Already humiliated and injured by Tang Hao, he is enraged by Dai Mubai's false account that Yang Xing had attacked Shrek's teachers and students; without verifying the situation, he immediately attacks in Martial Soul True Body form to defend the academy's face. 44

Despite his temper, Zhao takes responsibility for his students' safety. He ends the conflict with Canghui Academy after Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun provoke its students, shields the Shrek students when the dispute with Dragon Duke Meng Shu becomes hostile, and withstands an attack meant to force the group aside. 78 87 88

Shrek Academy Entrance Test

Zhao serves as the final examiner for Tang San, Xiao Wu, Zhu Zhuqing, and Ning Rongrong. He requires them to withstand his attacks for one incense stick, first testing their coordination before treating Ning Rongrong as the priority target because of her Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda support. 27

Although Ning Rongrong's Wind Empress Qimen repeatedly interrupts his movements and lets her team prolong the fight, Zhao escalates to Immovable Wisdom King Body, decisively overpowering the group. 28

After the examination, Zhao questions Ning Rongrong about the abilities she used. He is unable to reconcile her spatial movement, elemental manipulation, and material transformations with the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda martial soul. 29

Conflict with Yang Xing

After arriving at the training ground injured from Tang Hao's earlier attack, Zhao is misled by Dai Mubai into believing Yang Xing has assaulted Shrek's teachers and students. Furious at the apparent intrusion and determined not to be treated “like clay,” he releases his Martial Soul True Body and charges Yang Xing. 43 44

Yang Xing halts Zhao mid-charge with an unexplained restraining force, then forcibly presses the Martial Soul avatar face-first into the ground. Zhao loses consciousness but survives. 44 45

Aftermath

Zhao is later found sprawled on the training ground alongside the injured Li Yusong. Shao Xin and Lu Qibin initially believe Shrek Academy has suffered an attack by a powerful enemy. 52

Star Dou Great Forest Expedition

Zhao leads the Shrek students into the Star Dou Great Forest to help Oscar obtain a third soul ring. Before entering the forest, he decisively ends the hotel conflict between Shrek and Canghui Academy by sending Canghui's Ye Zhiqiu flying with a slap. 78

After Tang San reaches Rank 30, Zhao keeps the group in the forest to seek Tang San's third soul ring. When the Titan Giant Ape abducts Xiao Wu, its shockwave leaves Zhao completely helpless despite his Rank 76 cultivation and Martial Soul True Body. He joins Tang San in pleading with Ning Rongrong to summon Yang Xing, but she claims that her earlier means of summoning him cannot be used again. 78

After Xiao Wu returns to the group, Zhao recounts Tang San's pursuit and accepts her explanation that Yang Xing had rescued her and taken Ning Rongrong to acquire a soul ring. 86

When Dragon Duke Meng Shu and Serpent Grandmother Chao Tianxiang return, Zhao initially tries to avoid further conflict and offers to assist Meng Yiran in finding another suitable soul ring. Once Meng Shu exposes Xiao Wu's identity as a transformed hundred-thousand-year soul beast and attacks the group, Zhao shields the students and uses Immovable Wisdom King Body to receive the Dragon Cane strike. 87 88

Zhao later warns Yang Xing of the Unrivaled Dragon Snake couple's Martial Soul Fusion Skill, believing its power comparable to that of a Titled Douluo. He is left shaken when Yang Xing reveals nine soul rings, including a blood-red hundred-thousand-year ring, and effortlessly defeats the pair. Witnessing the outcome leaves Zhao trembling and unable to speak as he recalls his earlier conflict with Yang Xing. He suspects that Flender knew Yang Xing's true identity but failed to warn him. 90 91

Heaven Dou Royal Academy Merger

Zhao travels with Shrek's teachers and students when the academy sets out for Heaven Dou City. At Heaven Dou Royal Academy, Prince Xue Xing insults Shrek and challenges its teachers' qualifications. Zhao is ready to respond angrily, but Flender holds him back. The dispute escalates when Xue Xing relies on Poison Douluo Dugu Bo to drive Shrek away. 178 190 191

Yang Xing intervenes and defeats Dugu Bo. Zhao joins the other Shrek teachers and students in respectfully greeting Yang Xing and thanking him for resolving the confrontation. With the obstruction removed, Shrek Academy merges into Heaven Dou Royal Academy; its teachers and students receive Tianzhi Grade status. 195 196 198
