History

Before obtaining a Mangekyō Sharingan, Obito awakened part of Kamui's power and used it to enter Uchiha Madara's hidden location. Madara regarded the ability as exceptionally powerful, even by the standards of the Warring States era. 93

During the Kirigakure conflict, Obito used Kamui to send Uchiha Shisui into its separate dimension. Shisui deliberately allowed the transfer in order to investigate the technique and study the points at which Obito materialized. 141 145

While living in Kumogakure as Takayama Hizo, Obito avoided displaying Kamui or his Sharingan in order to preserve his cover. He rebuilt his combat style around conventional ninjutsu, Wood Release, and Lightning Release Chakra Mode rather than relying exclusively on Kamui. 255 326

Kamui remained Obito's principal escape method when facing Senju Muzoku and Uchiha Shingen, but Muzoku's sealing self-destruction technique interfered with its activation. Shingen subsequently marked, pulled in, and bound Obito before Madara enabled his escape. 350 352 357

After Obito was later imprisoned by the Uchiha Clan, Senju Hashirama drained the White Zetsu-derived power sustaining him. Shingen removed both of Obito's Sharingan intact before Obito died. 360 377

Abilities & Limitations

Dimensional Transfer

Kamui can transfer its user or another target into a separate space-time dimension.

• Obito sealed Shisui into the Kamui dimension by placing a hand on his shoulder; Shisui's Body Flicker Technique could not evade the transfer once it began. 141
• Obito attempted to draw Senju Muzoku into the dimension through the spatial distortion centered on his right eye. 350
• It provides rapid long-distance travel, allowing Obito to depart meetings and infiltrate locations without conventional travel routes. 247

Intangibility

Obito can transfer himself into the alternate dimension to let incoming attacks pass harmlessly through his body.

• He used this state to allow Senju Muzoku's shadow blades to pass through him. 350
• During battle, portions of his body appeared separately within the Kamui dimension as he phased between spaces. 145
• He could emerge from within physical obstacles, including Isobu's palm. 145

Right-Eye Activation

Obito could use Kamui through his original right eye without revealing the Mangekyō pattern.

• His disguise as Takayama Hizo included an additional three-tomoe Sharingan, but only his right eye could activate Kamui. 326
• Senju Muzoku noted that Obito possessed only one Mangekyō and judged a complete Kamui substantially more difficult to counter. 351

Constraints and Counters

• Repeated use places significant strain on Obito's body, leading him to avoid using Kamui again during his confrontation with Senju Muzoku. 350
