Background / History

Sun Wukong wins the Tournament of Power, bringing prosperity to the universes. His victory and prior challenge to divine authority provoke the Gods of Destruction, who begin a covert plan to corrupt him or Vegeta with the Seed of Divine Wrath. On Earth, Wukong remains focused on training and initially treats Vegeta’s warnings about unusual divine auras with optimism. 1

When Vegeta is overtaken by the Seed on a desolate planet, Wukong uses Instant Transmission to reach him, defeats the envoy, and fights Vegeta until he can expel the Seed’s influence. He frames their bond as a partnership that will endure any challenge. 4

Wukong and Vegeta search the Land of Oblivion for a way to seal the Seed, fail an ancient trial, and are exiled to another universe. The Cosmic Guardians offer them training, after which the pair enter the Void Realm to cultivate control over the Seed’s power. 5 6 8

In the Void Realm, Wukong learns that the Seed must be understood rather than simply suppressed. He later awakens Angel Power—also called Life Power—which provides a protective, harmonious counterpart to destructive energy. 9 12

Earth is subsequently erased, driving Wukong and Vegeta to confront a God of Destruction. They are overwhelmed and retreat using Instant Transmission. On Namek, they use the Dragon Balls to restore Earth, revive its inhabitants, and unlock further potential. 15 16 17

Wukong later helps Vegeta through another loss of control in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, using Angel Power and Half-Wing Ultra Instinct to subdue him. 20 21

At Grand Zeno’s Palace, Wukong intervenes when Grand Zeno moves to erase the Gods of Destruction for their actions. The gods are spared but stripped of most of their divine power. 26

Personality

Wukong is consistently driven to train and surpass his limits, but his motivation extends beyond personal strength: he repeatedly acts to protect Earth, his family, his friends, and the wider multiverse. 1 17 19
