awake. Reacting on instinct, she scratches his face before recognizing him.
  • Humiliated and furious in front of the others, Shawn binds her with a vine and beats her, blaming her for everything from injuring his face to being nameless and “ugly.”
  • The Lynx Princess is tough enough that the beating causes little harm, though she feels deeply aggrieved. Broll intervenes, reminding Shawn that they have matters to discuss.
  • Shawn releases her. She immediately flees, and the group settles down to talk.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shawn’s pride and vanity are exposed: he takes the accidental scratch as a public insult and lashes out, then regains his composure when Broll calls him back to the discussion.
  • The Lynx Princess is shown to be quick, formidable, and capable of acting on instinct, but also frightened of Shawn’s anger. Her inner protests make clear that she considers his accusations unfair.
  • Broll acts as a calm mediator, preventing the quarrel from continuing.
  • The confrontation takes place before Chromie, Shandris, Broll, Ysondre, and Remulos, intensifying Shawn’s embarrassment.

Significant themes

  • Pride and humiliation: Shawn’s reaction is driven less by injury than by wounded vanity and fear of losing face.
  • Power and control: Shawn uses the contract and magic to restrain his pet, while the Lynx Princess’s strength and independence remain evident.
  • Comic unfairness: The gap between Shawn’s petty accusations and the Lynx Princess’s reasonable grievances gives the scene its humor.

Ch. 211The source of the Nightmare

  • The Nightmare’s history: Guardian Remulos reveals that the Emerald Nightmare first appeared over ten thousand years ago, remaining hidden until it had grown too powerful to contain. Its source is unknown, and many Druids—including Malfurion—are trapped in the Dream; Ysera is missing.
  • Searching for a culprit: Remulos urges the group to rely on their own unity rather than waiting for Malfurion or Ysera. Shawn suggests investigating the Emerald Dream’s and the Night Elves’ enemies. The group considers the Old Gods and the Burning Legion, but Shawn argues that the Nightmare’s gradual spread suggests its immediate source may be less powerful than those great threats.
  • A possible lead: Shawn prompts the group to consider surviving enemies of the Night Elf Druids. Shandris identifies Queen Azshara and her naga, then recounts the War of the Ancients and the role of Azshara’s adviser, Xavius. Xavius helped open a portal to summon Sargeras, later became the first satyr, and fought Malfurion. After Xavius abducted Tyrande, Malfurion caused an oak tree to grow inside him, apparently consuming him—but Xavius had vowed revenge before his death.
  • Character interactions and development: Remulos corrects Broll’s despair, emphasizing collective strength. Shawn repeatedly guides the discussion with pointed questions, while Shandris supplies the group’s historical knowledge. Remulos’s sorrow over the deaths of Wild Gods reveals his personal connection to the ancient war: he is Cenarius’s son and Malorne’s grandson.
  • Themes: The chapter highlights unity in the face of uncertainty, the value of questioning accepted assumptions, and the long shadow of ancient conflicts. Its ending raises a key mystery: whether Xavius truly died—and whether his threat of revenge connects him to the Nightmare.

Ch. 212Fandral Staghelm

Key plot points and events

  • The group debates whether Xavius survived his ancient defeat. Shandris explains that Malfurion had once monitored him, but Xavius and the oak containing him vanished beneath the sea after the Well of Eternity’s destruction.
  • Shawn proposes that Xavius may have been corrupted by the Old Gods and used the powerful oak’s connection to the Emerald Dream to introduce the Nightmare.
  • He argues that Xavius’s recent, rapid expansion of the Nightmare suggests he has gained both a new method and an accomplice—likely a high-ranking druid, perhaps an Archdruid within the Cenarion Circle.
  • Shawn further suspects a World Tree has been corrupted. He directs the group to consider the newest World Tree and who championed its planting.
  • Broll identifies Teldrassil, planted at Fandral Staghelm’s urging three years earlier. He also recalls that Fandral persuaded Malfurion to investigate the Nightmare, after which Malfurion fell into a deep slumber in the Emerald Dream.
  • The chapter ends with Broll revealing that Fandral changed after his son died in the War of the Shifting Sands: he became withdrawn, volatile, and emotionally distant.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shawn carefully guides the discussion toward Fandral, presenting unverified deductions as a plausible explanation. He knows more than he admits, and Shandris recognizes his deliberate steering.
  • Shandris is wary of Shawn’s manipulation but prioritizes the danger to the Night Elves and the Emerald Dream, pressing him to explain his theory.
  • Broll connects Shawn’s clues to Fandral and begins to accept that his former leader may be involved, despite the devastating implications.
  • Remulos stresses that Fandral’s possible corruption would threaten the druids, the Night Elves, the Emerald Dream, and the world.
  • Fandral, though absent, emerges as a powerful and potentially compromised figure whose grief may have altered him.

Significant themes

  • Corruption and hidden influence: The Nightmare may have infiltrated the Emerald Dream through a concealed agent inside the druids’ leadership.
  • Grief and transformation: Fandral’s son’s death may have left him vulnerable to change or corruption.
  • Suspicion versus proof: Shawn’s reasoning is speculative and flawed, yet its explanatory power makes the group take it seriously.
  • Duty over trust: Shandris sets aside her personal reservations about Shawn because the stakes affect the entire Night Elf people.

Ch. 213Grandma Tyrande Arrives

Key plot points and events

  • Broll explains that Fandral Staghelm planted Teldrassil despite Malfurion’s opposition. Malfurion had warned that a World Tree without the Dragon Aspects’ blessings could be useless or dangerous.
  • Remulos orders Broll to investigate Fandral and Teldrassil secretly, without alerting either Fandral or the Cenarion Circle.
  • Tyrande arrives in Moonglade with twenty Moon Priestesses and support from Nighthaven’s druids and dryads to help confront the corrupted Eranikus.
  • Remulos introduces the available allies: Broll, the bronze dragon Chromie, and four green dragons—Ysondre, plus the spirits of Taerar, Emeriss, and Lethon.
  • Tyrande learns that Shawn’s Scythe of Elune helped cleanse three green dragons, while the Scythe and his Feathermoon Amulet together cleansed Taerar.

Character developments and interactions

  • Broll accepts the secret investigation, recognizing that the situation could become serious.
  • Tyrande and Shandris share a warm reunion. Shandris, Tyrande’s adopted daughter and trusted Sentinel General, greets her with deep affection and respect.
  • Tyrande and Ysondre acknowledge the loss of the three dragons’ bodies as a major blow to the Green Dragonflight. Ysondre remains hopeful because green dragons can live in the Emerald Dream.
  • Shandris introduces Shawn as her nephew and family. Shawn respectfully calls Tyrande “Grandma,” which pleases her. Tyrande praises his rapid progress as both a mage and a druid, especially his ability to control the Scythe of the corrupted Druids of the Scythe; Shawn responds modestly.
  • Tyrande also recognizes Chromie, though bronze dragons are rare and mysterious to her.

Significant themes

  • Duty and secrecy: Broll must investigate a potentially dangerous matter without allowing it to spread.
  • Leadership and cooperation: Druids, priestesses, dryads, dragons, and a bronze dragon gather to face Eranikus.
  • Family and belonging: Shandris’s bond with Tyrande and Shawn’s connection to the Feathermoon family are emphasized.
  • Loss and resilience: The Green Dragonflight has suffered greatly, but Ysondre’s faith in life within the Emerald Dream offers hope.
  • Power tempered by control: Shawn’s achievement lies not merely in gaining power, but in resisting the savage influence associated with his druidic path.

Ch. 214Who would wield the Scythe of Elune

  • The Scythe’s keeper: Guardian Remulos explains that the Scythe of Elune has gathered enough Nightmare Shards to help him summon Eranikus to Lake Elune’ara. Tyrande and her priestesses must be ready to purify the dragon as soon as he appears. Remulos argues that Shawn should keep the Scythe: Shawn is a Druid of the Scythe, and the Feathermoon Amulet lets him wield the artifact effectively.
  • Tyrande’s decision: Tyrande initially hesitates to entrust such a powerful artifact to someone so new to druidism. Shandris praises Shawn’s crucial role in purifying the Green Dragons and collecting the shards. Broll adds that Shawn redeemed many Worgen, who trust him, and could help keep them from becoming a threat. Tyrande reveals she had considered giving the Scythe to Broll, but Broll declines, saying Shawn is more suited—and unusually talented. Tyrande agrees that Shawn will keep the Scythe after Eranikus is purified.
  • Preparing for Eranikus: Tyrande’s priestesses pray to Elune for the power to purify him, while Druids and Dryads prepare for possible Nightmare creatures. Moonglade is vulnerable: the Nightmare’s forces could attack Stormrage Barrow and destroy the sleeping Druids’ bodies, trapping their souls in the Emerald Nightmare. Summoning Eranikus deliberately is therefore safer than waiting for a surprise assault.
  • Shawn’s priorities: Relieved that the Scythe will remain his, Shawn recognizes he would be nearly useless against a Legendary Dragon. With his magical tower’s power still depleted, he plans to avoid the fight, grow stronger, and gather the crystals—especially void crystals—needed to expand the tower.
Character developments and interactions: Remulos, Shandris, and Broll openly support Shawn, demonstrating his growing influence and the trust he has earned. Tyrande’s respect for him increases as she hears their endorsements. Broll’s refusal of the artifact emphasizes his humility and confidence in Shawn. Shawn, meanwhile, remains ambitious but cautious, valuing the Scythe while knowing the limits of his current power.
Themes: Trust and earned responsibility; preparation over surprise; the dangers posed by the Nightmare; and the need to balance ambition with realistic awareness of one’s strength.

Ch. 215Summoning Eranikus!

Key plot points and events

  • Shawn plans to strengthen himself and build a larger power base. For magical resources, he considers seeking crystals from the Draenei, Shen’dralar, and Qiraji, while avoiding Blood Elf territory because of Alliance–Horde tensions. He also hopes to recruit the Draenei and Pandaren, bring Gilneas’s Worgen under his command, and support other weaker races.
  • Remulos begins a ritual near Lake Elune to summon Eranikus from the Emerald Dream. The lake’s arcane energy and the Moon Goddess’s power, along with the Scythe of Elune and collected Nightmare Shards, make the difficult passage possible.
  • Shawn retreats to the Shrine of Remulos, where he can watch safely from a distance.
  • Eranikus emerges with corrupted Druid souls and Satyrs in tow. Tyrande and the Moon Priestesses begin the Prayer of the Moon Goddess, bathing the dragon and his followers in moonlight to purify them.

Character developments

  • Shawn shows himself to be a cautious strategist, balancing plans for personal power with ambitions to gather allies. He avoids the summoning site because he expects the assembled legendary heroes to handle Eranikus.
  • Tyrande takes command of the purification effort, while Shandris and the other priestesses support her with their combined sacred power.
  • Eranikus arrives not alone but with a following of corrupted beings, making the confrontation more than a simple attempt to cleanse one dragon.

Significant themes

  • Power and its costs: Crossing between worlds and summoning powerful beings requires enormous resources and exceptional circumstances.
  • Purification versus corruption: The ritual seeks to reclaim Eranikus and the lost Druid souls from Nightmare influence, while Satyrs represent entrenched evil.
  • Strategy and alliance-building: Shawn’s ambitions depend not only on his own strength but also on recruiting peoples and securing magical resources.

Character interactions

  • Shawn observes from a protected distance rather than joining the ritual.
  • Remulos and Tyrande cooperate to summon Eranikus, with Druids and Moon Priestesses assisting.
  • Tyrande directly appeals to Eranikus to return to their side, while the priestesses—including Shandris—join her prayer to cleanse him and his followers.

Ch. 216The death of Ysondre

Key plot points

  • At Moon Goddess Lake, Remulos, Chromie, Broll, Ysondre, and their allies contain Eranikus while pursuing satyrs and fallen druid souls. Their goal is to purify Eranikus and the corrupted spirits.
  • As Remulos’s temporary passage to the Emerald Dream is about to close, Xavius appears: now the Lord of the Nightmare, he uses the power of a vast, corrupted oak to force the passage open and threaten entry into Azeroth.
  • Remulos warns that Xavius’s power rivals or exceeds that of legendary beings. Tyrande recognizes the danger: if he reaches Moonglade, he could destroy the sleeping druids’ bodies and plunge the world into nightmare.
  • Tyrande orders the gathered fighters to attack Xavius while Remulos closes the passage. She stays behind with Shandris and the priestesses to keep Eranikus contained.
  • Ysondre confronts Xavius first, but he seizes her with a gigantic shadow hand and crushes her to death. The others attack him in an attempt to save her, but he withstands their blows.

Character developments and interactions

  • Tyrande shifts from overseeing Eranikus’s purification to directing the defense against Xavius, balancing the immediate threat with the need to keep Eranikus from breaking free.
  • Remulos is revealed to have underestimated Xavius’s strength and must race to close the passage.
  • Ysondre shows fearless loyalty by placing herself between Xavius and the passage; her sacrifice ends in her death.
  • Chromie, Broll, Taerar, Lethon, and Emeriss respond urgently to Ysondre’s peril, joining the attack.
  • Tyrande and Remulos coordinate the group’s efforts: the fighters buy time while Remulos tries to seal the gateway.

Significant themes

  • Sacrifice and courage: Ysondre knowingly faces an overwhelming enemy to protect others.
  • The danger of unchecked corruption: Xavius’s nightmare power threatens not just the gathered forces but the fate of the entire world.
  • Unity under pressure: Success depends on the group dividing its efforts between containing Eranikus, attacking Xavius, and closing the passage.
  • Hope threatened by sudden catastrophe: A seemingly controlled victory at Moon Goddess Lake is overturned by Xavius’s arrival and Ysondre’s death.

Ch. 217The birth of the first dragon druid

Key plot points and events

  • After Xavius kills Ysondre, her soul urges Taerar, Emeriss, and Lethon to bind themselves permanently to Shawn’s Soulbinding Staff. Their combined souls could transform him into a powerful green dragon capable of fighting Xavius.
  • The dragons hesitate because binding would cost them their freedom, but Ysondre reminds them of their duty to protect the Emerald Dream and Azeroth and to atone for their past corruption. Taerar, Emeriss, and Lethon agree.
  • Without asking Shawn’s permission, the four dragons enter the staff. Shawn learns what they intend and accepts their souls, knowing the battle is desperate.
  • Drawing on the staff’s power, the dragons merge with Shawn and transform him into a formidable adult green dragon. He willingly yields control so they can fight effectively, and the new dragon flies to join the battle.

Character developments and interactions

  • Ysondre shifts from grief to determined leadership, persuading the others to sacrifice their freedom for their duty.
  • Taerar, Emeriss, and Lethon overcome their hesitation and choose responsibility over personal liberty.
  • Shawn moves from fearing Xavius and considering escape to accepting a dangerous transformation and offering the dragons control of his body.
  • The dragons act collectively, but their decision bypasses Shawn’s chance to consent; he ultimately accepts their choice without resistance.

Significant themes

  • Duty and sacrifice: The dragons give up their freedom to defend the world.
  • Atonement: Their past corruption motivates them to make amends.
  • Trust and shared purpose: Shawn and the dragons combine their souls and abilities against a greater threat.
  • Power and its limits: The transformation is potent but temporary, costly, and constrained by Shawn’s body.

Ch. 218The Cleansed Eranikus

Plot points and events

  • The four Green Dragons’ souls merge into Shawn’s Soulbinding Staff, greatly increasing its power and bringing it close to legendary status. The staff’s nature magic protects Shawn as the souls temporarily turn him into a powerful Green Dragon.
  • With Broll and Chromie’s support, Shawn’s dragon form knocks Xavius back, giving Guardian Remulos the opening he needs to close the Emerald Dream passage. Xavius is prevented from invading Moonglade again for the foreseeable future.
  • Shawn then helps defeat and cleanse Eranikus. Freed from Nightmare corruption, Eranikus loses its power boost and is left weaker than before, though he is expected to recover somewhat.
  • Eranikus repents. Despite the harm he caused, the others forgive him, recognizing both the danger they face and his long service to the Green Dragonflight.
  • Remulos suggests Eranikus repay Shawn for helping secure his redemption. Shawn asks for the Green Scepter of the Shifting Sands Shard, explaining that it is needed to reforge the Scepter, open the Scarab Wall, and enter Ahn’Qiraj. Eranikus is alarmed and questions the timing; Shawn begins explaining that Ahn’Qiraj’s seal is weakening.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shawn gains a remarkable weapon and briefly wields the power of four Green Dragons, but he is conscious of the staff’s limited reserves and ends his transformation quickly. He remains focused on the larger threat at Ahn’Qiraj.
  • Eranikus emerges cleansed, remorseful, and diminished in strength. His interaction with Shawn shifts from the aftermath of conflict toward a possible debt of gratitude, though he is wary of Shawn’s proposed campaign.
  • Remulos, Tyrande, Broll, and Chromie help bring about Xavius’s defeat and Eranikus’s cleansing. Remulos’s appeal frames Eranikus’s redemption as an opportunity to repay Shawn.
  • Xavius is thwarted but not defeated outright; closing the passage halts his immediate access to Moonglade, while he remains active in the Emerald Dream.

Significant themes

  • Redemption and forgiveness: Eranikus’s repentance and past service earn him a chance to return, despite the severity of his wrongdoing.
  • Power and sacrifice: Shawn’s temporary strength depends on the Soulbinding Staff, whose precious nature-magic reserves are rapidly depleted.
  • Larger threats and difficult choices: Even after the immediate crisis, the weakening seal at Ahn’Qiraj raises the question of whether the heroes can afford to delay action.

Ch. 219A Legendary Staff

Key plot points and events

  • Eranikus learns Shawn is gathering the Scepter of the Shifting Sands shards. Shawn reports that the green and blue shards have been found, Anachronos holds the bronze shard, and efforts are underway to obtain the red shard with help from both the Alliance and Horde.
  • Grateful that Shawn purified him, Eranikus promises to join the battle at Silithus when the Scarab Wall falls and the Gates of Ahn’Qiraj open.
  • Eranikus, Remulos, and Tyrande agree to transform Shawn’s imperfect Soulbinding Staff into a legendary weapon. Tyrande supplies an ancient Moonstone, while Remulos recommends adding Arcane power to suit Shawn’s abilities as both Druid and mage. Broll and Chromie also volunteer their help.
  • During the ascension ritual, Nature Magic and the Moonstone’s Arcane energy interfere, changing the staff into a spellcasting weapon. The energies are stabilized, and Eranikus binds it to the souls of four Green Dragons, making their merging with Shawn safe and controllable.
  • The staff’s full power depends on Shawn’s progress as a Druid: he can merge with one dragon at Low Rank, two at Mid Rank, three at High Rank, and all four at Archdruid level. At the highest level, he can become a legendary Green Dragon with power comparable to Eranikus.

Character developments

  • Shawn gains the support of major dragon and Night Elf figures, as well as a legendary staff that complements his mixed Druid and mage abilities. He privately recognizes that his true approval came from Nozdormu, not Anachronos.
  • Eranikus moves from astonishment to admiration and gratitude, pledging aid and personally ensuring the dragon souls can bond safely with Shawn.
  • Tyrande, Remulos, Broll, and Chromie each contribute to Shawn’s weapon, reflecting their growing trust and willingness to aid him.
  • Shawn also considers the staff’s time enchantment a means of extending his life, which he sees as an opportunity to pursue knowledge and experience.

Significant themes

  • Cooperation and shared strength: Dragons, Night Elves, and others combine their powers to prepare for the coming conflict.
  • Growth and earned power: The staff’s capabilities are tied to Shawn’s future advancement rather than granted all at once.
  • Harmony between different forms of magic: Nature and Arcane energies are brought together despite their initial interference.
  • Life and possibility: The discussion of longevity frames time as precious because it allows further learning and experience.

Character interactions

  • Eranikus warmly questions Shawn about the scepter shards, praises him, and commits to fighting alongside him.
  • Remulos and Tyrande collaborate on the weapon’s design, with Remulos proposing an Arcane component and Tyrande providing the Moonstone.
  • Broll and Chromie join the ritual out of respect and affection for Shawn, contributing Nature Magic and time magic.
  • Eranikus’s final enchantment links the four dragon souls to Shawn while preserving his control over their use.

Ch. 220Power of the Emerald · Staff of the Dream Guardian

Plot points

  • Eranikus’s plan gives Shawn a powerful means to sustain his spells and transform into a green dragon. Though still a Low-Rank Druid, Shawn can now fight on equal terms with a Grand Professionist.
  • The group names Shawn’s legendary staff “Power of the Emerald · Staff of the Dream Guardian.” Its materials and the fused souls of four adult green dragons link it to both the green dragonflight and the Emerald Dream.
  • Remulos reports that Xavius, now the Lord of the Nightmare, is behind the Emerald Dream’s corruption and may be targeting Teldrassil. Tyrande orders a secret investigation and asks Broll to summon secluded Archdruids. If Fandral Staghelm is implicated, they will arrest or kill him.
  • Tyrande fears that Malfurion is trapped in the Emerald Dream. Remulos agrees to search for him, while Eranikus plans to enlist Ysera and the uncorrupted green dragons. Remulos also agrees to seek help from the powerful demigod souls in the Dream, though he warns they may refuse.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shawn gains confidence and potential stature through his new dragon transformation and staff, while the others envision him becoming a future guardian of the Emerald Dream.
  • Tyrande shifts from celebration to urgent leadership, coordinating an investigation and several rescue efforts while openly expressing concern for Malfurion.
  • Remulos and Eranikus commit to helping, but Remulos is candid about the uncertainty of persuading the demigods. Tyrande appreciates his willingness despite the lack of guarantees.
  • The staff-naming scene is warm and collaborative: Tyrande defers, Remulos proposes the name’s symbolism, Eranikus refines it, and Shawn enthusiastically accepts it.

Significant themes

  • Strength and status: Shawn’s new power changes his standing in a world where might confers influence.
  • Duty and guardianship: The staff’s name reflects the green dragons’ responsibility to protect the Emerald Dream.
  • Cooperation against corruption: Druids, dragons, and demigods may need to unite against Xavius.
  • Hope amid uncertainty: The characters commit to saving Malfurion and the Dream, while recognizing that success is far from assured.
