Personality

Hongjun is composed when faced with uncertainty, but intensely controlling when his plans are threatened. When the Kongtong Seal disappeared, he calmly explained that the turmoil of the Investiture of the Gods Tribulation had obscured even his deductions. 5

He is a long-range strategist who treats the tribulation as essential to his larger objective. He accelerates Great Zhou's military preparations, distributes resources and treasures, recruits outside races, and repeatedly orders his disciples to destabilize Great Shang. 35 100 160

His authority is backed by coercion. Hongjun stripped Tongtian Sage of his Primordial Violet Qi after Tongtian refused to support Zhou, and later threatened the stability of the Yin and Yang realms by detonating the Reversal Divine Stele when his demands were rejected. 125 126 155

History

Investiture of the Gods Tribulation

Hongjun initiated the Investiture of the Gods Tribulation, with Great Shang and Tongtian Sage's Interception Sect identified as its principal targets. He directed Supreme Purity Sage and Yuanshi Tianzun to strengthen Great Zhou, provide its forces with resources and magical treasures, and prepare for the campaign against Shang. 2 35

After Yuanshi Tianzun clashed with Patriarch Bodhi, Hongjun forced Yuanshi to apologize. He warned his disciples that Bodhi might be as strong as—or stronger than—himself, but insisted that the tribulation continue without interruption. 52

Hongjun also ordered the completion of Great Zhou's Investiture Altar, explaining that only once the Investiture of the Gods List was placed atop it would fallen experts' true spirits begin ascending to the list. 52

Conflict with Great Shang

When the white-masked experts appeared at Sishui Pass, Hongjun was prevented from reaching the battlefield by Patriarch Bodhi. Afterward, he called for the battle to end and learned that Great Shang possessed five young cultivators of the Eighty-Nine Mystic Art at Great Luo Golden Immortal perfection. 98 99

He responded by expanding his side's involvement in the tribulation. Hongjun ordered the five Heavenly Dao Sages to send their Three Corpse incarnations or external avatars to support Great Zhou, demanded that other races join the conflict, and ordered that Interception Sect disciples be suppressed without mercy. 100

When Tongtian Sage openly supported Great Shang, Hongjun demanded that he kneel, apologize, and swear to aid Zhou. Tongtian refused; Hongjun subsequently extracted his Primordial Violet Qi, reducing him from the Heavenly Dao Sage Realm to the Quasi-Sage Realm. 124 125 126

Flower-Fruit Mountain and Netherworld Hell

Hongjun sought the Five-Colored Divine Stone after determining that it was the true body of the Spirit-Illuminated Stone Monkey, one of the Four Monkeys of Chaos. He believed that gathering all four monkeys could awaken the Chaos Demon Ape. 143

Although Hongjun successfully broke the Heavenly Dao seal around the stone, Di Xiao and Patriarch Bodhi stopped him from taking it. Patriarch Bodhi then overwhelmed Hongjun in direct combat, and Hongjun escalated the conflict by deploying the Dao-Ruling Brush and Sage-Slaying Thunder. 144 145 146

In Netherworld Hell, Hongjun intervened in the battle against Houtu by suppressing the Earthly Dao. When Di Xiao, Di Xuan, and Houtu refused his demands, he detonated the Reversal Divine Stele, causing Yin and Yang spacetime to collapse toward chaos. Di Xin's Primordial Sacred Talisman and the Great Dao's power restored order. 151 155 156

Alliance with the Three Supreme Experts

Following his injury and the Netherworld Hell crisis, Hongjun accepted the aid of Hongyu, Hun Jue, and Yuan Yi. In return, he agreed to create as much chaos as possible within the Primordial World and commanded allied races to assault every Great Shang pass. 158 160

The Genesis Ancestor later instructed him to focus on breaking through to the Chaos Infinity Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal Realm rather than investigating the vanished Netherworld Blood Sea. Hongjun entered deep seclusion and ultimately completed the breakthrough. 186 189 202

Assault on Great Shang

After breaking through, Hongjun was ordered to join the black-robed expert against Di Xin and to test whether the Universe Ancestor was secretly supporting Great Shang. 202 203

Hongjun descended upon Great Shang's Central Province, declared humanity's resistance to the Heavenly Dao unforgivable, and attempted to destroy the Nine Provinces through the Heavenly Dao's Eye. Di Xiao intercepted him, blocked the divine lightning with the Invincible Domain, and overwhelmed the Creation Jade Disc. 204

Trapped in sealed spacetime, Hongjun burned the origin of the Creation Great Dao to reach the peak early stage of the Chaos Infinity Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal Realm. Even after deploying multiple Creation Great Dao techniques, he was forced to escape toward Purple Firmament Palace. 205 207
