Background / History

The Uchiha Clan was once a major Warring States-era fighting clan. According to records Zhengye researched in the clan archives, it once fielded roughly 2,000 combatants; by the period when it made peace with the Senju and helped found Konoha, that number had declined to around 300. Zhengye attributes much of that decline to Madara's continued warfare against Hashirama and the clan's later loss of combat readiness under Konoha's Police Force system. 14

Following the Nine-Tails Disaster, the clan was relocated to Konoha's outskirts and lost its honorary elder seats. Its Police Force was burdened with routine public-security work while the Uchiha were repeatedly committed to front-line battles, creating resentment toward Konoha's leadership and support for radical action. 1 14 17

In Year 56 of the Leaf, Zhengye intervened when Shisui attempted suicide after Danzō stole one of his eyes. By saving Shisui and using the Plow—Experimental Version to show Shisui, Itachi, Inabi, and Tekka a future in which the clan was exterminated, Zhengye gained a core faction committed to changing that outcome. 1 3 5

The faction challenged Fugaku's leadership after returning from the future vision. Though Fugaku did not immediately resign, he appointed Zhengye as the Fourth Elder and granted him authority to mobilize the clan's combatants to reclaim Shisui's stolen eye. 8 9

The clan assaulted Root headquarters, captured Danzō, and publicly exposed the Sharingan implanted in his body. Under Zhengye's orders, Izumi removed the implanted eyes, including Shisui's, while Danzō's Hashirama Cell-modified arm was severed after transforming into a tree stump. 9 11 12

The ensuing political reversal enabled the clan to restore its representation in Konoha and undertake rapid reconstruction of the Uchiha district. The clan's growing commercial projects and public-utility plans also supported a population of more than a thousand Uchiha residents. 19 82 83

Political Position

Police Force Expansion

Zhengye proposed expanding the Uchiha Police Force rather than abandoning it. His plan delegated investigation and judgment to participating clans while retaining Uchiha responsibility for arrests and combat operations. 14

The expanded force incorporated members of the Hyūga, Ino–Shika–Chō, Aburame, Inuzuka, and other clans, reaching a total of 400 personnel. This bound other clans' interests to the Uchiha's position in Konoha. 18 24

Internal Defense Authority

As compensation for the Uchiha's relocation, Zhengye secured the authority to coordinate internal village defense. This gave the Police Force a role in counterespionage patrols, important-facility security, and emergency ANBU coordination. 14 18

The clan's honorary elder seat was later restored with support from Hyūga Hiashi, Nara Shikaku, and the other newly aligned clans. 19

The resulting changes weakened the old Konoha leadership bloc: Danzō was stripped of office and imprisoned, Root was disbanded, and Nara Shikaku became the Hokage's assistant. 43 57

External Strategy

The clan shifted from exclusive reliance on Konoha toward outside commercial and strategic partnerships. Hidden Cloud publicly entered commercial cooperation with the Uchiha, while Zhengye later offered Hidden Sand the clan's services as a mercenary force for suitable missions. 57 66 90

Through its partnership with Kumogakure, the clan obtained technical support for power generation, utility pipelines, and biogas facilities. Zhengye also ordered the planned biogas digester enlarged so that it could serve Konoha residents beyond the Uchiha district. 82

The clan promotes the Ironcutter weapon line through its external network, while Zhengye directed the profits from Ironcutter materials toward the clan itself. 66 86

Following Zhengye's intervention in Kirigakure, the clan also gained a potential strategic channel with Mizukage Karatachi Yagura and Hidden Mist's senior leadership. 117

Sharingan and Mangekyō Sharingan

The clan's Sharingan is its defining bloodline limit. By the Root conflict, five Uchiha had awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan, a concentration of ocular power that changed Konoha's assessment of the clan's military strength. 43 57
