Xiao Wu is a transformed Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast whose home is the Star Dou Great Forest. Humans killed her mother, leaving her deeply distrustful of powerful human soul masters and particularly wary of anyone who might covet her soul ring or soul bone. 102 104 Her mother is named Xiao Rou; Da Ming and Er Ming refer to her as Auntie Xiao Rou and remember that the Core Area's powerful soul beasts did not help when she died. 105 290

She shares a close bond with Da Ming, the Sky Azure Bull Python, and Er Ming, the Titan Giant Ape. Both address her as “Sister Xiao Wu,” and Er Ming's longing to see her causes him to carry her away during Tang San's soul-ring hunt. 77 104

After returning to the forest, Xiao Wu learns that Er Ming has disappeared. She blames herself for possibly contributing to his fate, while Da Ming ultimately risks entering the Core Area to seek the Beast God's aid. Er Ming later returns to the Lake of Life. 105 239 240 243

Before departing for the forest, Xiao Wu spent six years constantly alongside Tang San. She enrolled with him, trained beside him, and competed with him at the Suo Tuo Great Spirit Arena. 7 25 103 The two came from Notting City together, and Xiao Wu passed the rival Shrek Academy's entrance assessment before voluntarily withdrawing to remain with Tang San. 9

Xiao Wu is especially sensitive to powerful dragon- and ape-related auras. When Yuanen Yehui uses her Titan Giant Ape martial soul, Xiao Wu instinctively recognizes the resemblance to Er Ming and is forced to conceal her reaction from Tang San and the others. 73

Her loyalty also influences her educational choices: although she passes Shrek Academy's assessment, she refuses to enroll after Tang San is eliminated, declaring that she will not abandon him. Tang San privately regards her decision as the successful result of his deliberate display of sorrow. 9

Her fear of humans is rooted in both her mother's death and the value of a transformed soul beast's soul ring and soul bone. Rather than risk Tang San being drawn into danger or forced to choose between her and his father, she leaves without revealing her identity. 102 103 104

Academy Enrollment and Soul Arena

Xiao Wu initially watches the rival academies dispute their admission fees and teaching credentials with Tang San. Both are suspicious of the academy charging only one copper soul coin, but Wu Zhangkong's demonstration of seven soul rings prompts Tang San to register with her. 5 6

Xiao Wu arrives for academy registration with Tang San and tests at rank 29. During Tang San's conflict with the academy, she remains in a virtual pod completing the third-round assessment while Tang San tries to take her away. 7 9

She passes the assessment but chooses to leave after learning that Tang San has been eliminated. The two subsequently enroll at the older Shrek Academy across the street, later renamed Monster Academy. Their assessment under Zhao Wuji is skipped because he has been injured in his defeat by Wu Zhangkong. 9 12 16 76

She later enters the Suo Tuo Great Spirit Arena for individual matches. When Tang Wulin severely injures Tang San, she rushes onto the stage, supports Tang San in her arms, and confronts Tang Wulin in anger. 25 27

Xiao Wu wins her own opening match easily. After Tang San's defeat, Flender orders her to take him back for treatment, and Oscar helps her support him out of the arena. 27

She subsequently participates in Flender's weighted-running regimen and, with Tang San's encouragement, overcomes her reluctance to eat Oscar's recovery sausages. Once Tang San's meridians have largely recovered from the later forest incident, she agrees to accompany him back to the arena to earn cultivation funds through individual and two-person matches. 38 95

Star Dou Great Forest Incident

Xiao Wu accompanies Tang San's group into the Star Dou Great Forest for his third soul ring. Er Ming takes her away, but she cannot openly reveal their familiarity without exposing herself as a transformed soul beast. 76 77

After ensuring Er Ming will not provoke the humans, Xiao Wu condenses her third soul ring and returns to Tang San's group. Tang San's meridians are damaged during his absorption, and Xiao Wu blames herself for the incident. 77 83

Before returning, she tells Er Ming about the human with a Titan Giant Ape martial soul and asks him to teach the golden-haired Ye Xinglan a lesson if they meet. This request later becomes a major source of guilt when she discovers that Er Ming has disappeared. 77 105

Departure from Suotuo City

The presence of multiple Title Douluo around Suotuo City convinces Xiao Wu that remaining near Tang San is too dangerous. She leaves him a letter explaining that she will return only after becoming stronger, while withholding her destination and true identity. 101 103 104

She departs during the night, leaving most of her money behind and spending the last of what she carries on a carriage journey. Although she trusts Tang San, she fears that Tang Hao might intend to keep her until Tang San can use her soul ring and soul bone, potentially forcing him to choose between her and his father. These are her suspicions rather than confirmed plans by Tang Hao. 104

She returns alone to the Star Dou Great Forest, intending to remain there until she reaches the Title Douluo level. 104

Er Ming's Disappearance

Upon reuniting with Da Ming, Xiao Wu learns that Er Ming has vanished shortly after their encounter. Distressed by the possibility that her meeting with Er Ming contributed to his disappearance, she and Da Ming resolve to cultivate, seek revenge, and avenge their lost kin. 104 105

Xiao Wu later remains troubled by Er Ming's fate, but channels her helplessness into cultivation and reaches level 39. Da Ming decides to enter the forest's Core Area and seek help from the Beast God on Er Ming's behalf. 239

She also questions humans entering the forest for news. Reports that even Spirit Hall cannot contend with Shrek Academy deepen her sense of helplessness, since her current strength offers no way to challenge the academy or recover Er Ming. 239

Core Area Search and Er Ming's Return

Da Ming's request for aid is rejected by Scarlet King, who attacks and severely injures him after Da Ming refuses to retreat. Xiao Wu arrives during the conflict and attempts to assist Da Ming before Di Tian intervenes. 240

Di Tian arrives carrying Er Ming, allowing Xiao Wu to reunite with him during the confrontation. When she subsequently learns that this Di Tian is associated with Shrek Academy, she is shocked that soul beasts belong to the same institution she had distrusted and withdrawn from for Tang San's sake. 240 242

Er Ming subsequently returns to the Lake of Life, easing Xiao Wu and Da Ming's fears. Xiao Wu immediately asks whether Er Ming has seen Tang San, showing that her concern for Tang San persists despite her return to the forest. 243

Er Ming explains that a human defeated him and that Shrek Academy imprisoned and beat him. He cannot provide Xiao Wu with news of Tang San because he does not know him. 243

Star Dou Branch and Soul-Beast Cultivation

After Di Tian establishes a crude branch of Shrek Academy in the Star Dou Great Forest, Xiao Wu assists the soul beasts as they adapt to the academy's human-oriented environment. Da Ming and Er Ming receive Transforming Pills and take the human names Niu Tian and Tai Tan, while Xiao Wu requires no pill because she has already transformed. 287

Di Tian gathers the intelligent soul beasts for instruction in the Clear Origin Spirit-Opening Canon. Xiao Wu studies the technique with Niu Tian, Tai Tan, and the Ferocious Beasts, mastering its basic principles within the first day. 287 290

The technique gives Xiao Wu a new path toward strength and helps change her opinion of Shrek Academy. She comes to see the academy's resources, technology, and cultivation knowledge as beneficial to the survival and development of soul beasts. 290

During the communal meal that follows, Di Tian's nourishing meat strengthens her physique. Tai Tan's mention of Xiao Rou briefly renews her grief, but she expresses relief that he has survived and returned safely. With good resources now available, Xiao Wu resolves to concentrate on cultivation and wonders how powerful Tang San will be when they meet again. 290

Tang San's Love-Questioning Trial

Although Xiao Wu remains separated from Tang San, she continues to influence his decisions. In the Love-Questioning Valley of Heaven and Earth, he believes that his professed love for her will allow him to pass the valley's tests and wonders whether the valley can bring her to him after it summons Liu Erlong and Bibi Dong. 311 312

When questioned by the God of Love, Tang San names Xiao Wu as the person he loves and repeats his promise that anyone seeking to hurt her must first step over his corpse. After witnessing Dai Mubai qualify for the god trial, Tang San accepts the same demand to castrate himself in pursuit of eligibility. Xiao Wu is not shown participating in or learning of this test. 317
