Background & History

Qian Daoliu was introduced as Martial Soul Hall's Pope and a Level 99 Titled Douluo, placing him among the continent's foremost combatants from the outset 4. He had already undergone Angel God trials and possessed access to Angel Divine Power, though he did not reveal this advantage in every battle 121 245.

At the gathering involving the Clear Sky Sect, Qian Daoliu fought Tang Chen in a day-long duel between the Six-Winged Angel and Clear Sky martial souls. Tang Chen prevailed after detonating all nine of his spirit rings, but Qian Daoliu withheld Angel Divine Power and other decisive reserves rather than expose them for pride's sake 65 66.

While visiting Sea God Island with Chen Jianjun, Qian Daoliu recognized Bo Saixi as another divine envoy. He challenged her to assess the Sea God's representative, only to be swiftly defeated; afterward, his repeated attempts to court her were rejected and became common knowledge across the island 117 122 123 124. To reassure her, he promised that Spirit Hall would never attack Sea God Island while he lived, even offering to swear in the Angel God's name 123.

Although his later reputation emphasized refinement and relative uprightness, Xu Xiao noted that Qian Daoliu belonged to Tang Chen's generation and had fought his way upward while building Spirit Hall's domain. His old age had not erased either his strength or his capacity for ruthless methods 429.

Conflict with Chuan Ling

Qian Daoliu became increasingly concerned by Chuan Ling's unexplained rise, particularly after learning that even Chen Jianjun had joined it. He investigated the organization but could not identify the Nine Spirit Lords or determine their full strength 174 183. Initially, he advised befriending the mysterious organization and ordered Qian Xunji to deliver a gift accompanied by Golden Crocodile Douluo 174.

He personally entered Chuan Ling at night to test its leadership, dismissing Xu Xiao and Long Su as inexperienced youths. Long Su immediately shattered his sword with her Golden Dragon Spear, and Qian Daoliu withdrew when Xu Xiao summoned Chen Jianjun 184 185.

As Chuan Ling expanded, Qian Daoliu organized Spirit Hall, the two empires, and several major factions into an alliance against it. He nonetheless urged restraint and payment of Chuan Ling's demands while its capabilities remained unknown 239 240.

His later formal challenge to Chuan Ling ended in defeat. Xu Xiao's Martial Soul Avatar overwhelmed Qian Daoliu's Angel True Body, forcing him to invoke Angel Divine Power. Although the divine power broke Xu Xiao's freezing technique, the aftermath severed Qian Daoliu's right arm; Xu Xiao publicly displayed the arm at Chuan Ling's gate 245 246.

After the defeat, Qian Daoliu urged the allied factions to pool resources and train their most talented young people. He also directed those seeking a divine trial toward Sea God Island, since they could not participate in the Angel God's inheritance without Angel martial souls 246 247.

Qian Daoliu subsequently pursued a suspected divine relic in Death Valley with Golden Crocodile Douluo, but Xu Xiao and Gui Mei had already taken the inheritance. His expedition yielded nothing 248 251. Before departing, he discovered that Spirit Hall's accumulated resources had been stolen and killed the Soul Ancestor responsible for guarding them. When Ning Fengzhi reported the same disappearance of resources from Soul Union City, Qian Daoliu abandoned the inquiry and privately questioned whether opposing Chuan Ling had been a mistake 248.

Cession of Spirit City

After learning that Qian Renxue's fortune was being drained, Qian Daoliu returned to Chuan Ling to request removal of her red thread. Ye Shengxin informed him that the danger had increased and that the old price no longer applied. The new demands included Spirit Hall's inheritance and the Angel Divine Sword, with the sword to be surrendered when Qian Renxue received the Angel Nine Trials 401 403.

Despite his anger, Qian Daoliu accepted the bargain, and Spirit Hall began relocating 405. He emptied Spirit Hall and Spirit City before the handover, while retaining the Angel Sacred Realm, which he could take with him through his authority as a divine envoy. Yue Guan, Ye Shengxin, Bibi Dong, and Xu Zhining arrived to receive the former headquarters and city 408. Qian Daoliu insisted that Spirit Hall would honor its promises despite his resentment over the Angel Divine Sword 409.

The public display of his severed arm remained a particularly painful humiliation. He regarded its return as the clearest possible gesture of goodwill from Chuan Ling, while leaving the eventual recovery of Spirit City to Qian Renxue after her ascension 421. Golden Crocodile later sought an exchange between the factions' younger generations, but Bibi Dong refused and said that Qian Renxue could collect the arm in the future as what Qian Daoliu left behind 422 423.

Qian Family Crisis

Qian Xunji's Trials and Sea God Island Expedition

Qian Daoliu hoped that Qian Xunji would receive the Angel Nine Trials and secure the Qian Clan's future. He personally remained with his son through one hundred days of kneeling in the Angel Sanctuary, but Qian Xunji received only the Angel's seven trials. Disappointed that his son did not even qualify for the divine-envoy path, Qian Daoliu ordered him to hand Spirit Hall's affairs to Golden Crocodile and concentrate on completing the trials 214.

After Qian Xunji later departed for Sea God Island without his knowledge, Qian Daoliu erupted in anger. He understood that the Sea God's representatives possessed an overwhelming advantage at sea and rebuked Golden Crocodile for allowing the expedition. He then flew to the island out of concern for his son 296 297.

Finding Qian Xunji captive, Qian Daoliu apologized to Bo Saixi and pleaded for his life, despite also threatening to destroy the island. He refused her demand for the Angel Divine Sword but agreed to deliver more than a dozen fifty-thousand-year soul bones through Chen Jianjun within a month as ransom for the captives 300.

Qian Renxue's Fate and Cultivation

Qian Daoliu's priorities shifted further toward his family after the birth of his granddaughter, Qian Renxue 323. He regarded her as Spirit Hall's hope and personally used Angel divine power to inspect her when Xu Xiao warned that something was wrong with her fate 336 338.

To investigate Qian Renxue's red thread of fate, he accepted Xu Xiao's proposal to combine his divine power with Qian Xunji's. The ritual severely injured Qian Daoliu and catastrophically crippled Qian Xunji, whose internal organs, meridians, and dantian were damaged by the backlash 342 343.

Desperate to save his son, Qian Daoliu accepted Chuan Ling's demands for resources and a Spirit Hall-controlled city. Ye Shengxin preserved Qian Xunji's life, but his damaged dantian left him unable to cultivate 344. Qian Daoliu later refused Xu Xiao's proposed price for permanently removing the dark-red threads tied to Qian Renxue's fate—every city controlled by Spirit Hall—and instead chose to monitor the situation cautiously 345.

Qian Renxue later awakened the Six-Winged Angel martial soul with innate Rank-20 Soul Power 355. Qian Daoliu devoted Spirit Hall's resources to her cultivation and personally guided her. By age ten, she had become a Soul Ancestor; he urged her to reach Soul Sage within six years so she could begin her Divine Trial 375.

After the loss of his Soul Power, Qian Xunji tried to persuade Qian Renxue to infiltrate Chuan Ling and seize it for Spirit Hall. She rejected the plan and reported it to her grandfather. Qian Daoliu dismissed his son's schemes, told Qian Renxue to concentrate on cultivation, and promised to watch Qian Xunji closely 374 375.

Bo Saixi later brought the Sea God's Divine Oracle to Spirit Hall, revealing that Tang San's plan treated Qian Renxue as a stepping stone. Qian Daoliu became furious, and Golden Crocodile recalled that her red thread had extended toward Tang San's location 400. Concerned that the loss of her fortune might interfere with the Angel God trials, Qian Daoliu took her back to Chuan Ling rather than wait for her cultivation to advance further 401 402.

Using a leaf imbued with divine power, Ye Shengxin showed him that the thread now extended toward the far side of the sea. Qian Daoliu recognized that Qian Renxue's fortune was slowly flowing away and ultimately agreed to Chuan Ling's increased price for intervention 403 405. At the handover of Spirit Hall, he promised to begin her divine trial once the thread was removed 408.

Planned Sacrifice for the Angel Trials

Qian Daoliu knew that beginning Qian Renxue's divine trial would cost him his life. He accepted this outcome and expected to be dead before she could reclaim Spirit City as a god 421. After Bibi Dong's remarks prompted Golden Crocodile to question him, he revealed the truth to his longtime companion, whose attempts to dissuade him failed 423 425.

After killing Black Gorilla, Tang San's mother, Qian Renxue reached Level 70 and began kneeling in the Angel Sanctuary. Qian Daoliu continued preparing her trial, noting that one month of worship remained 425. He asked Golden Crocodile to keep his impending death secret from Qian Renxue and, if events became impossible to manage, use his better relationship with Chuan Ling to save her life 426.

Without Qian Daoliu's stated knowledge, Golden Crocodile sought Xu Xiao's assistance and immediately agreed to exchange his own life for Qian Daoliu's. Xu Xiao said that he could let them live, but would first have to make them die once. No completed rescue or sacrifice is established by this exchange, and Qian Daoliu remained alive and active afterward 426 429.

Retaliation Against Tang San

After learning of the threat to Qian Renxue, Qian Daoliu authorized Golden Crocodile to pursue Tang San while he sought Chuan Ling's help for his granddaughter 401. When Tang San could not be located, he ordered a joint warrant for Tang San, Xiao Wu, and Yu Xiaogang, offering a reward and a soul bone for their capture 408.

In Soul Union City, he questioned Liu Erlong about her ties to Blue Lightning and Yu Xiaogang. Her reaction confirmed that Yu Xiaogang possessed a divine trial, prompting Qian Daoliu to summon Ning Fengzhi and seek further information 418.

Qian Daoliu and Ning Fengzhi also assembled the allied factions' young geniuses for a proposed exchange with Chuan Ling's younger generation 422. During those preparations, he approved publicizing Qian Renxue's intention to kill Tang San's mother and take her hundred-thousand-year soul ring. Qian Daoliu later used captured Clear Sky Sect and Blue Lightning members to force Tang Zhan and Yu Yuanzhen to choose between their clans and Tang San. He threatened to kill one hostage for every minute of hesitation and personally carried out executions 429. When Yu Xiaogang proclaimed himself the Rakshasa God's successor, Qian Daoliu ignored the boast and ordered Golden Crocodile to slaughter the Blue Lightning captives without leaving survivors 429.

Tang Zhan accused him of betraying the Angel Clan's benevolence. His relative uprightness has clear limits where his family is concerned. He is strict toward Qian Xunji, yet repeatedly risks Spirit Hall's resources, political standing, and his own safety for his son and granddaughter 262 300 342 343 344.
