History

Majin Buu was sealed away by the wizard Bibidi long before the novel’s present events. Roger warns East Supreme Kai that Babidi will eventually break Buu’s seal, though Roger later defeats Babidi himself and acquires the magic used to seal Buu. 19 104

Roger instead releases Buu from a giant pink egg on Earth, using a spell to transform the pink gas within into Buu’s body. He offers Buu food in exchange for fighting Son Goku, establishing food as the easiest way to secure his cooperation. 103

Buu first battles Vegeta, enduring his Super Saiyan II assault through rapid regeneration before overwhelming and defeating him. He then fights Super Saiyan III Goku; although Goku damages and even blasts holes through Buu’s body, Buu continually regenerates until Goku runs out of stamina and concedes. 104 105 106 107

Concerned that Buu does not truly obey him, Roger forcibly draws out Buu’s evil side, Evil Buu. Evil Buu defeats the original Buu in their Transfiguration Beam clash and turns him into chocolate, but Roger prevents Evil Buu from consuming him and destroys Evil Buu with a Super Saiyan Rosé Kamehameha. 108 109

Roger later places Buu in Pilaf’s group’s care, paying them to teach him basic knowledge about Earth and warning them not to provoke him. Araki subsequently becomes Buu’s subordinate and is forced to prepare his food; Buu also becomes a frequent playmate for Goten and the other children. 110 130

During the Tournament of Power, Buu fights Universe 9’s Trio of Danger. After Basil is driven to the arena’s edge, Buu turns him into candy, throws the candy out of bounds, and restores Basil’s body only after his elimination is confirmed. 165 166 167

Appearance

Majin Buu is a fat, pink-skinned humanoid with a long antenna extending from his head. He wears a black vest, loose white trousers, and a belt marked with an “M.” 103

  • His head antenna emits the Transfiguration Beam. 103 106
  • Steam pours from the opening atop his head when he becomes angry. 104 106
  • With his eyes closed, he appears comparatively harmless; when he opens them, his slit-like gaze becomes visibly sinister and frightens onlookers. 104
  • His elastic body can inflate, stretch, flatten, and rebound like a ball. 105 106 107

Personality

Buu is playful, childlike, and intensely food-motivated. Upon regaining his freedom, he celebrates by dancing in the sky; after defeating Goku, he immediately flies to Roger to claim the food he was promised. 103 107

Despite his destructive strength, he can be unexpectedly polite, asking Vegeta whether he wishes to continue their fight and accepting Goku’s surrender without further violence. However, he becomes volatile when angered or insulted, particularly when Bergamo calls him “fatso.” 105 165

Abilities & Skills

Regeneration

Buu can rapidly repair damage that would incapacitate or kill most fighters.

  • He heals fist marks, burns, and major wounds almost immediately. 104 106
  • After Goku detonates energy inside him and blasts a hole through his torso, Buu regrows the missing flesh at once. 106
  • When reduced to scattered fragments, the pieces can move independently, gather together, and reform his body. 107
  • Roger describes his physique as “practically immortal,” though Buu can still be restrained or transformed by sufficient power or magic. 106 108

Transfiguration Beam

Buu fires a pink beam from his head antenna that transforms targets into candy.

  • Roger warns Goku of the beam immediately after Buu’s release. 103
  • Buu uses it against Goku, though Goku evades the attack. 106
  • In his battle with Evil Buu, their opposing beams clash; Evil Buu overpowers Buu’s beam and transforms him into chocolate. 108
  • Buu turns Basil into candy during the Tournament of Power, then restores him after throwing the candy from the arena. 167

Elastic Body and Absorption

Buu can reshape his body for attack, restraint, defense, and mobility.

  • His arms stretch outward and snap back to bind opponents, as seen when he traps Goku’s legs. 105
  • He can inflate his abdomen into a soft, swamp-like mass that draws opponents into his body. 106
  • Goku escapes Buu’s body by releasing a powerful energy blast from within. 106
  • Roger identifies the liquid produced by Buu’s body as capable of wrapping around and absorbing targets. 103

Ki Manipulation and Combat

Buu combines overwhelming physical power with energy attacks and extreme speed.

  • He defeats Super Saiyan II Vegeta through superior speed and strength. 104 105
  • He trades extended blows with Super Saiyan III Goku and withstands Goku’s energy barrages and Kamehameha. 105 106 107
  • He fires pink energy waves and can launch his body as a high-speed projectile. 106 107
  • His energy is powerful enough to be sensed across Earth and recognized by East Supreme Kai from Supreme Kai World. 103
