Background / History

Goku begins the Dragon Ball search alongside Bulma, traveling on the Flying Nimbus with his Power Pole strapped to his back. Though initially wary of Lin Yuan, he quickly accepts Lin Yuan’s explanation and apologizes for his suspicion. He joins Lin Yuan and Bulma’s journey to gather the Dragon Balls. 3 4

During the journey, Goku reveals extraordinary physical durability and a strong interest in sparring with Lin Yuan. Lin Yuan initially holds a slight edge in their sparring, but Goku gradually overtakes him as the match continues. 4

After the Dragon Balls are gathered, Goku chooses to train under Master Roshi to become stronger. 7 His training produces major results by the World Martial Arts Tournament, where he reaches the final before transforming into a Great Ape. Lin Yuan and Master Roshi cut off his tail to stop the rampage. 18
