Background / History

At the peak of the Endless Fire Domain, Xiao Yan commanded twenty-three Exotic Flames and had surpassed the Dou Di realm. While attempting a final transformation toward an uncharted realm, his flames abruptly went out of control and dragged him into a spatial rift. 1

He fell onto Douluo Continent near Shrek Academy with Han Li, Shi Hao, and Wang Lin. His power was drastically suppressed: he could no longer sense Dou Qi properly, and his Exotic Flame produced only feeble sparks. 2 His immediate goal became rebuilding his strength in this unfamiliar world, which he considers a temporary stepping stone. 9

Following a Martial Soul awakening, he gained the Xuanhuang Flame martial soul and Level Four Innate Soul Power, a result that deeply offended his pride given his former status as the Flame Emperor. 10 11 Shrek Academy later formally accepted him as a special extramural student. 20

Appearance

Xiao Yan is repeatedly associated with cyan flame light and flickering Exotic Flame patterns along his right arm. After arriving on Douluo Continent, he is often depicted bruised, dirt-covered, or in damaged clothing following training and challenges. 2 5 22
