Background / History

Zhi Lin serves as the third seat of Heaven Dou Royal Academy's Education Committee, positioned alongside chief Meng Shenji and second seat Bai Baoshan. He is an eight-ring, control-system Spirit Douluo. During Xia Yuan's enrollment, he is stunned by Xia Yuan's thousand-year second spirit ring and notes that the accepted theoretical limit for a second ring is roughly seven hundred years 15.

When Dugu Bo removes Xia Yuan from the academy, Zhi Lin does not try to challenge the Poison Douluo directly. Instead, he demands a guarantee that Xia Yuan will return unharmed and secures a seven-day deadline for his return 24.

Personality

Zhi Lin is pragmatic and protective of the academy's students. He recognizes the limits of his authority when facing Dugu Bo, but still establishes conditions intended to safeguard Xia Yuan 24.

He is willing to reassess established teaching methods when presented with evidence. Rather than immediately siding with Qin Ming or Xia Yuan during their dispute, he authorizes a one-year period of separate instruction and later judges the results through Spirit Arena battles 37 38 47.

Zhi Lin helps oversee the formation of the Imperial Fighting Team, announcing that only seven positions are available and exempting Yu Tianheng, Dugu Yan, Ye Lingling, and the Shi brothers from the initial selection process 33.

After Xia Yuan challenges Qin Ming's teaching philosophy, Zhi Lin resolves the conflict by dividing their teaching authority. He lets the students choose whom to train under, then establishes a one-year evaluation period rather than making an immediate final judgment 37 38.

Evaluation of Separate Instruction

Zhi Lin approves Qin Ming's proposal to compare the two training groups through a sequence of one-on-one and two-on-two Spirit Arena matches. He specifically accounts for Ye Lingling's limitations as a support-system Spirit Master by allowing her to select a partner for two-on-two battles 38.
