Xu Tianran was already the reigning emperor of the Sun Moon Empire when Qian Daoliu arrived ten thousand years in the future. Though physically disabled at the time, he remained at the tournament venue and ordered his forces to establish layered defenses rather than retreat, impressing Qian Daoliu with his decisiveness. 3

When Xuan Zi and Ye Xishui called on the Sun Moon Empire to oppose Qian Daoliu, Xu Tianran instead sealed the arena and abandoned the Holy Spirit Cult. Following Ye Xishui's defeat and Long Xiaoyao's escape, he accepted Kong Deming's counsel that Qian Daoliu's group should not be antagonized. 4 5

Xu Tianran formally invited Qian Daoliu, Bo Saixi, and Tang Chen to become Honored Guests of the empire, granting them status equal to Kong Deming and the rank of Prince. Qian Daoliu declined permanent service but accepted temporary access to the Royal Library, and Xu Tianran accommodated him. 7

He later backed Qian Daoliu's request to rebuild Spirit Hall under Ye Guyi, promising imperial funding and protection. After Qian Daoliu and Bo Saixi returned, Xu Tianran sought their aid while suffering from death energy, poison, and the worsening effects of his disability. Xu Tianran continued to conceal his recovery while leading the empire through invasions, internal unrest, and renewed attacks by the Holy Spirit Cult. Xu Tianran attempted an open political recruitment of Qian Daoliu, Bo Saixi, and Tang Chen after witnessing their strength.

Response to the Holy Spirit Cult

After receiving reports that Evil Soul Masters had massacred three cities in a single hour, Xu Tianran immediately ordered Kong Deming to mobilize the Imperial Soul Master Legion and annihilate the perpetrators. 7

Later, amid war and widespread Evil Soul Master attacks, he entrusted Qian Daoliu and Bo Saixi with eliminating Evil Soul Masters in the former Tianhun and Douling territories. He assigned Fire Phoenix Douluo Luan Feng and the Fire Phoenix Soul Engineer Legion to accompany them. 31 32

When the Douling Empire and Holy Spirit Cult jointly attacked the Douling front, Xu Tianran had already deployed Kong Deming there to hold the line. After Ye Xishui ambushed and incapacitated Kong Deming, Xu Tianran personally appealed to Qian Daoliu and Bo Saixi for assistance. 50 51

Continental Unification

After the Sun Moon Empire narrowly avoided collapse, Xu Tianran readily supported Qian Daoliu's proposal to press the advantage against the Star Luo Empire and unify the continent alongside Soul Hall and the Spirit Pagoda. 100

Qian Daoliu subsequently brought the remaining territories—including the Ice Sea, Sunset Forest, Far North, and Evil Demon Forest—under his control as the continental unification campaign continued. 101

Health and Recovery

Xu Tianran's condition deteriorated severely during Qian Daoliu's absence. He appeared prematurely aged, suffered persistent coughing, and relied on a wheelchair. Bo Saixi detected death energy and an additional toxin within him, both draining his life force; his lower body and legs were also disabled. 29

For the stability of the Sun Moon Empire and Soul Hall, Qian Daoliu chose to save him. Bo Saixi used the Life Scepter to purge the death energy and toxin, restore his vitality, and heal his legs and lower body completely. 29 30

After recovering, Xu Tianran swore that Qian Daoliu and Bo Saixi were his “second parents.” Qian Daoliu warned him that his poisoning likely came from a disloyal person in his inner circle and instructed him to continue feigning disability while the traitor remained unidentified.
