Background / History

Yu Yanghai first appears after Qin Yao severely wounds and humiliates Yu Xiaoqian. He releases the pressure of an eighth-layer Blood Aperture Realm martial artist at close range, but becomes wary when Qin Yao withstands it despite his young age 255. Before arriving, he learns through a patrol commander that Yu Xiaoqian had secretly arranged an attack on Qin Yao and harshly condemns her for creating such an obvious and poorly concealed scheme 255.

Although enraged by his daughter's injuries, Yu Yanghai immediately weighs Qin Yao's possible background. He attempts to force Qin Yao to reveal his identity, considering the matter a possible “misunderstanding” if Qin Yao is backed by an eminent family 255. After exchanging blows, he identifies Qin Yao as only a third-layer Blood Aperture Realm cultivator but is shocked by his combat strength, movement technique, and composure 256.

Yu Yanghai decides that Qin Yao is too valuable or dangerous to treat casually. His plan shifts from simple revenge to subduing Qin Yao first, then potentially befriending him or even forming ties with the powerful clan he assumes stands behind him 256. Yu Yanghai ultimately attempts to flee with a Cloud-Treading Talisman. Qin Yao captures Yu Xiaoqian as bait, corners Yu Yanghai with a high-speed movement technique, and kills him with a spear thrust. Before his death, Yu Yanghai attempts to submit and reconcile with Qin Yao, even declaring Yu Xiaoqian deserving of her punishment, but Qin Yao refuses to spare him 300 301. Personality

Yu Yanghai is calculating even while furious. When he finds Yu Xiaoqian wounded, he does not act purely on emotion; he probes Qin Yao’s identity and weighs whether the youth may belong to an aristocratic or powerful family 255.

He is pragmatic to the point of coldness. Despite Yu Xiaoqian being badly beaten, Yu Yanghai considers abandoning her as a pawn if doing so would allow the Yu Family to befriend Qin Yao and gain long-term advantage 256.

He is also sharply critical of incompetence within his own family. He condemns Yu Xiaoqian's attempted scheme against Qin Yao as reckless and conspicuous, and later tests her reaction to intelligence about Qin Yao before concluding that she remains incapable of overcoming her hatred 255 283.
