Background / History
The Sun and Moon Empire was a major power centered on Mingdu. Its military advantage came from its highly developed soul tool technology, while its Soul Master cultivation lagged behind the Douluo Three Kingdoms and Shrek Academy due to Soul Engineers treating Soul Power chiefly as fuel for Soul Tools. This imbalance contributed to its lack of native Super Douluo above Rank 95 at the time. 99
Under Emperor Xu Jing, the imperial succession became a contest between the First Prince Xu Tianran, Second Prince Xu Tianyu, and Third Prince Xu Tianshi. The empire's leading experts initially avoided declaring support, as choosing the losing claimant risked a purge. Xu Jing allowed the princes to compete within limits but prohibited them from involving Ninth Level Soul Engineers. 6 17
Xu Jing named Xu Tianran Crown Prince, relying on the imperial family's command of the Five Great Nation Protecting Soul Engineer Corps and the Palace Worship Hall to prevent opposition. Xu Tianran intended to conquer the Douluo Three Kingdoms and rename the continent the Sun and Moon Continent. 35 36
The empire's strategic position increasingly depended on Wang Chen and Kong Deming. After Wang Chen killed a Titled Douluo-level Evil Soul Master in Mingdu, Xu Jing identified him as a potential future pillar of the state; later, Kong Deming accepted him as a personal disciple. 93 99 114 115
When Wang Chen’s strength surpassed the empire’s existing power structure, he defeated its foremost Soul Engineer forces and seized effective control. Xu Jing was placed under a Master-Servant Contract, the imperial defenses passed to Wang Chen, and a member of the imperial family was installed as emperor while Jing Hongchen and several Ninth Level Soul Engineers served as regents. 187 188 190
Wang Chen subsequently launched a unification war. The Sun and Moon Empire absorbed the Star Luo, Heaven Soul, and Douling Empires, while their royal families, top sects, and other forces that refused submission were eliminated. Wang Chen became emperor of the unified continent. 195 202
Twenty years after unification, the empire was described as flourishing. Its ruling structure included a ten-member Cabinet, with Wang Family members holding Cabinet positions and commanding the most elite Soul Engineer Legion. 204
Government and Political Structure
- Emperor — The traditional ruler held authority over the Five Great Nation Protecting Soul Engineer Corps and the Palace Worship Hall. 36
- Imperial family — The Xu family ruled before Wang Chen’s takeover; it retained formal political relevance after submitting to him. 189 190
- Regents — After the takeover, Jing Hongchen and several Ninth Level Soul Engineers were appointed to exercise broad authority over state affairs. 190
- Cabinet — By the period twenty years after unification, the empire had a ten-member Cabinet at the center of government. 204
- Palace Worship Hall — A major institution housing Titled Douluo-level consecrators and serving as a center for high-level Soul Tool research. 92 114
- Mingde Hall — Led by Jing Hongchen; it was influential among the empire’s Soul Engineers. 115 188
Military
Five Great Nation Protecting Soul Engineer Corps
The empire’s five national-protection corps could link the Soul Power of thousands of Soul Engineers. Their combined offensive and defensive capacity surpassed that of a Rank 98 Super Douluo; the Sun and Moon Royal Soul Engineer Legion could exceed a Rank 99 Limit Douluo in both respects. 187
- Imperial Dragon Soul Engineer Legion — Defended Mingdu and investigated major Soul Power incidents, foreign invasions, mass casualties, and large-scale destruction. Its commander was Xu Tianyuan. 64 92
- Sun and Moon Royal Soul Engineer Legion — One of the empire’s two pillars alongside the Palace Worship Hall. It had slightly more than 300 members, including several Ninth Level Soul Engineers; only Kong Deming could command it. 154
- Evil Monarch Soul Engineer Legion — Commanded by Wang Yihang. 188
- Terror Claw Soul Engineer Legion — Commanded by Liao Mengkai. 188
- Fire Phoenix Soul Engineer Legion — Commanded by Luan Feng. 188
High-Energy Compression Array Soul Tool
The High-Energy Compression Array Soul Tool was the empire’s principal fixed defense system.
- One array could store Soul Power equivalent to that of one hundred Titled Douluo. 94
- Mingdu possessed five arrays: one in each cardinal sector and one within the Imperial Palace. 94
- The arrays were extremely costly, heavy, slow to charge, and required years to recharge after depletion, limiting them to defensive use. 94
- When activated together, the five arrays formed a defensive field over Mingdu and could charge tens of thousands of Soul Tools. 187
- Wang Chen seized the system after his takeover, later moving the Imperial Palace array to the Wang Family. 190 191
Soul Tool Technology
The Sun and Moon Empire was technologically ahead of the neighboring kingdoms and Shrek Academy by centuries, potentially a millennium. Its advantage covered intelligence, attack, defense, mobility, and blockade in warfare. 99 111
- Humanoid Soul Tools — Developed under Kong Deming to address the empire’s deficiency in individual high-end combat power. A Ninth Level Soul Engineer equipped with one could rival a Super Douluo, while an Eighth-Level Soul Engineer could rival a Titled Douluo. 111
- Space Soul Tools — The empire’s research had advanced into Space Power, changing Shrek Academy’s assumptions about Soul Engineers’ capabilities. 126
- Silver Moon Divine Light Shroud — Kong Deming’s Space Soul Tool, capable of defense, transfer, restraint, and redirecting attacks into space. 114
- Lifebound Soul Tool Method — A technique recorded by Wang Chen that deeply merges a Martial Soul, heaven-and-earth power, and a Soul Tool. 117
Society and Development
After continental unification, the empire expanded soul tool technology into everyday life rather than restricting it to elite Soul Engineers and warfare. 202
- Soul tool plowing vehicles replaced manual hoeing in agriculture. 202
- Soul tool textile machines improved weaving efficiency. 202
- Infrastructure, road transport, agriculture, textiles, and animal husbandry underwent major development in the former three kingdoms. 202
- The annexed territories supplied rare-metal veins, cultivation resources, and cultivation knowledge, improving the empire’s prospects for producing stronger Soul Masters. 202
- The government planned political education, cross-migration, intermarriage, and widespread civilian Soul Tool use to integrate the populations of the four former states over generations. 191
Relationships
- Wang Chen — Became the empire’s dominant power after subduing its high-level officials and defenses; later became emperor following continental unification. 187 188 202
- Xu Jing — Emperor during the succession struggle and Wang Chen’s rise; he was forced under Wang Chen’s control after the takeover. 35 190
- Kong Deming — The empire’s strongest Soul Engineer and technological cornerstone; his research underpinned the state’s deterrence and military development. 94 114
- Wang Family — Rose to the pinnacle of the empire under Wang Chen, eventually holding Cabinet seats and command of the most elite Soul Engineer Legion. 185 204
- Holy Spirit Church — A hostile force whose members later defected to the empire, strengthening its high-end combat capability. 161 179 181
- Douluo Three Kingdoms — The Star Luo, Heaven Soul, and Douling Empires were conquered and absorbed during Wang Chen’s unification campaign. 195 202
Trivia
- Kong Deming’s importance to the empire was considered greater than the emperor’s: an emperor could be replaced, but no equivalent replacement for Kong Deming was believed to exist. 94
- Before Wang Chen’s takeover, the empire’s highest-level Soul Engineers were widely seen as pragmatic rather than unwaveringly loyal to the Xu imperial family. 188
- The empire’s original military superiority was not enough to guarantee victory in a continental war; Humanoid Soul Tools were developed specifically to close that gap. 111
