Background / History

Ning Rongrong is the heir to the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect and the daughter of its sect master, Ning Fengzhi. Her father arranged for her to study at Heaven Dou Royal Academy, partly so she could build ties with its exceptional students and partly so that her willful temperament would be tempered by setbacks outside the sect. Politically, Ning Fengzhi also viewed her association with Qin Qi's circle as a way for the sect to maintain connections on both sides of the imperial succession 46.

Ning Fengzhi had already considered letting her experience life outside the sect after observing Qin Qi’s abilities. He noted that Rongrong was approximately Qin Qi’s age and had recently complained that life in the sect was boring 41.

Before enrolling, Rongrong watched Heaven Dou Royal Academy’s exchange matches. Qin Qi’s solitary stand against Skywater Academy’s Ice Phoenix fusion technique, as well as his poem and appearance, deeply impressed her. She immediately decided to transfer to Heaven Dou Academy 50.

Rongrong is proud, assertive, and accustomed to using the authority of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect to get what she wants. She expects obedience from others, calls her coerced guide “lackey,” and initially assumes wealth or sect resources can recruit anyone to her side 58 59.

She is highly competitive and refuses to accept being dismissed as weak. After Yu Tianheng rejects her because she is an auxiliary-type Soul Master, she hires more than twenty students to attack him and supports them with her pagoda, only to see them all defeated 59.

Despite her arrogance, she is emotionally affected by genuine displays of courage and strength. Qin Qi’s battle against Skywater Academy inspires admiration rather than fear, and she values his perceived cultural refinement as much as his combat prowess 50. Still angry over the lake incident, Rongrong asks Ning Fengzhi to provide several Soul Kings as escorts for her return to the academy. When she arrives with them, Qin Qi and his friends are absent, having gone to Blazing Fire Academy to collect tournament prizes 62 63.

Noble Youth Harassment Incident

While waiting at the academy for Qin Qi’s group to return, Rongrong is invited out by noble students who seek favor with the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect. She sees through their staged rescue plot, but the hired thugs attack her after the scheme is exposed. Qin Qi and his companions return in time to protect her and defeat the attackers 70 71.

Although she immediately complains about having waited all day to take revenge on Qin Qi, Rongrong joins Dugu Yan and the others on another shopping trip. She provides Seven-Colored Glazed Bracelets for Dugu Yan and Ye Lingling while privately struggling to thank Qin Qi for saving her 71.

Rongrong learns at the celebration feast that Qin Qi helped Ning Fengzhi evolve his Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda into the Nine Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda. Although upset that Qin Qi left her behind after she cared for him, she thanks him for helping her father and learns that she may attempt the evolution herself after her cultivation improves 127.

Heart Separation Control Training

Ning Fengzhi teaches Rongrong and Qin Qi the sect’s Heart Separation Control technique. Qin Qi comprehends the first stage nearly immediately, exposing the gap in their learning speeds and leaving Rongrong frustrated 128.

Bone Douluo’s warning that Qin Qi will continue moving beyond her gives Rongrong a new determination. She requests help with cultivation, practices buffing Qin Qi’s martial souls, and persists even after repeated failures 129.
