Background

Tang San was formerly an outer disciple of the Tang Sect. He stole its inner-sect techniques, assassinated sixteen experts, and leapt from a cliff after being discovered; he later transmigrated to the Douluo Continent. He retains the Tang Sect’s major arts, hidden-weapon knowledge, and the conviction that he is a genius destined to become the Sea God. 12

At Shrek Academy, Tang San initially enjoys the ordinary bickering and companionship of the Shrek Seven Devils. When Han Li, Xiao Yan, Shi Hao, and Wang Lin fall into the academy’s orbit, he is the first to offer them help and repeatedly attempts to introduce, guide, and befriend them. The four consistently reject his efforts and dismiss his strength. 2 3 11

Their arrival destabilizes Tang San’s self-image. After losing consecutively to Han Li, Xiao Yan, Shi Hao, and Wang Lin, then suffering further defeats against Zhu Zhuqing and Dai Mubai, he accepts that his reliance on hidden weapons, Tang Sect techniques, and the Eight Spider Lances has left his basic soul-power circulation, physique, and direct combat underdeveloped. He resolves to train Tang San himself from the fundamentals rather than depend on external advantages. 12 14 15 17

Appearance

Tang San is a blue-haired youth who commonly wears blue clothing. His Blue Silver Grass manifests as blue vines spreading from beneath his feet. 2 10

  • Blue hair and blue clothes. 2
  • Uses Blue Silver Grass as his Martial Soul. 3 10
  • Can manifest eight purple-black Eight Spider Lances from his back. 17

Personality

Tang San presents himself as gentle, polite, and sincerely helpful. He repeatedly tries to mediate conflicts and include the four newcomers despite being ignored or insulted, but his persistent friendliness is often perceived as overly enthusiastic or annoying. 2 3 9 11

He is deeply insecure about his worth once confronted by opponents who eclipse his usual advantages. Defeat leaves him prone to brooding, crying, and seeking validation through repeated challenges; nonetheless, he continues to stand up after losing and eventually makes a genuine decision to rebuild his strength from the basics. 12 15 17

Tang San is intensely attached to Xiao Wu. Perceived threats to her safety can send him into an irrational emotional outburst, most notably his repeated cries of “Resurrect, my beloved.” 8 25

Tang Sect Arts

Tang San retains five major Tang Sect techniques from his prior life. 12 17

  • Mysterious Heaven Skill — circulates his internal power. 12
  • Purple Demon Eye — an eye technique used as a mental attack; it briefly affected Shi Hao but failed to stop him from counterattacking. 12
  • Mysterious Jade Hand — hardens his hands for close combat; it could strike Dai Mubai but could not penetrate White Tiger Vajra Transformation. 17
  • Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon — creates an invisible pulling force to draw an opponent in. 17
  • Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track — movement technique that creates deceptive afterimages and enables abrupt changes in attack direction. 12 17

Hidden Weapons

Tang San uses concealed Tang Sect weapons in layered ranged combinations. 12

  • Godly Zhuge Crossbow — fires crossbow bolts in arranged volleys. 12
  • Dragon Whisker Needle — near-invisible needle intended to pierce protective energy. 12
  • Bodhi Blood — dark-red spheres that explode on contact with air. 12
  • Xiao Yan’s Exotic Flame burned all three stages of Tang San’s demonstrated hidden-weapon combination before they could harm him. 12

Eight Spider Lances

  • Zhu Zhuqing — defeats Tang San quickly in a formal match and repeatedly repels him when he attempts to emulate Shi Hao’s purely physical fighting style. 14 15
  • Flender — Shrek Academy’s dean. He assigns Tang San to look after the newcomers and later places him as captain of their five-person team. 3 26

Story Role / Major Arcs

Encounter with the Four Newcomers

Tang San witnesses the four outsiders’ descent and serves as Shrek Academy’s first point of contact with them. His attempts at hospitality, introductions, and guidance are met with suspicion, indifference, or direct mockery. 1 2 3

“Resurrect, My Love” Incidents

When Xiao Wu says she is leaving to die, Tang San mistakes the statement for an imminent suicide. He loses control of his Blue Silver Grass and covers the academy entrance in vines while repeatedly demanding that she be resurrected; Xiao Wu later returns unharmed after eating apples. 8

The behavior continues when Xiao Wu suffers minor inconveniences, including a mosquito bite. Tang San acknowledges that he has a psychological issue regarding her safety. 25

Defeat by the Four Monsters

Unable to bear being called weak and useless, Tang San challenges Han Li, Xiao Yan, Shi Hao, and Wang Lin in succession. Han Li binds him, Xiao Yan burns through his hidden weapons and punches him away, Shi Hao defeats his Purple Demon Eye with instinctive physical combat, and Wang Lin crushes him with fear through the Heavenly Inverse Bead. 12

Attempts to Follow Shi Hao’s Path

After witnessing Shi Hao defeat Dai Mubai through physical dominance and combat instinct, Tang San challenges Zhu Zhuqing to a no-soul-skill physical spar. He is repeatedly kicked down and realizes that Shi Hao’s path cannot simply be copied. 15

Failure Against Dai Mubai

Tang San uses his full range of techniques against Dai Mubai, including Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track, Mysterious Jade Hand, Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon, and the Eight Spider Lances. Dai Mubai breaks the lances and decisively defeats him. Tang San then resolves to prioritize foundational training over his inherited techniques and external tools. 17

First Team Battle

Flender places Tang San as captain of a five-person team with the four newcomers. Tang San’s tactical assignments are ignored, the team lacks coordination, and the Shrek Seven Devils defeat them in under four minutes. 26
