Background / History

Tang San arrives at Nuoding Academy accompanied by Old Jack, but a guard initially refuses to accept his Martial Soul Hall certificate despite its confirmation of Innate Full Soul Power. Yu Xiaogang intervenes and becomes interested upon seeing Tang San's talent, though he is initially skeptical because Tang San's registered martial soul is Blue Silver Grass 4.

Yu Xiaogang later guides Tang San in absorbing a century-level Datura Snake soul ring. The process succeeds, making Tang San a Soul Master and granting him the Bind soul skill 9.

At the Martial Soul Hall registration, Tang San publicly reveals his Innate Full Soul Power. Lin Mo's Thunder Hell Vine then suppresses Tang San's Blue Silver Grass, humiliating him and leaving him with cold, murderous intent toward Lin Mo 11.

After recovering from a later defeat by Lin Mo, Tang San agrees to leave Nuoding Academy with Yu Xiaogang for a better school. He gives Xiao Wu the address of Shrek Academy in Suotuo City before she departs separately 80. Tang Hao subsequently takes Tang San away after his own failed attempt to assassinate Lin Mo. Tang San tends his father's injuries, and they enter Sunset Forest to seek medicinal herbs, shelter from retaliation, and combat experience 145.

Appearance

At his arrival at Nuoding Academy, Tang San is an ordinary-looking boy of about six with a few freckles and unusually steady eyes 4. At just over ten, he is thin but looks thirteen or fourteen 145. His ordinary Blue Silver Grass martial soul is described as common roadside grass that can be stepped on at will 80. Following the Sunset Forest beast tide, he suffers severe bite wounds and facial disfigurement 147.

Tang San is notably composed for his age, but his restraint gives way to hostility when he or those close to him are challenged. When the academy guard rejects his certificate, he stares at him with murderous intent 4.

He is deeply protective of Xiao Wu and Yu Xiaogang. He confronts Lin Mo after Lin Mo reveals Xiao Wu's identity, threatens to leave Nuoding Academy over the treatment of his teacher, and attempts to attack Lin Mo with hidden weapons when provoked 73 75.

Following his defeat by Lin Mo, Tang San experiences self-doubt over Blue Silver Grass's limitations. He regains confidence by reflecting on his Twin Martial Souls and the potential of the Clear Sky Hammer 80. He also shows devotion to Tang Hao, caring for his injuries and searching for medicine. When Lin Mo's illusion causes Tang Hao to charge into the Sunset Forest beast tide, Tang San tries to pull his father back despite the danger 145 146.

The discovery that two ten-year rings have been attached to his Clear Sky Hammer devastates Tang San. He blames Lin Mo for the forest attack and swears revenge after seeing the effect of the revelation on his father 147.

Blue Silver Grass

Tang San's primary displayed martial soul. While ordinary in its displayed quality, he has used his Tang Sect techniques to compensate for its shortcomings in prior fights 80. Tang Hao states that Tang San inherited it from Ah Yin and that it is not comparable to ordinary Blue Silver Grass 91.

• Its quality is suppressed by Lin Mo's Thunder Hell Vine 11.
• Its vines become tougher after Tang San absorbs the Datura Snake soul ring 9.
• Its weakness against powerful or mutated martial souls becomes apparent in Tang San's loss to Lin Mo 80.

Tang San relies on Tang Sect techniques to offset the limitations of Blue Silver Grass in combat 80.

Tang San possesses the Clear Sky Hammer as a second martial soul. He does not use it in the documented confrontations with Lin Mo, but Lin Mo later draws it out while controlling him with Spiritual Body Threads 80 146.

• Tang San regards it as the world's number one tool martial soul 80.
• He believes beginning with the Clear Sky Hammer would have given him a far better chance against Lin Mo 80.
• He originally hopes to cultivate Blue Silver Grass first and add high-age soul rings to the Clear Sky Hammer later. Lin Mo disrupts this plan by forcing two ten-year rings onto it 80 146 147.

Relationships

• Yu Xiaogang — Teacher and mentor. Yu Xiaogang recognizes Tang San's Innate Full Soul Power, supervises his first soul-ring absorption, and later prioritizes finding him a better cultivation environment. Tang San's attempt to use Parasite against Lin Mo instead injures Yu Xiaogang 4 9 76 80.
• Lin Mo — Rival and adversary. Lin Mo suppresses Tang San's martial soul, defeats him after Tang San attacks with hidden weapons, and later beats him at Nuoding Academy. In Sunset Forest, Lin Mo subjects Tang San to an illusion and a beast tide, then forces two ten-year rings onto his Clear Sky Hammer. Tang San blames him and vows revenge 11 75 76 146 147.
• Xiao Wu — Someone Tang San protects. He intercepts her after she follows Lin Mo and confronts Lin Mo over her safety. • Tang Hao — Father. Tang Hao leaves Holy Soul Village after receiving news of Tang San's serious injuries and seeks information on Lin Mo. Following his failed assassination attempt, Tang San cares for him and accompanies him into Sunset Forest. Tang Hao rescues Tang San from Soul Beasts after the beast tide and is distraught by the ten-year rings forced onto his son's Clear Sky Hammer 77 79 145 147.

Arrival at Nuoding Academy

Tang San arrives with proof of Innate Full Soul Power, meets Yu Xiaogang, and begins his path at Nuoding Academy 4.

First Soul Ring

Under Yu Xiaogang's protection, Tang San absorbs the Datura Snake's century-level soul ring and gains Bind 9.

Conflict with Lin Mo

Tang San's Blue Silver Grass is suppressed at the Martial Soul Hall, beginning a lasting hostility toward Lin Mo 11. Their conflict escalates when Tang San confronts Lin Mo over Xiao Wu, attacks him with hidden weapons, and is decisively defeated. His attempt to activate Parasite also injures Yu Xiaogang 73 75 76.

Recovery and Departure

After recovering physically from Lin Mo's beating, Tang San struggles with the inadequacy of Blue Silver Grass against exceptional martial souls. Yu Xiaogang resolves to leave Nuoding Academy and take him to a better school, while Xiao Wu chooses to depart separately. Tang San gives her the address of Shrek Academy in Suotuo City 80.

Sunset Forest Beast Tide

After Tang Hao's failed attempt to assassinate Lin Mo, Tang San helps care for his injured father. They enter Sunset Forest to seek medicinal herbs and train while avoiding further danger outside. Lin Mo and Zi Ling secretly target them with a beast tide and illusions. Tang Hao becomes separated from Tang San, who is distracted by visions of Xiao Wu and Lin Mo and is grievously wounded by Soul Beasts 144 145 146.

Lin Mo finds Tang San barely alive and uses Spiritual Body Threads to force two ten-year soul rings onto his Clear Sky Hammer before leaving him unconscious. Tang Hao rescues him, but the discovery of the white rings leaves both father and son devastated. Tang San swears to avenge what happened 146 147.
