Background / History
Tang Chen initially battled Qian Daoliu and Bo Saixi in a three-way clash of Peerless Douluos. When their strongest techniques collided, all three vanished and arrived above the Sun Moon Empire’s tournament city. Qian Daoliu rescued Bo Saixi but left Tang Chen to fall to the ground, provoking Tang Chen’s anger. 1
His attachment to Bo Saixi became a point of humiliation after she openly chose Qian Daoliu as the man worthy of her devotion. Tang Chen became enraged, coughed blood, and fainted; he later departed the Sun Moon Empire on his own. 7 14
Tang Chen reappeared alongside Huo Yuhao’s surviving Shrek group in the Sunset Forest. He led them to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well in search of immortal herbs capable of healing his great-granddaughter, Wang Dong’er. He treated the secret realm as a Tang Sect inheritance and pressured its plant-type soul beasts to yield the needed herbs. 46 47
When Qian Daoliu and Bo Saixi intervened to seize the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record and the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, Tang Chen protected Huo Yuhao and challenged Qian Daoliu to a duel. The winner would claim the secret realm; Tang Chen additionally demanded the return of the Treasure Record, while Qian Daoliu demanded Tang Chen’s Ring Detonation technique. 47 48
Tang Chen lost despite unveiling the Asura Magic Sword and detonating all nine of his soul rings. Bound by the duel’s terms and unable to continue fighting, he passed the Ring Detonation secret method to Qian Daoliu and was permitted to leave with Huo Yuhao’s group. 48 49
Afterward, Tang Chen gained a second martial soul by refining the Asura Magic Sword as his own. He participated in the Spirit Pagoda Council’s series of peak duels, where his first rematch with Qian Daoliu ended without a decisive victor after his uncontrolled Asura power was suppressed by Qian Daoliu and Bo Saixi’s Flower of Creation. 72 73 74
While undertaking the Asura God's trials, Tang Chen learned to control Asura divine power. He and Qian Daoliu later fought as the respective targets of the Destruction God Trial and Asura inheritance, culminating in Tang Chen’s defeat and apparent death at Qian Daoliu’s hands. Tang San subsequently arranged for Shrek’s divine-powered members to revive Tang Chen and Tang Hao. 91 92 93
During the later war for Ming Capital, Tang Chen resolved to trade his life for Qian Daoliu’s. He detonated the rings of both his martial souls, bringing the power of eighteen soul rings to bear and dying alongside Qian Daoliu after the latter impaled him with the Destruction Scepter; Qian Daoliu alone immediately revived through a soul bone skill. 96 97
Tang Chen was active again during the fall of the Clear Sky Sect. When Ye Guyi and the Seven Original Sin Gods suppressed the Clear Sky Sect and Shrek’s remaining peak combatants, he escaped together with Tang Hao by using Ring Detonation. 101
Personality
Tang Chen is proud, direct, and easily provoked, particularly where Bo Saixi and Qian Daoliu are concerned. Qian Daoliu’s closeness with Bo Saixi drives him to open jealousy and anger rather than restraint. 1 7
He is fiercely protective of his family and the Clear Sky Sect’s legacy. His urgency to save Wang Dong’er leads him to threaten Huo Yuhao and intimidate the immortal herbs, while his defense of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well stems from his belief that it belongs to the Tang Sect’s descendants. 46 47
Despite his aggression, Tang Chen recognizes practical limits. He prevents an all-out battle inside the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, proposes a formal duel to avoid destroying its herbs, and honors the agreement after his defeat. 47 49
Tang Chen possesses considerable pride in his own strength and repeatedly seeks to prove that he is not inferior to Qian Daoliu. This desire for validation makes him willing to forcefully invoke power he cannot yet fully control and, later, to risk his life through repeated Ring Detonation. 73 92 96
He gradually demonstrates greater restraint after mastering Asura divine power. During his earlier loss of control, he warned Qian Daoliu that he might be unable to restrain himself, and after recovering his clarity, he acknowledged his defeat rather than continue indiscriminately. 73 74

- Chaotic Cloak Hammer Technique — unleashes repeated hammer strikes against Qian Daoliu. 48
- Nine Absolute Techniques of the Clear Sky — Void, Seal, Pierce, Penetrate, Entwine, Tremor, Break, Instant, and Collapse; the sequence seals escape routes through continuous hammer pressure. 48
- His attacks were hindered by Qian Daoliu’s Angel Domain, which slowed his soul-power circulation and weakened the hammer force. 48
- Uses the Nine Absolute Techniques and Great Sumeru Hammer against Qian Daoliu even after acquiring his second martial soul. 73 92
Asura Magic Sword
Tang Chen possesses the Asura Magic Sword, a scarlet Super Divine Artifact and proof of his candidacy for the Asura God inheritance. 48
- Its baleful power shattered Qian Daoliu’s condensed Angel Holy Sword in a single exchange. 48
- It clashed with Qian Daoliu’s Destruction Scepter, but was ultimately suppressed by the combined power of destruction and angelic divine energy. 48
- Tang Chen’s possession of the sword is tied to the Asura God’s recognition of him as a divine candidate. 48
- Refined the sword into his second martial soul, which possesses nine black soul rings. 72 73
- Its status as the Asura God’s supreme divine weapon causes even Di Tian to fear it instinctively. 73
Asura Divine Power
Tang Chen can draw on the divine power of the Asura inheritance, transforming into an Asura form that augments his killing intent and direct combat power. 73 92
- Initially, forcefully calling upon this power turned his hair and aura crimson and caused him to lose control of his consciousness to the sword’s baleful intent. 73
- His uncontrolled Asura power was purified and suppressed by Qian Daoliu and Bo Saixi’s Martial Soul Fusion Skill, Flower of Creation. 74
- After continued Asura trials and Tang San’s instruction, he became able to fully control the power of Asura. 91
- Can deploy Divine Slaughter’s Domain while in Asura form, using its slaughter-based divine power to contest Qian Daoliu’s Destruction Angel. 92
- Can use Asura Slash, concentrating vast killing intent into a massive strike from the Asura Magic Sword. 96 97
Ring Detonation
Ring Detonation is Tang Chen’s ultimate secret technique, later surrendered to Qian Daoliu as the price of defeat. 1 48 49
- Detonates all nine soul rings and channels their origin power into the Clear Sky Hammer. 48
- Produces force beyond that of an ordinary Limit Douluo and temporarily overwhelmed Qian Daoliu’s incoming destructive divine power. 48
- Leaves Tang Chen’s spirit rings sealed and deprives him of the strength to fight for a time. 48
- Qian Daoliu considered Tang Chen unable to recover quickly enough to participate in later combat after their first duel. 50
- Following the awakening of his second martial soul, Tang Chen can detonate an additional set of nine rings, bringing the power of eighteen detonated soul rings into a single battle. 96 97
- The doubled detonation was powerful enough to make Qian Daoliu unable to evade at close range and resulted in Tang Chen’s death after their mutual fatal exchange. 97
- Tang Chen later used Ring Detonation jointly with Tang Hao to escape the Seven Original Sin Gods’ suppression. 101
