Background

Super Saiyan was originally regarded as a legendary Saiyan warrior said to appear only once every thousand years. North Kai presents Roger as such a warrior to East Supreme Kai and Kibito, though Roger clarifies that “Super Saiyan” is a transformation rather than an individual title 20.

While still on Planet Vegeta, Roger created the Super Saiyan Cultivation Method. The method draws out a Saiyan's hidden potential when their instinct to survive becomes overwhelming; rage can also trigger immense Saiyan power 2. Much later, Roger states that any Saiyan can become an ordinary Super Saiyan through rigorous training, challenging the earlier belief that the form was unique to a millennial legend 121.

Appearance

In its ordinary form, Super Saiyan changes a Saiyan's hair and eyebrows to gold, makes the hair stand upright except for the bangs, turns the pupils light green, and surrounds the user with a golden aura 26.

Standard Transformation

Super Saiyan greatly raises a Saiyan's combat ability, speed, and ki output. Roger overwhelms Kibito with speed and technique after being identified as a Super Saiyan, while Son Goku and Vegeta use the form as a standard combat state against powerful opponents 20 65 71.

• Can be awakened through high-intensity training, survival instinct, or rage 2 121.
• The ordinary form can be maintained with control; Kale learns it specifically because it is less likely to cause loss of control than the Legendary Super Saiyan form 173.
• Full-power Super Saiyan is achieved by continuing to raise the standard form's aura 33.

Standard Ascensions

Super Saiyan II manifests with more sharply raised hair, a fiercer flame-like aura, and lightning crackling around the user 33. Super Saiyan III lengthens the user's hair to the waist, removes the eyebrows, and produces a fixed golden radiance with extensive lightning 101.

• Super Saiyan III can cause severe environmental damage during transformation 101.
• Super Saiyan III consumes excessive stamina; Son Goku cannot sustain it long enough to overcome Majin Buu's regeneration 107.

Great Ape Path

One Super Saiyan route incorporates the Great Ape transformation. A Saiyan must transform under a full moon to reach Super Saiyan 4; the Great Ape form multiplies normal-state power by ten 58.

• Roger transforms into a Golden Great Ape before reaching Super Saiyan 4 59.
• Super Saiyan 4 grants Roger greater power than Super Saiyan Rosé, though their speed is approximately equal 59.
• Rigor and the Xeno Timeline versions of Son Goku and Vegeta also use Super Saiyan 4 137 202.

Divine Transformations

The second transformation route uses Super Saiyan God as a base. Super Saiyan God is achieved by converting internal ki into God Ki, while Super Saiyan Blue applies Super Saiyan power on that divine foundation 59 131 146.

• Super Saiyan Rosé is Roger's divine Super Saiyan form; its rosé aura is a single color because Roger's soul has become divine 57.
• Super Saiyan Red converts Super Saiyan 4's ki into God Ki, but its stamina drain exceeds that of Super Saiyan 4 59.
• Super Saiyan Blue has sky-blue hair and eyebrows, deep-blue pupils, a layered blue-and-white aura, and particles associated with God Ki 146.
• Son Goku can layer the King Kai Fist over Super Saiyan Blue, creating a red aura around his blue one 146 159.

Legendary Super Saiyan

Legendary Super Saiyan is a distinct, unstable variant associated with Broly and Kale. Roger identifies Broly as possessing this transformation but notes his lack of control 118.

• Broly's power can emerge through rage and survival instinct, including a Humanoid Great Ape state with green aura and golden pupils 118 119.
• Kale's Legendary Super Saiyan form previously caused her to attack Caulifla and Cabba uncontrollably 173.
• Kale later masters an ordinary Super Saiyan form as a safer alternative 173.
