Background / History

Danzo ambushed Shisui while attempting to recruit him, tore out his right Mangekyō Sharingan, and drove him to despair. Believing his death would buy time for the village and clan, Shisui entrusted his left eye to Itachi and leapt from a cliff into the Naka River. Zhengye, Inabi, and Tekka rescued him before he died. 1

Zhengye confronted Shisui with a vision of the Uchiha clan’s future extermination, arguing that Shisui’s suicide would leave Itachi vulnerable to Konoha’s influence and help enable the massacre. Overcome by guilt after witnessing the projected deaths of his clansmen, Shisui abandoned his wish to die and agreed to follow Zhengye’s efforts to save the clan.
