Background / History
Kashimo initially pursued strength for practical reasons: weakness meant being killed by intruders or losing access to the best food. As his reputation grew, a challenger asked whether he had always been strong or had become strong later. Kashimo spared him, but the question remained with him throughout his life 18.
His growing power changed his relationships. Neighbors and childhood friends began treating him with fear and reverence rather than familiarity. When the challenger returned and questioned whether he had spent time with anyone in the preceding decade, Kashimo killed him. He increasingly viewed weaker people as indistinguishable trees or easily crushed clods of earth 18.
After a friend died from a Cursed Spirit’s technique, Kashimo left his village. He challenged powerful opponents while searching for an answer to whether strength inevitably meant loneliness. Near the end of his life, he accepted Kenjaku’s offer to become a Cursed Object and fight Sukuna in the future 18.
Appearance
Kashimo first appears in white robes, carrying a long staff, with his hair projecting upward like antlers 12.
- Hair: Pale blue; rises further when surrounded by his electrical Cursed Energy 14.
- Facial markings: Lightning-shaped marks that appear to crackle as his fighting spirit rises 14.
- Modern clothing: Wears a Uniqlo employee uniform when Xuan encounters him at work 107.
- Full transformation: Mythical Beast Amber covers his entire body in deep-purple Cursed Energy, leaves no flesh visibly intact, and produces a third eye on his forehead 118.
Personality
Kashimo is intensely competitive and values opponents who can force him beyond his limits. He complains that modern sorcerers offer little challenge, becomes visibly delighted during his fight with Xuan, and repeatedly demands rematches after losing to Yuta. He rejects the suggestion that an opponent should hold back against a woman, treating such restraint as false compassion 12 14 15 110.
Beneath his enthusiasm for combat is a persistent fear that strength makes meaningful relationships impossible. His original life leaves him unable to approach old friends as equals. After Xuan challenges this belief, Kashimo acknowledges the advice to make more friends and kill fewer people, though he remains troubled 18 19.
He also develops an easy, teasing rapport with Xuan and a mischievous approach to combat. He deliberately gives his Domain Expansion the same name as an anti-domain technique so that an opponent might misunderstand what he is about to do 107 108.
Abilities & Skills
Lightning-Property Cursed Energy
Kashimo’s electricity is an inherent property of his Cursed Energy, not his innate Cursed Technique 15.
- Electrical strikes: Even a punch that misses direct contact can injure an opponent through its lightning. Xuan observes that ordinary Cursed Energy defenses do not adequately block it 15.
- Charge accumulation: Deposits electrical charges through combat, then releases attacks that track the charged target with an effect comparable to a domain’s sure-hit 15.
- Delayed discharges: Leaves reinforced traces of Cursed Energy along his movement path and detonates them after a delay 15.
- Internal targeting: Accumulated charges allow attacks aimed at vital areas, including the brain and Cursed Energy core 15 17.
- Countermeasures: Xuan reduces the damage with Nue’s lightning and redirects a charged projectile using an electrical sphere 15 17.
Physical Enhancement and Close Combat
Kashimo combines staff fighting, grappling, punches, and kicks with electrical stimulation of his body 14 15 16.
- Electrical stimulation: Improves his strength, speed, reflexes, concentration, and Cursed Energy control 16 108.
- Dynamic vision: Can track lightning formed from Cursed Energy, though Xuan’s light-based movement initially exceeds his perception 16.
- Black Flash: Lands the attack repeatedly against Xuan, improving his condition and technique efficiency during their exchanges 15 16 17.
- Cursed Energy reserves: Xuan initially estimates his reserves at roughly 350% of the Gojo Clan head’s. During the final battle, his reserves are described as being on Sukuna’s level 15 119.
Reverse Cursed Technique
Kashimo uses Reverse Cursed Technique to repair severe wounds and sustain an increasingly destructive fighting style 15 16 17.
- Repairs deep chest wounds, spinal injuries, and severed hands 15 16 17.
- Uses regeneration to replace limbs deliberately detached as electrical projectiles 17.
- Initially struggles to repair accumulated lightning burns quickly enough; further Black Flashes improve his healing efficiency 16.
- Repairing damaged eyes and nerves can slow his other regeneration 17.
Mythical Beast Amber
Also called Phantom Beast Amber, Kashimo’s innate technique transforms his body through lightning-based Cursed Energy. He originally reserves it for the strongest opponent he will encounter, having never needed to reveal it during his original lifetime 15 17 110.
- Partial transformation: Alters selected body parts, including eyes, legs, and a scaled, clawed arm modeled on a Qilin 17.
- Electrical projectiles: Converts detached limbs into lightning weapons, including a charged javelin 17.
- Full transformation: Replaces his bodily appearance with deep-purple Cursed Energy and grants a third eye capable of observing Gen’s recovery 118.
- Bodily reconstruction: Rejoins a diagonally severed body and replenishes missing limbs with lightning 119.
- Brain restoration: Reconstructs his lightning-assimilated brain to escape technique burnout; later destroys and restores it to limit Chaos’s time-stretching effect 119.
- Limit: Transformation consumes his life. At full output, his continued existence depends on maintaining the technique; Gen’s eventual dispelling of it leaves him dying under the backlash of his binding 17 119.
Electromagnetic Constructs and Movement
At full transformation, Kashimo reshapes his body and the surrounding electrical energy into weapons and movement infrastructure 119.
- Forms cannon barrels in his mouth to fire repeated electric spheres 119.
- Creates an air intake behind his body and fires a compressed electromagnetic air cannon capable of breaking apart a barrage of Dismantle slashes 119.
- Accumulates electromagnetic energy in the ground, then raises it as tangible spikes 119.
- Travels between those spikes along electromagnetic routes, reaching light speed during the maneuver. Gen nevertheless intercepts him as he emerges 119.
Hollow Wicker Basket
Kashimo uses both the anti-domain technique and a Domain Expansion bearing the same name 107 108.
| Application | Function | Limitation / Distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Anti-domain technique | Neutralizes a domain’s sure-hit effect 107 108. | Maintaining its hand sign significantly reduces Kashimo’s mobility, leaving him vulnerable to Ryu’s manually aimed attacks 108. |
| Domain Expansion | Creates a thundercloud-filled domain that counters Ryu’s sure-hit and activates Kashimo’s own 108. | Acquired during the fight with Ryu. Kashimo deliberately chooses the misleading name afterward and incorporates its activation requirements into Hollow Wicker Basket through a Binding Vow 107 108. |
Qilin
Qilin is Kashimo’s final all-out attack, named after the phantom beast represented by his technique 119.
- Further amplifies Mythical Beast Amber and assimilates his entire body into thunderlight for a lightning-cloaked kick 119.
- Black lightning accompanies the strike 119.
- Shatters Gen’s defending arm, but Mahoraga’s completed adaptation allows Gen to use Phantom Beast Amber: Dismantle and disperse the attack before it can cause its intended damage 119.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Nyoi Staff / Ruyi Staff — Long staff used for strikes, thrusts, defensive blocks, and acrobatic kicks. Kashimo channels lightning through it, recalls it with electricity, and uses it as an anchor for charge-based attacks 14 15 16.
- Kogane — Culling Game interface through which he checks his points, learns new rules, and locates other players 12 14.
Relationships
- Xuan — Initially a sought-after opponent. After defeating Kashimo, Xuan heals him and challenges his belief that strength requires isolation. They later converse comfortably while shopping and training 14 18 19 107 110.
- Kenjaku — Arranges Kashimo’s conversion into a Cursed Object in exchange for the opportunity to fight Sukuna in the future 18.
- Sukuna — Kashimo’s original target for the ultimate battle. Later teaches him a fighting method used in his confrontation with Gen 12 18 118.
- Ryu Ishigori — Opponent whose Domain Expansion forces Kashimo to develop his own. Kashimo calls their battle a tie, although his new domain gives him the upper hand during their exchange 107 108.
- Kinji Hakari — Rival who becomes acquainted with Kashimo through combat. Their match is reported as a tie, though Hakari technically wins; they later compete for the right to enter the battle against Gen first 107 118.
- Yuta Okkotsu — Repeated sparring partner. Yuta leads their recorded matches 5–3, while Kashimo remains eager to continue 108 110.
- Gen / Zenin Xuan — Final opponent in the future-world confrontation. Gen adapts to Kashimo’s technique, answers his questions about humanity, and praises his final strike before he dies 113 119.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Culling Game and Encounter with Xuan
Kashimo enters the modern story with 90 points and little satisfaction from his opponents. Xuan’s new rule permitting travel between Colonies gives him reason to seek its author. Kashimo adds a player-information rule that includes names, scores, rules added, and current Colony; his displayed score is subsequently zero 12 14.
Recognizing Xuan as the Muromachi-period sorcerer recorded as Sukuna’s equal, Kashimo openly releases his Cursed Energy to invite a confrontation. Their fight escalates from staff and weapon exchanges to repeated Black Flashes, regeneration, and partial Mythical Beast Amber. Xuan ends it with Hollow Technique: Chaos 14 15 16 17 18.
Kashimo wakes on November 3, 2018, with Xuan healing him. Over meat pies, he asks how someone who became the strongest can live among ordinary people. Xuan insists that sorcerers are human first. Kashimo leaves considering whether he could have preserved his old friendships 18 19.
Modern Life and Training
- Works at Uniqlo after his battles with Ryu and Hakari, encountering Xuan and Yuta while they shop 107 108.
- Publicly reveals Xuan’s name and praises him as powerful enough to destroy a country alone, prompting a news report about sorcerers and the Culling Game 109.
- Becomes a subject of online power-scaling arguments, with viewers debating how his performance against Xuan compares with Sukuna’s strength 111.
- Repeatedly spars with Yuta under a rule that ends a match when the barrier collapses; their displayed score reaches three wins for Kashimo and five for Yuta 110.
Final Battle Against Gen
After Gojo and Sukuna are severely weakened, Kashimo enters first, having won that role against Hakari in rock-paper-scissors. His task is to delay Gen and obstruct his recovery while Gojo and Sukuna restore their condition through Black Flashes against jackpot-state Hakari 118 119.
Kashimo fully activates Mythical Beast Amber and continues developing it under near-death pressure. Despite his efforts, Gen adapts to its properties through Mahoraga. Kashimo’s final Qilin strike destroys only Gen’s arm before the technique is dispelled 119.
As Kashimo dies, Gen tells him that humans precede sorcerers, and that power need not prevent ordinary human relationships. Kashimo asks for an assessment of his final attack, receives the answer that it was “insanely strong,” and dissipates amid scattering electricity 119.
Legacy
- Technique inherited through adaptation: Mahoraga’s learning allows Gen to reproduce Phantom Beast Amber’s transformation principle, substituting black shadow for Kashimo’s lightning 119.
- Later defensive application: Kenjaku identifies Mythical Beast Amber as the reason contact with Gen’s transformed body does not reach his soul, preventing contact-based soul alteration. He distinguishes this from Mahito’s domain, which can affect a soul without contact 137.
