Overview

Star Dou Forest is the largest gathering place for soul beasts on Douluo Continent. Its variety of soul beasts is stated to exceed that of all other soul beast habitats combined, making it a premier destination for soul masters seeking suitable soul rings. Unlike human-managed soul-hunting forests, its soul beasts have not been enclosed or raised by humans. 3

The forest is exceptionally dangerous: soul beasts are generally stronger than soul masters of the same level, and hunters must also be wary of other humans within it. The remoteness of nearby settlements reflects the threat of possible beast tides. 3 9

The forest possesses diverse terrain, distinct seasons, and exceptionally strong vitality. It provides environments suitable for most varieties of soul beasts, although habitats with extreme conditions, such as the Extreme North and deserts, are not represented. Its vegetation and soul beast diversity visibly exceed those of the Jingyang Mountain Range, while the Evil Forest is substantially smaller and less diverse. 73 103 133 141

The Emperor Auspicious Beast carries the fortune of the soul beast race and is central to the forest's long-term welfare. Di Tian believes that even extensive losses among ordinary soul beasts can eventually be recovered from while she remains safe. Her transformation into a human and subsequent partnership with Jiang Yue therefore become matters affecting the forest as a whole, rather than merely her personal affairs. 63 141 145 146

Regions

Soul Beast Population

• The forest contains most of the continent's soul beasts and is said to hold half of the Ten Great Ferocious Beasts. Aside from the ocean, it has the greatest number of hundred-thousand-year soul beasts. 3
• Spiritual-attribute soul beasts are scarce, especially in the outer region, forcing hunters seeking them to enter deeper and more hazardous territory. 3 6
• Dream Iceworm previously nourished many of the forest's powerful soul beasts with the heaven-and-earth essence in its body; several ferocious beasts had absorbed this essence for thousands of years. 6
• The Three-Eyed Golden Lion is regarded as the soul beast race's Emperor Auspicious Beast and is treated as the forest's beloved figure due to Di Tian's care for her. 44 46
• The forest can produce abnormal entities such as the Sealed Nether Wraith, an aggregate of soul beast resentment and lingering souls. Its presence causes nearby soul beasts to disappear from the area. 44 46
• Light-attribute soul beasts are relatively rare, with suitable ten-thousand-year specimens sought in the mixed zone. The Three-Eyed Golden Lion's former feeding habits have also contributed to their reduced numbers. Divine-attribute soul beasts are scarcely found anywhere in the forest. 133 134
• Time-attribute soul beasts are extraordinarily scarce. After repeatedly searching the entire forest, the Ten Thousand Demon King finds only one approximately two-hundred-year-old bird whose mutated bloodline has awakened an incomplete time attribute. 83 86
• Man Faced Demon Spiders are nearly extinct in the forest, while Dark Demon Evil God Tigers are virtually extinct. Both are considered harmful to other soul beasts: the former kill for amusement, while the latter cultivate through devouring them. 86 133
• No tiger-type soul beast in the forest exceeds hundred-thousand-year cultivation. Because the emergence of a Dark Demon Evil God Tiger is unpredictable, the ferocious beasts eliminate tiger-type soul beasts that grow too old, whether or not they have undergone that mutation. 86
• Golden Tortoises are extremely rare and possess an auspicious effect, though it is much weaker than the Emperor Auspicious Beast's. Their value to the forest means that Di Qiu’er cannot freely authorize their hunting without consulting Di Tian and the other senior beasts. 69 148

Hazards

• Soul beasts may attack without warning, and even a five- or six-hundred-year soul beast can be difficult for a Great Soul Master to defeat. 3
• The mixed zone requires extreme caution even from a Soul Sage such as the Maple Leaf City Lord. 6
• The Land of Great Peril is considered too dangerous for human forces to provoke; the Body Sect's slaughter of hundred-thousand-year soul beasts there previously led to a beast tide. The later account specifies that seven such beasts were killed, and that Shrek Academy stopped the resulting tide after it caused countless casualties. 44 161
• The forest's core region is especially dangerous because powerful ferocious beasts, including Di Tian, may detect intruders. 43 46
• Hunters face threats from other people as well as soul beasts, particularly around soul-hunting towns and within the forest itself. 3 9
• Unnaturally silent areas can indicate serious danger. During a later expedition, Jiang Yue's group discovers a broad region without soul beasts, tracks, or corpses. Jiang Yue suspects human activity resembling large-scale slaughter for Secret Art Soul Bones, but does not establish its precise cause. 133 134
• Holy Spirit Cult members operate within the forest despite its proximity to Shrek Academy. Their activities include attacks on hunting parties, destruction of vegetation and soul beasts, and hunting soul rings for their Holy Maidens. 138 140 141 153
• Entering the core region without suitable protection remains dangerous even when a visitor has been admitted by friendly inhabitants. Bi Ji warns Jiang Yue's companions not to leave the Emerald Swans' area without permission, since their soul tools cannot guarantee escape from the surrounding hundred-thousand-year soul beasts. 144 148
• Large-scale hunting of hundred-thousand-year soul beasts risks provoking another beast tide or even a war between humans and soul beasts. Long Xiaoyao consequently considers the ocean as an alternative source of Jiang Yue's future high-age rings. 161

Notable Inhabitants

• Dream Iceworm / Sky Dream Ice Silkworm — A million-year spiritual-attribute soul beast that hid in the forest after escaping the ferocious beasts that had drained its origin power. It later became bonded to Jiang Yue through its intelligent soul ring plan, with their final fusion reserved for his seventh soul ring. 6 7 8 161
• Three-Eyed Golden Lion / Di Qiu’er — The Emperor Auspicious Beast, whose Eye of Destiny leads her to pursue Jiang Yue through the mixed zone. • Purple Spirit Jackal — A spiritual-attribute, pack-associated soul beast slain by Jiang Yue for his first soul ring. 3

• Golden Turtle / Golden Tortoise — A hundred-thousand-year soul beast whose body contains Living Gold; its apparent cultivation and usable strength are reduced by the object tormenting it. It later appears to be only slightly over thirty thousand years old and is taken alive to the Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineer Academy for Xiao Hongchen's future soul ring. 42 148 153
• Di Tian — Beast God, the continent's foremost ferocious beast, and the forest's principal authority. He regards Di Qiu’er as his daughter, controls access to the Lake of Life, and asserts that the entire forest—not merely its core—is his domain. 63 83 140 141 145

• Ten Thousand Demon King — A senior ferocious beast who helps safeguard the Lake of Life and can observe every part of the forest. Di Tian assigns him to search for a time-attribute soul beast for Jiang Yue. 69 83 84 86
• Demon Spirit — An elusive mental-attribute ferocious beast ranked tenth among the Ten Great Ferocious Beasts. Even Di Qiu’er knows little about him. 83
• Xiong Jun / Bear Lord — A powerful ferocious beast whose strength is important to the forest. Although he has repeatedly challenged Di Tian and been severely beaten, Di Tian has not killed him; Di Qiu’er considers permission to take his soul ring highly unlikely without a greater benefit to the soul beast race. 68 146
• Scarlet King — A trusted protector whom Di Tian requires Di Qiu’er to take on subsequent journeys into the human world. He later remains hidden near her alongside the Ice Empress. 85 120
• Silver Dragon King — The sleeping being beneath the Lake of Life whom Di Tian guards. Until she awakens, Di Tian acts as the highest authority of the soul beast race. 109 141 145
• Emerald Swans — A rare gathering of healing-associated soul beasts inhabiting a jade-green lake in the core region. At least one hundred-thousand-year Emerald Swan is present and helps summon Bi Ji for the injured visitors. 142
• Heavenly Dragon Horse — An elderly light-attribute soul beast with pure Bright Holy Dragon blood and cultivation slightly above twenty thousand years. A childhood injury deprived it of its dragon wings; Bi Ji previously saved it and remains close to it. Di Qiu’er proposes preserving its soul through the Wisdom Soul Ring method rather than simply killing it for Ye Guyi's fifth ring. 134 135 136
• Mutated time-attribute bird — An injured, approximately two-hundred-year-old soul beast with a trace of Phoenix blood and an incompletely awakened time attribute. It is the only such beast located by the Ten Thousand Demon King's forest-wide search and supplies Jiang Yue's fifth soul ring. 86
• Ice Empress — A visiting ferocious beast from the Extreme North who receives permission to undergo her four-hundred-thousand-year heavenly tribulation in the core region. She survives after Di Tian's sword demonstration disperses the final tribulation lightning, and Bi Ji subsequently heals her. 83 84 85 86

Authority and Protection

Di Tian exercises authority throughout Star Dou Forest. Powerful visitors must respect his restrictions, as demonstrated when the Ten Thousand Demon King initially refuses the Ice Empress access to the Lake of Life. Di Tian subsequently permits her to face her tribulation in the core region but orders her to stay away from the lake and avoid hunting too many of the forest's soul beasts. 83 84 140

Despite her exceptional status, Di Qiu’er has limited administrative power. She explains that Di Tian and the senior ferocious beasts make decisions for the forest; Bi Ji or the Ten Thousand Demon King would take over its management before she would. Her importance lies primarily in the fortune she carries and the protection afforded to her, rather than unrestricted authority to dispose of rare soul beasts. 69

Di Tian's protection of the Emperor Auspicious Beast combines responsibility to the soul beast race with a parental attachment. He provides her with his Reverse Scale before her departure into the human world, later insists that the Scarlet King accompany her, and eventually modifies the scale so that it alerts him to danger and reveals her exact location. 63 85 146

Di Qiu’er's presence can make travel through the forest far safer for her companions, since other soul beasts hesitate to approach her. Her knowledge of local inhabitants also allows her to guide hunters directly toward suitable targets. This protection does not make the forest generally safe for humans, and she conceals her true identity from most members of the hunting party. 75 130 134 141 144

The confrontation with Zhongli Wu demonstrates the limits of human power within the forest. Di Tian rejects the Holy Spirit Cult leader's threats, destroys his Bone Dragon, pursues him after his escape, and kills him before he can retaliate against the forest's soul beasts. 140 141 142

Resources and Cultivation

• Living Gold — Jiang Yue's knowledge identifies a massive piece beneath the Lake of Life and another inside the hundred-thousand-year Golden Tortoise. He initially considers both inaccessible. 9
• Lake of Life's vital energy — Jiang Yue meditates beside the lake in the hope of accelerating his cultivation through its abundant life energy. 83
• Healing refuges — The Emerald Swans' lake provides an environment where injuries begin recovering rapidly, while Bi Ji offers additional healing and protection. 142 144
• Herbs and natural treasures — The forest contains medicinal herbs and rare heavenly treasures. Di Tian later considers using its treasures to extend Jiang Yue and Di Qiu’er's lives should Jiang Yue fail to become a god. 9 145

Documented Visits and Incidents

• Jiang Yue first enters the forest with the Mysterious Elder, later identified as Long Xiaoyao, to obtain his first soul ring. They travel into the mixed zone, where the elder captures a Purple Spirit Jackal that Jiang Yue kills and absorbs. 3 118
• Jiang Yue returns with the Maple Leaf City Lord to seek a spiritual-attribute second ring. The City Lord subdues a Nightmare Demon, after which Jiang Yue absorbs its thousand-year soul ring. 6
• During the same expedition, Dream Iceworm discovers Jiang Yue and fuses with him, establishing their intelligent soul ring partnership and later raising the age of Jiang Yue's first two soul rings. Their final soul ring fusion is reserved for his seventh ring. 7 8
• Before enrolling at Shrek Academy, Jiang Yue independently hunts in the outer region, encounters a thousand-year Soft-Boned Rabbit, and kills a thousand-year Datura Snake. 9 10

Although its aura suggests cultivation only slightly above thirty thousand years, Jiang Yue identifies it as a weakened hundred-thousand-year beast.
