Background & History
Hinata was initially regarded by Hiashi Hyuga as too weak to inherit the Hyuga Clan. At age eight, she was branded with the Caged Bird Seal, abandoned by the clan, and left to survive outside its protection. Naruto later removed the seal, and she began living, eating, and training with him. 4 55
Before this separation, Naruto saved her from a Hidden Cloud ninja attempting to kidnap her. Hinata embraced him after the encounter, beginning the bond that would become the center of both of their lives. 2
Living with Naruto gave Hinata access to training, encouragement, and forbidden clan knowledge. She helped infiltrate the Hyuga library, copied its scrolls, learned the Shadow Clone Technique well enough to create one clone, and resolved to prove that hard work could surpass inherited genius. 4
Appearance
Hinata is 1.65 meters tall, with fair skin, blue hair, and pale Byakugan eyes. Her hair later grows to her waist, while her former blunt bangs become shoulder-length locks. 63 89
- Dark blue hime-cut hairstyle in earlier descriptions 63
- Long blue hair and a mature, composed demeanor later in the story 89
- Commonly wears blue-and-white or dark-blue clothing; her mission attire can include samurai armor 89 150
- Uses a yin-yang symbol on the back of one blue-and-white jacket 89
- Often carries weapons and seals on her wrist for immediate deployment 26 151
Personality
Hinata begins as kind, timid, and deeply affected by rejection from her family. Naruto's protection and encouragement allow her to become more confident without abandoning her compassion. She chooses medical training because she prefers healing people to hurting them, while recognizing that killing can sometimes be necessary. 2 55 56
She is calm and analytical under pressure, frequently using the Byakugan, poisons, clones, and terrain to create decisive advantages. Her gentleness does not prevent ruthlessness toward those who threaten her family: she challenges Hiashi through clan law, cripples his arm after he endangers Hanabi, and abolishes the Caged Bird Seal upon taking control of the clan. 37 149 152
Hinata is especially protective of Hanabi and rejects the Hyuga Clan’s treatment of branch-family members. Her stated ideal is a clan in which strength is defined by conviction rather than bloodline or status. 135 152
Abilities & Skills
Byakugan and Gentle Fist
Hinata's Byakugan grants near-360-degree vision, allows her to observe chakra pathways and chakra flow, and supports her highly developed Gentle Fist style.
- Can close an opponent's chakra points, including all 361 points of Neji's chakra system 33
- Tracks enemies through mist and detects hidden chakra signatures 37 69
- Anticipates ninjutsu by observing chakra flow, even while her physical eyes are closed 207
- Uses Rotation as a chakra barrier capable of deflecting attacks such as Lava Release 32 207
- Cannot distinguish ordinary chakra traits from one another; tailed-beast chakra remains an exception 71
Hyuga Taijutsu
Hinata combines Gentle Fist precision with extraordinary physical strength and original close-range techniques.
- Eight Trigrams Vacuum Palm and Great Eight Trigrams Vacuum Palm create destructive compressed-air strikes 105 151
- Eight Trigrams One Hundred Twenty-Eight Palms targets and seals chakra points in rapid succession 37
- Heaven Kick of Pain creates devastating shockwaves and craters on impact 151 206
- Her strikes can destroy an Earth Release dragon and punch through an arena wall 207 210
- Uses chakra needles from her wrist seal to target joints, vital points, and chakra pathways 151
Water Release
Water Release is Hinata's strongest elemental affinity and the foundation of many of her offensive, defensive, stealth, and medical techniques. 56
- Uses Water Bullet, Water Explosion Bullet, Water Dragon Bullet, and Great Exploding Water Colliding Wave 26 37 94
- Creates Water Prison, Water Wall, Water Whip, and Water Clones 26 151 211
- Uses Hidden Mist Technique to conceal herself while retaining visibility through the Byakugan 37
- Can draw water from the air for large-scale techniques 93
- Her Endless Rain can absorb chakra from targets struck by the rain, replenishing her own chakra 105 213
Wind Release and Weapon Chakra
Hinata uses Wind Release to enhance weapons and overpower opposing Lightning Release chakra.
- Infuses blades with Wind chakra to shatter Karui's sword 26
- Uses Wind chakra to suppress Yugito Nii's Lightning-charged weapons 37
- Forms hair-thin chakra blades from her fingertips to cut apart explosive tags 219
Poisons and Covert Techniques
Hinata was trained by Shizune in poisons and uses them as a core part of her tactical style. 56
- Conceals sleeping poison in water needles, incapacitating Yugito Nii through mist-based ambushes 37
- Uses Poison Mist against Nao Uchiha 105
- Coats weapons with deadly poison, a trait noted in Konoha intelligence records 63
- Used poison to incapacitate an ANBU sensory ninja during the infiltration of the Uchiha compound 86
Medical Ninjutsu
Tsunade accepts Hinata as a disciple after learning of her expulsion from the Hyuga Clan. Hinata's chakra control and Byakugan make her especially suited to medical work. 55 56
- Learns the Mystical Palm Technique and can maintain it until her chakra is depleted 56
- Diagnoses chakra-pathway damage directly through the Byakugan 242
- Uses chakra needles to locate and expel poisonous chakra from Tsunade's pathways 243
- States that Sage Mode allows her to repair damaged organs and regenerate severed limbs within seconds 220
Sage Mode
Hinata's Byakugan enables her to see natural energy directly, giving her an unusual advantage in senjutsu training. 146
- Sage Mode enhances her physical abilities, medical ninjutsu, and chakra techniques 220
- Sage Art: Petrifying Eye injects senjutsu chakra into a target and petrifies them 153 220
- The Petrifying Eye only affects those Hinata judges to possess malicious intent 153
- Sage Art: Petrifying Rain blankets an area in petrifying rainfall but leaves her extremely weak while casting 173
- Senjutsu training is dangerous; loss of control over natural energy risks petrification 145
Genjutsu
Hinata has demonstrated genjutsu proficiency despite it not being listed in her intelligence profile.
- Incapacitates Shizune, Kurenai, Asuma, Kakashi, and Might Guy with genjutsu during a team test 95
- Helped place an ANBU ninja under genjutsu while infiltrating the Uchiha compound 86
