Background / History
The Wang Family is a large, prosperous branch family associated with the Marquis Ying Residence. Its patriarch Wang Yan had seven sons, and their descendants, together with Wang Yan’s cousins’ lines, expanded the family to more than one hundred descendants by Wang Chen’s generation. Limited resources forced the family to concentrate cultivation support on members with superior talent, while ordinary disciples received comparatively basic training 1.
By the time Wang Chen returns after three years of growth, the family numbers more than three hundred people. Most adult members possess at least Soul Elder cultivation; direct descendants generally have Innate Soul Power of Level Five or higher, while Soul Sages are comparatively scarce 44. The family’s younger generation is unusually promising, including three geniuses with Innate Soul Power Level Nine 60.
Under Wang Yan, the family openly backed Second Prince Xu Tianyu in the imperial succession struggle. The decision was made in hopes that Xu Tianyu’s eventual support would help Wang Yan reach the Titled Douluo realm, but it exposed the entire clan to danger if Xu Tianyu lost 6 8. Many elders opposed this involvement, regarding it as an unnecessary risk created by Wang Yan’s personal ambitions 60.
Organization and Resources
- The family is led by a patriarch and has twelve elders involved in major clan decisions 63.
- It maintains a Martial Arts Arena and Trial Field for internal competitions and combat assessments 18 63.
- Its Treasure Vault stores valuable cultivation rewards, including Soul Bones 23.
- The family produces and uses Soul Tools, including defensive formations, armor, weapons, and rare-metal equipment 91.
- It possesses significant rare-metal reserves; more than half of its accumulated top-grade rare metals were used to forge Wang Chen’s eighth-level peak Soul Tool spear 91.
- Its defensive capability includes Soul Tool formations and elders operating perimeter Soul Tools against intruders 91.
- The family cannot field military-style Linked Soul Tools, though Wang Yan notes that such equipment would let its members contend with a Titled Douluo through coordinated attacks and defenses 91.
Family Competition
The Wang Family Competition is held publicly before the clan to select its strongest and most outstanding young member. The first-place winner receives focused resource allocation and priority access to valuable family resources 18.
The competition includes Soul Tool crafting and combat rounds. During Wang Chen’s competition, more than one hundred young disciples participated; only thirty-six advanced beyond the crafting round after producing at least a Second Grade Soul Tool 20.
| Result | Competitor | Outcome |
|---|---|---|
| First place | Wang Chen | Defeated Wang Teng and Wang Mengting, then received a Soul Bone from the Treasure Vault 23 |
| Major contender | Wang Teng | A Three-Ring Soul Elder with an optimal yellow-yellow-purple ring configuration; defeated by Wang Chen 20 22 |
| Challenger | Wang Mengting | Accepted Wang Chen’s challenge but was defeated 22 23 |
Wang Chen’s victory prompts the family to invest heavily in him as its foremost young genius 22 25.
Wang Chen’s Rise Within the Family
After winning the Family Competition, Wang Chen receives the family’s highest-tier treatment:
- A monthly allowance of 100,000 Gold Soul Coins 25.
- A personal guard squad 25.
- The Young Master Token, a sixth-grade triggered rechargeable defensive Soul Tool 25.
- High-grade nutritious meals made from century-old soul beasts and herbs, far superior to the provisions available to ordinary family members 25.
- Focused cultivation resources intended to help him reach the Titled Douluo realm 25.
Wang Chen later seeks to replace Wang Yan, believing the patriarch’s position would allow him to secure the loyalty of the family’s hundreds of blood-related Soul Masters and Soul Engineers 44. Elder Wang Yuan and First Elder Wang Lu ultimately support his bid after witnessing his strength 59 62.
At a family meeting, the First Elder and five other elders nominate Wang Chen for patriarch. Wang Chen defeats Wang Yan in three moves through Ring Explosion and succeeds him as clan head 63. Wang Yan subsequently accepts his defeat and agrees to follow Wang Chen’s orders, including continuing to manage the family’s relationship with Second Prince Xu Tianyu 68.
Political Involvement
Support for Xu Tianyu
Wang Yan’s decision to support Xu Tianyu defines the family’s early political position. The family becomes marked as one of the Second Prince’s backers, leaving it vulnerable to retaliation from rival factions 8.
After Wang Chen becomes patriarch, he does not immediately sever these ties. Instead, he orders Wang Yan to continue handling the connection to Xu Tianyu, judging that the family still cannot safely withdraw from the succession struggle 68.
Xu Tianyu eventually becomes Crown Prince. By then, the Wang Family has become one of the Sun and Moon Empire’s top families because of Wang Chen, making its members less dependent on the political rewards of Xu Tianyu’s elevation 116.
Holy Spirit Cult Attack
The Holy Spirit Cult targets the Wang Family to weaken Xu Tianyu’s support. Masked Douluo intends to kill the patriarch, First Elder, and other key elders, thereby crippling the clan’s ability to aid the Second Prince 90.
He sends subordinates to steal the family’s rare metals, controls the Tenth Elder through parasitic maggots, and uses him to spy on the family’s internal arrangements and defenses 90. The family prepares a trap after discovering the threat, positioning its clansmen and activating its Soul Tool defensive formations 91.
The attack fails. Wang Chen kills the Titled Douluo-level Evil Soul Master, protecting the family and greatly elevating its reputation 93 115.
Development Under Wang Chen
With Wang Chen as patriarch, the family’s status rises rapidly. His personal strength, political connections, and status as Kong Deming’s disciple make the family difficult for other forces to threaten 115.
The family later gains access to greater resources and influence. Its members improve their cultivation through the expanded support available to them, while outside forces increasingly seek to curry favor with the clan 185.
By the later period, no family or sect in the Sun and Moon Empire apart from the imperial family dares disregard the Wang Family. Its resource base grows in a self-reinforcing cycle: greater status brings more resources, resources strengthen its members, and that strength brings further gains 185.
Two Wang Family members eventually enter the Cabinet, and the family commands the empire’s most elite Soul Engineer Legion, marking the fulfillment of Wang Chen’s promise to bring the family to the pinnacle of the Sun and Moon Empire 204.
