Background

Yang Xing died in his previous world after fighting eighteen thugs for five and a half hours, then awakened on Douluo Continent. Although he expected a promising transmigrator’s life, his martial soul awakening at six produced only a tiny wooden stick and zero innate soul power. 1

For ten years, he was accompanied by an apprenticeship system. The system promised exceptional cultivation if he accepted a disciple with god-level potential, supreme talent, and extraordinary appearance. Yang Xing traveled to Soto City under the guise of a fortune-teller, repeatedly failing to recruit suitable candidates before targeting Ning Rongrong. 1 8

He exploited Ning Rongrong’s desire to evolve the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda into the Nine Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda, provoking her into signing a master-disciple contract. After claiming the resulting cultivation reward, he demonstrated his abilities until she willingly accepted him as her master and chose Wind Empress Qimen as her inheritance. 5 9 16 19

Yang Xing later retrieved Ah Yin’s Blue Silver Emperor legacy and began preserving its sapling, partly considering whether he could cultivate a future god-level apprentice from it. Following Ning Rongrong’s martial soul evolution, Yang Xing exposed Qian Renxue’s identity beneath her Xue Qinghe disguise and compelled her to confront him under her true name. Qian Renxue ultimately acknowledged him as her master, becoming his second disciple. 67 70 72

Seeking to expand his methods of recruitment without personally pursuing every candidate, Yang Xing designed an Inheritance Disciple Ring and an independent secret realm. He recruited ten elderly soul beasts nearing the end of their lives, promising them mechanical bodies, one thousand years of service, and eventual freedom in exchange for acting as the secret realm’s guardians. 130 131 132

Yang Xing also became increasingly involved with Spirit Hall. He assisted Hu Liena during a dangerous Soul Ring absorption, later confronted Bibi Dong, Yue Guan, and Gui Mei over the Spirit Binding Method, and refused Bibi Dong’s offers of resources in exchange for the technique. To deter future threats against his disciples, Yang Xing reached a provisional understanding with Qian Daoliu through Qian Renxue. Personality

Yang Xing is pragmatic, resilient, and intensely focused on acquiring strength. His years of weakness after transmigration tempered him against dwelling on loss; once the system’s intelligence departed, he chose to move forward rather than indulge in sentiment. 8

He is also calculating and provocative. He bluffed, withheld information, and deliberately played on Ning Rongrong’s pride and ambitions to make her accept him as her master. 3 5 13 16 He commonly masks his intentions beneath teasing, shameless humor, and an intentionally unserious demeanor.

Despite his laziness and indulgence, Yang Xing is protective of his disciples. He intervened when Ning Rongrong was attacked, healed her injuries, and punished those who bullied or threatened her. 37 40 46 He similarly protected Qian Renxue from Spirit Hall’s pursuing elders and personally guided Xiao Wu through her dangerous body-tempering process. 99 112 113

His mercy is selective. He spared Tang Hao on two occasions, erasing and replacing memories of their confrontations, but killed the Dragon Duke and Serpent Grandmother after they threatened Xiao Wu and later killed Ghost Leopard Douluo and Demon Bear Douluo. 58 91 96 103 113

Yang Xing also possesses a strong distaste for the continent’s noble privileges and the tendency of powerful victors to define morality for everyone else. His criticism of Tang Hao’s attitude toward Xiao Wu reflects his resentment toward such double standards. 57
