Background / History

Before openly clashing with Qin Yao, the Yu Family used its influence and wealth to install Yu Xiaoqian as commander of the Sharp Blade Squad. Zhao Lie acknowledges that the family had invested considerable effort in securing the position and had sent his residence two chests of gold, silver, and jewels 230. Yu Xiaoqian subsequently begins investigating the homes and relatives of Mao Yuchong and other Sharp Blade Squad members, intending to use them against the squad 231.

The Yu Family is introduced through Yu Xiaoqian's abuse of power: she frames Mao Yuchong over a debt, sends Yu Residence guards against his household, orders his torture, and attempts to kill his daughter before Qin Yao intervenes 250.

After Qin Yao severely wounds Yu Xiaoqian, Yu Yanghai appears as the Yu Family patriarch. He pressures Qin Yao with the aura of an eighth-level Blood Aperture Realm martial artist, demands repayment for his daughter's injuries, and becomes wary when Qin Yao withstands his pressure 255. Yu Xiaoqian then agrees to assist Qin Yao after realizing the Yu Family's decline is unavoidable 313.

Qin Yao later infiltrates the Yu Family by disguising himself as Yu Danhe, the clan's “anchor,” using Yu Danhe's clothing, cosmetics, and a highly practiced Disguise skill 321. He discovers letters revealing that the Yu Family's cultivation method, Mountain-Shaking Five Yang Palm, is an incomplete mid-grade Mystic-tier art 324.

While posing as Yu Danhe, Qin Yao manipulates the clan's stewards into liquidating assets, ordering them to gather five million taels of silver by the next midnight with promises of relocation to the Imperial Capital and noble status 324 325. Yu Fulai and other clan members assemble four chests of jade and banknotes totaling 2.16 million taels, eagerly hoping for rewards and a better future 334.

Qin Yao kills Yu Fulai before the chief steward can expose the deception, then assumes the appearance of Sima Zhongshi, the city lord of Nine Suns City, while using Yu Danhe's jade pendant and the authority of the family's “ancestor” to gather the clan members together 336. Once close enough, he begins slaughtering them with steel needles. The clan eventually realizes he is not their ancestor but “Sima Zhongshi,” the city lord of Nine Suns City, but panic and lack of preparation leave them unable to resist. Qin Yao kills over four hundred Yu Family members in revenge for his fallen comrades 337.

In the aftermath, Nine Suns Commandery is thrown into uproar by reports that the Yu Family has been wiped out. Yu Xiaoqian's corpse is later found concealed in a chest at the Yu Residence, while Yu Yanghai and Yu Danhe's bodies are absent from the estate 339 340.
