Background

Sasuke was raised believing that Itachi had slaughtered the entire Uchiha Clan, leaving him as its sole survivor. The truth was more complicated: Hiruzen had ordered Itachi to eliminate the clan to stop a coup, while Fugaku had secretly moved many clan members away and left replica bodies behind for Itachi to kill 140 141 142 246.

Fugaku later revealed himself to Sasuke and claimed responsibility for using the Nine-Tails attack as part of his effort to seize Konoha. Sasuke accepted his father's version of events and pledged himself to the Uchiha Clan's cause against Konoha and Itachi 81.

After Sasuke was captured, his chakra pathways were destroyed, preventing him from using ninjutsu. Tobi later extracted him from prison, while Orochimaru created a Sasuke clone from his blood for further experimentation 80 117 133.

Appearance

Sasuke is associated with the Uchiha Clan's traditional dark-blue clothing and crest. His appearance changes with his allegiances and transformations.

Personality

Sasuke is intensely proud of his Uchiha heritage and initially treats others with arrogance and contempt. He repeatedly measures himself against Naruto, whom he resents for possessing the Sharingan, Senju lineage, and power that Sasuke believes should belong to an Uchiha 14 34 49.

His central motivation is revenge against Itachi. This obsession drives him to defect from Konoha, murder Sakura to awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan, and accept Orochimaru's transformations. The pursuit of power progressively leaves him colder and less humane 73 75 156.

Before his death, Sasuke regrets the path he chose. He admits that he wanted to return to the time when he and Itachi were brothers, and dies acknowledging his love for Itachi 166.

Academy and Team Seven

Sasuke graduates alongside Naruto and is assigned to Team Seven with Sakura and Kiba under Kakashi. He remains dismissive of Naruto and competitive with his peers 5 9.

Chunin Exams

Rock Lee defeats Sasuke despite Sasuke activating his two-tomoe Sharingan, exposing the gap between visual perception and physical speed. Sasuke later faces Naruto in the tournament, where Naruto decisively demonstrates superior Sharingan knowledge and combat ability 20 34.

During a later spar, Sasuke unleashes his curse mark against Naruto and is defeated by Chidori Stream. The loss forces him to ask Naruto for help, though Naruto refuses to support his revenge 35 36.

Defection from Konoha

After Kakuzu easily defeats him during the Fire Temple mission, Sasuke concludes that Konoha cannot give him the power he needs. The Sound Four offer him Orochimaru's power, and he accepts 67 73.

Sakura attempts to stop him at Konoha's gate. Sasuke kills her, awakening the Mangekyō Sharingan, then leaves with the Sound Four 73 74.

Capture and Uchiha Allegiance

Naruto's team captures Sasuke after battling Orochimaru's forces. Sasuke's chakra pathways are destroyed, but Tobi later frees him from prison 79 80 117.

He reunites with Fugaku and learns that parts of the Uchiha Clan survived the supposed massacre. Sasuke chooses the clan over Konoha and commits himself to its revenge 81.

Orochimaru's Transformation and Final Battle

Orochimaru exploits Sasuke's desire to erase his painful memories, transforming him into a colder and less human version of himself 156.

Sasuke confronts Itachi at the Uchiha secret base. Their battle becomes a three-way conflict after Orochimaru attempts to reclaim Sasuke as a vessel. Sasuke uses Amaterasu, Susanoo, and Kirin, but is exhausted after fighting Itachi and Nao 163 164 166.

Orochimaru stabs Sasuke through the chest while attempting to take his eyes. Naruto incapacitates Orochimaru, but arrives too late to save Sasuke. Sasuke dies in Itachi's arms, and Naruto cremates his body 166.
