Background / History

Obito grew up near Uchiha Shingen; the two saw each other regularly and sparred from childhood. He became a Konoha chūnin before awakening his Sharingan. After the Battle of Kannabi Bridge, the clan believed he had died, while Kakashi retained one of his eyes 14 183 351 361.

Madara trained Obito after his disappearance. Obito rejected returning to Konoha, adopted Madara’s identity, and pursued the Eye of the Moon Plan, which required gathering the Tailed Beasts. He described the world as one that produced “trash” and wanted an imagined world in which Rin, his grandmother, Kakashi, and others could be happy 17 93 217.

Appearance

Obito concealed his identity with masks and later used White Zetsu cells to change his face 15 217.

• His replacement face was modeled on Senju Muzoku’s appearance to support a fabricated Senju ancestry 217 250.
• During his Kumogakure infiltration, Black Zetsu fitted him with a three-tomoe Sharingan; only his own right eye could use Kamui 326.
• By his imprisonment, he was disfigured and bore sealing marks across his face 361.

Personality

Obito remains committed to the Eye of the Moon even when his plans fail. He can be impatient when his disguises are challenged, but his six-year rise through Kumogakure shows that he can also sustain a long deception 15 245 358. He regards the plan as a way to spare Rin from returning to the world in which she died; he explicitly rejects reviving her into it 256.

His attachment to Rin persists beneath his detached manner. Aoi’s interest leaves him largely unresponsive, and he privately compares other women unfavorably with Rin 218.

Kamui

Kamui is Obito’s Mangekyō space-time technique, used for defense, movement, and transporting others 41 80 141 246.

• Attacks can pass through his body, and he can draw targets into a separate dimension 41 141 145.
• Repeated use strains his body; techniques that disrupt or seal ninjutsu can interfere with its use 350 352.
• With only his right Mangekyō, he judges Kamui sufficient to keep him safe from Shingen, but not to defeat him 246.

Sharingan Genjutsu

• Obito controlled Mizukage Karatachi Yagura and served as his ANBU head to maintain the deception 23 132.
• His genjutsu grew subtler under Madara’s instruction. Yagura nevertheless broke free and feigned continued control, while Shisui neutralized Obito’s attempt to reassert it 132 141.

Wood Release and Elemental Ninjutsu

• Produces branches and thorn forests for attack and restraint 16 326.
• After years of training and White Zetsu enhancements, wields all five elemental transformations and learns Kumogakure’s Lightning Release Chakra Mode 255.
• Rebuilds his fighting style so that he no longer relies on Kamui for every encounter 255 326.

Impure World Reincarnation

Obito obtains knowledge of Impure World Reincarnation through an exchange with Orochimaru and later uses the technique to summon historical shinobi as opponents for Minato 326 332.

• Uchiha Shingen — Childhood neighbor and sparring partner who repeatedly exposes Obito’s disguises. Shingen ultimately helps carry out his execution 14 351 376 377.

• Kirigakure manipulation: Obito uses Yagura to influence the village and cultivate useful pawns. When Yagura reveals that he has broken free, Obito’s confrontation with him, Shisui, and Shingen ends his control 23 141 145 146.
• Kumogakure infiltration: As Takayama Hizo, he rises from genin to captain over six years while maintaining contact with Black Zetsu and Dawn. Dodai later entrusts him with an investigation involving the attack on Konoha ANBU 245 256.
• Attack and capture: Obito’s use of Impure World Reincarnation contributes to the assault on Konoha. Senju Muzoku and Shingen subdue him, after which he is held in an Uchiha detention facility 332 352 360.
• Execution: The war council votes to execute him for helping instigate the war. He asks Shingen to complete the Eye of the Moon Plan, receives a refusal, and is executed by Hashirama and Shingen. Shingen retrieves the Sharingan from his body 376 377.
