Background / History

Early prodigy

Itachi was identified as an exceptional Uchiha prodigy at age five. His recorded talents included blue-grade Genius, Insight, and Mental Power, as well as Sharingan and Killer Instinct traits. Xingye regarded him as a “legendary super genius” despite deciding that the boy’s abilities remained within human limits. 1

He admired his elder brother Xingye’s rapid growth and resolved to awaken his own Sharingan early. Xingye, in turn, consistently encouraged him, telling Itachi that his talent could eventually exceed his own. 2

Naka Shrine and the clan’s future

At age seven, Itachi visited Naka Shrine to study old scrolls and improve his strength. He had gained a blue-grade Sharingan talent and a Leadership trait by this point. 5

He and Xingye sparred outside the shrine. Although Itachi pushed his Sharingan from one tomoe to two, Xingye defeated him decisively and emphasized that combat required psychological judgment as well as technique. 5

After Xingye explained the Uchiha clan’s precarious position in Konoha, Itachi pledged to follow him in changing the clan’s fate through strength and wisdom rather than violence. 5

Uchiha reform and training

Itachi joined Xingye and Fugaku in the triumvirate that took control of the Uchiha clan’s reforms. He supported the effort to strengthen the clan, counter Danzo, and prevent the planned massacre. 8

He later trained regularly with Xingye. Their Sharingan-versus-Sharingan spars strengthened both brothers, and Itachi approached a Mangekyo Sharingan awakening. 14

Following Danzo’s defeat, Itachi publicly committed himself to Xingye’s vision for the restored Uchiha clan and declared that he would become his brother’s most loyal partner. 25

War against Akatsuki

When Xingye began moving against Akatsuki, Itachi chose to fight beside him. He accompanied Xingye to Yugakure, then returned to Akatsuki with Kisame as an undercover operative tasked with collecting intelligence and coordinating internal sabotage. 26 27

During Akatsuki’s counterattack on Konoha, Itachi remained at the Ninja Academy to protect Sasuke. He used Amaterasu against Hidan and Kakuzu, then escorted Sasuke away from the attack. 30

Xingye later assigned him to secretly contact Obito and obtain further intelligence on Akatsuki’s leadership. 37

Illness and recovery

Itachi developed severe Mangekyo Sharingan side effects, including chest pain, blood coughing, and damage to his lungs and heart. 38

Xingye treated him with Otsutsuki bloodline healing and Mangekyo-assisted chakra control. After a week of treatment, Itachi’s condition stabilized enough for normal movement, though he was ordered not to overuse the Sharingan or return to combat prematurely. 38

Xingye also planned to remove the Mangekyo’s side effects permanently and evolve Itachi’s eyes into an Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan without harming a relative. 38
