Background / History

Beerus arrived on Planet Vegeta alongside Whis intending to destroy the Saiyan race, whose atrocities alongside the Frieza Force were destabilizing Universe 7. His encounter with Louis changed that decision: intrigued by Louis’s immunity to divine pressure and his Rudimentary Autonomous State, Beerus accepted him as a Candidate God of Destruction. He spared the Saiyans on the condition that they join the Galactic Patrol. 2 3

After bringing Louis to the God of Destruction Realm, Beerus recognized his extraordinary potential. Louis defeated Whis’s projection of young Beerus despite having less power, convincing Beerus that he had found a successor capable of reversing Universe 7’s decline. Beerus entrusted Louis’s training to Whis before entering a prolonged sleep to avoid other Gods of Destruction investigating the divine aura surrounding Louis. 4

Beerus awakened ten years later after smelling instant noodles. Initially failing to recognize the now-grown Louis, he attacked him and was surprised to find that Louis had learned Destruction energy and retained his immunity. Their battle demonstrated Louis’s growth but also confirmed the enormous gap between a Candidate God of Destruction and Beerus himself. 12 13

When Gods of Destruction from other universes brought their Candidates to challenge Louis, Beerus fiercely defended both Louis and Earth. He later reveled in mocking the other gods after Louis endured the combined attacks of ten Candidates without injury. 26 29

Following Quitela’s attack on Namek and attempts to target Louis, Beerus retaliated by traveling to Universe 4 and humiliating Quitela without openly fighting him. He and Whis subsequently began patrolling Universe 7 for signs of retaliation. 36 41 44 48

Appearance

Beerus is described as a purple figure. He appeared in pajamas when he woke from his ten-year slumber and flew from the God of Destruction Palace to investigate the smell of instant noodles. 12

Personality

Beerus is temperamental, prideful, and easily provoked—especially by disrespect or interference with food. Louis calling him “big kitty” immediately enraged him, while the loss of instant noodles upon waking prompted him to attack before recognizing his own disciple. 3 12

Despite his arrogance, Beerus is pragmatic about his responsibilities. He chose Louis not only because Louis was unusual, but because Universe 7 was declining and needed a powerful successor. He also spared the Saiyans under strict conditions rather than destroying them outright. 3 4

Beerus is protective of what he considers his: Louis, Universe 7, and particularly Earth’s food. When Toppo’s Destruction energy endangered Earth, Beerus nearly fought Belmod and warned every Candidate against damaging the planet again. 26

He is also openly spiteful toward rival Gods of Destruction. After years of being mocked for choosing a child as his Candidate, Beerus enthusiastically humiliated the other gods once Louis proved invulnerable to their successors’ attacks. 29
