Within the Senju compound.
After listening to Senju Hashirama's explanation, Uzumaki Mito could not help but sigh.
"I never imagined the Uchiha and Senju had such a connection. Who knew what the Sage of Six Paths was thinking? Just because he favored his younger son, he passed the Ninja Creed on to Ashura. No wonder Indra refused to accept it."
"If the Sage of Six Paths had not been so unfair, the hatred between the Uchiha and Senju would not have continued for a thousand years."
As a traditional woman, Uzumaki Mito supported the eldest son, Indra. Not only in Konoha, but throughout the major clans of the ninja world, inheritance followed the system of succession by the legitimate eldest son. So long as the eldest legitimate son was not utterly incompetent, an heir would not be replaced lightly. At best, it would cause unrest within the clan; at worst, it could bring disaster upon the entire clan.
If virtue took precedence over seniority, you could call someone worthy while he could call someone else worthy. There was no unified standard for worthiness—it was a matter of perspective, and different positions meant different standards. Succession by the legitimate eldest son was different. Whoever was born first was obvious at a glance. The inheritance of the legitimate eldest son was the foundation of stability for all major clans.
Although the Hyuga Clan's branch family system was heavily criticized for being excessively harsh toward the branch families, it did indeed stabilize the Hyuga Clan. There was only one main family per generation, while everyone else belonged to branch families. Even twins like Hyuga Hiashi and Hyuga Hizashi were no exception. Because Hizashi had been born just a few minutes later, he became part of the branch family. This main family system of the Hyuga Clan completely cut off any improper ambitions among the other clan members.
The Uchiha and Senju should have lived in harmony, yet they ended up with brothers turning against one another. The Sage of Six Paths was too distant from them, and no one knew what circumstances had existed then. But judging by the outcome alone, Indra, as the eldest son, should have inherited the Ninja Creed. Senju Hashirama also rather supported succession by the legitimate eldest son.
Although Senju Hashirama possessed great love, his thinking was still bound by the limitations of his era. Or perhaps it was something anyone in power had to learn: making choices and sacrifices. In the original story, when Uchiha Madara left, there were things Senju Hashirama could have done but did not. There was no reason Uchiha Madara could see through matters that Senju Hashirama could not. Yet for the stability of the greater whole, he still chose to sacrifice the Uchiha Clan and exiled them to the Police Force.
There was also the Hyuga Clan. Their main family and branch family system was not abolished until Naruto became Hokage. That also showed, from another angle, that neither Senju Hashirama nor Senju Tobirama had ever interfered with the Hyuga Clan's branch family system.
Konoha White Palace.
Ever since Senju Tobirama learned of the origins shared by the Senju and Uchiha, he had deliberately begun avoiding Uchiha Yui. He did not want Uchiha Izuna to laugh at him. If he became the Uchiha Clan's son-in-law, how could he still curse them as "evil Uchiha"?
Senju Tobirama's deliberate avoidance during this period left Uchiha Yui heartbroken. Although her initial contact with Lord Tobirama had indeed been on Lord Yan's orders, their time together had allowed her to see Lord Tobirama's hardship and exhaustion. Lord Tobirama carried the entire Senju Clan on his shoulders. He devoted himself to the Senju and rose early and slept late for Konoha. Though Lord Tobirama's words were never forgiving, he had never truly made things difficult for her.
That day, Uchiha Yui brought Senju Tobirama a new dish Uchiha Yan had taught her to make.
"Lord Tobirama, this is a new dish I made—carp with baked noodles, Uchiha style. Please give it a try."
Senju Tobirama could not stand hearing the word "Uchiha" now. The moment he heard it, he thought of Izuna's irritating face. Without even raising his head, Tobirama said, "Leave it there."
Senju Tobirama had always judged people, not matters. His targeting of the Uchiha had only ever been directed at annoying people like Uchiha Madara, Izuna, and Yan. He was still fairly open-minded toward the other Uchiha.
"Alright, Lord Tobirama. Please eat it while it's hot. The fish will become fishy once it cools." Uchiha Yui set the plate on the table. Seeing that Tobirama ignored her, she walked away in disappointment.
Only after Uchiha Yui's footsteps gradually faded into the distance did Senju Tobirama raise his head, then lower it again and continue writing. In the end, Tobirama finished the entire plate of fish.
Within the Senju compound.
Senju Tobirama had not neglected his human experiments during this period. However, after learning of the connection between the Senju and Uchiha, he felt he had found a new direction for his research. "When two opposing forces interact, All Things in Nature can be attained." It referred to the Senju and Uchiha. Although Izuna was unreliable, he had said one thing correctly: the Senju and Uchiha needed to be combined. Not through a union between man and woman, but through fusion at the cellular level.
Senju Tobirama had already begun imagining the day he developed controllable Hashirama cells and mass-produced Wood Release. When that happened, every member of the Senju Clan would wield Wood Release. He wanted to see how the Uchiha could remain so arrogant then. Senju Tobirama was not trying to prove how remarkable he was. He wanted to tell the Uchiha that whatever the Senju had lost, they would take back.
After Senju Tobirama left the underground laboratory, the space within it suddenly twisted.
Uchiha Yan stepped out of the Kamui dimension.
Poor Senju Tobirama had always believed that no one knew about his secret experiments. Little did he know that under Kamui, Konoha held no secrets in Uchiha Yan's eyes.
Uchiha Yan walked over to the desk and flipped through Senju Tobirama's experimental records. As expected, human research still required Orochimaru. At present, Senju Tobirama had made no progress in his research on Hashirama cells, which remained uncontrollable. He had tried all sorts of culture medium ratios, but without exception, every one had been eroded.
He would not dare put something so dangerous into his own body. He did not possess Indra's chakra. If he truly copied Uchiha Madara and stitched a piece of Senju Hashirama's flesh onto a wound, forget awakening the Rinnegan—his Mangekyo would be ruined.
It was a pity Orochimaru had not been born yet. Otherwise, it would have been perfect to bring him over. If Senju Tobirama was a research genius, then Orochimaru was a genius and a madman. Orochimaru not only dared to experiment on others, but was also ruthless enough to experiment on himself. In the original story, Orochimaru could no longer even be considered human; his true body had become a White Phosphorus Great Snake. Moreover, Orochimaru's research into Hashirama cells had truly succeeded, though Yamato had been the only survivor. Konoha's prosthetic limbs in the later period had also been upgraded from Orochimaru's research.
There was another way to make Senju Hashirama's cells perfectly compatible with his body: use White Zetsu to neutralize the Hashirama cells. Only then could the problem of Hashirama cells eroding and assimilating their host be perfectly resolved. In the original story, half of Obito's body had been destroyed, so Uchiha Madara used White Zetsu infused with Hashirama cells to replace the missing half. What began as a disaster became a blessing. Not only could Obito use his Mangekyo freely, but relying on Kamui, he entered the Kage level directly. More than that, Obito could even use a simplified version of Wood Release.
Unlike the original story, where White Zetsu was everywhere, not a single White Zetsu existed anywhere in the ninja world at present.
