Background / History

Wu Changkong was demoted from East Sea Academy’s advanced division to teach the incoming primary-division Class Five. At a faculty meeting, he confidently declared that he would produce outstanding students despite receiving the lowest-performing class in the grade. Class Five’s students trained diligently, but their ordinary martial souls and limited aptitude left Wu Changkong unable to develop a single two-ring Soul Master during his first month. 13 16

Frustrated with Class Five’s prospects and the failure of his pledge, Wu Changkong recruited Tang Wulin from Class One. He identified Tang Wulin’s Clear Sky Hammer, Blue Silver Grass, and innate full soul power as the foundation of an exceptional talent, offering personal guidance and resources to raise Tang Wulin’s spirit souls. 16

Following Class Five’s promotion to Class Two through Tang Wulin’s individual performance, East Sea Academy established the First-Year Zero Class. Wu Changkong was appointed its deputy head teacher under head teacher Ye Yingluo, with Tang Wulin selected as one of its initial seven students. 27

Wu Changkong was formerly associated with Shrek Academy and had been expelled from it before the Spirit Pagoda attempted to recruit Han Li. His status as a disciple of Shrek Sea God Pavilion elder Zhuo Shi was known to Elder Chen. 37 38

He is highly ambitious and outcome-driven. His belief that the strong need only pursue victory is rooted in Shrek’s teaching that “rules are made for the weak.” This outlook leads him to place his hopes almost entirely on Tang Wulin after neglecting the rest of Class Five. 24 26

His loyalty to Shrek remains strong despite his expulsion. He repeatedly tries to steer Han Li toward Shrek, later criticizing Han Li for publicly defeating Shrek teacher Shen Yi. Recruitment of Tang Wulin

Following Tang Wulin’s defeat by Han Li, Wu Changkong judged that Tang Wulin’s Clear Sky Hammer was being poorly utilized. He offered to teach him, bring him into Class Five, and secure century-level spirit souls through the Spirit Ascension Platform. Tang Wulin accepted and transferred classes. 16

Wu Changkong brought Tang Wulin to an auction to purchase three Primary Spirit Ascension Platform entry cards. Han Li deliberately escalated the bidding, forcing Wu Changkong to pay three million Federal Currency—approximately six times their usual price—for the cards. 18 19

After Tang Wulin became a two-ring Great Soul Master, Wu Changkong arranged another challenge against Han Li to demonstrate his student’s progress. Tang Wulin was again defeated in one blow, and Wu Changkong lost the wagered Deep Sea Sunken Silver. 23 24 25

Neglect of Class Five

After Tang Wulin joined Class Five, Wu Changkong concentrated his attention on him while leaving the original thirty-plus students with little meaningful instruction. The students became disheartened, with many considering a school transfer. 26

Tang Wulin alone carried Class Five through the Class Promotion Tournament, enabling it to rise to Class Two. Other teachers recognized that the promotion resulted from Tang Wulin’s individual strength rather than the class’s overall development. 26

Formation of the First-Year Zero Class

After the Class Promotion Tournament, East Sea Academy formed the First-Year Zero Class to gather its most outstanding freshmen. Wu Changkong was named deputy head teacher, while Ye Yingluo became the head teacher. 27

Tang Wulin was chosen from Class Two alongside six students from Class One, including Han Li, Xie Xie, and Gu Yue. Wu Changkong’s appointment placed him once again in a teaching role connected to both Tang Wulin and Han Li. 27

Dispute over Han Li

When Elder Chen offered Han Li entry into the Spirit Pagoda’s core disciple sequence, Wu Changkong attempted to dissuade Han Li and advocate for Shrek Academy instead. Elder Chen rejected Wu Changkong’s claim to make that decision for Han Li. 37 38

After Han Li defeated Shen Yi in public, Wu Changkong reprimanded him for humiliating a Shrek teacher. He was exposed as a Shrek alumnus, and his continued efforts to recruit Han Li were portrayed as an attempt to use Han Li against Yun Ming. 46 47 48

Yu Zhen dismissed Wu Changkong from East Sea Academy, judging that a teacher intent on sending its students elsewhere endangered the academy’s interests. Wu Changkong left after Qiangu Dongfeng’s pressure forced him to withdraw his killing intent. 48

Death

Wu Changkong secretly followed Tang Wulin and was exposed by Han Li inside the domain Heaven and Earth Black and White. He attempted to defend himself with the Sky Frost Sword and two-word battle armor, but Han Li’s black-and-white true dragon shattered both his defenses and reduced him to a bloody mist. 58
