Background / History

Yuan Ling was created when Yuan Yan divided the remaining Primordial Gourd Vine into three portions, lodging his three selves within them. After ten yuanhui, the three portions transformed into independent Dao bodies. Yuan Ling emerged with a foundation only slightly below Yuan Yan’s and cultivation at perfected Taiyi Golden Immortal. 14

Yuan Yan assigned the name Yuan Ling to the Dao body who would principally cultivate the Dao of Mind. He received the Soul-Scattering Gourd and Spirit-Absorbing Gourd, whose soul-, confusion-, summoning-, and control-related Daos complemented that path. 15

After descending Mount Buzhou, Yuan Ling joined the Four Yuans’ treasure redistribution. He received the Illusory World Painting, Dream Millet, and Mind-Misleading Lotus as resources suited to the Mind Dao. 19

He later participated in the long campaign to cleanse the Three Clans Battlefields and repair the damaged earth veins of the Primordial World. The work earned him immense Heavenly Dao merit and carried him to the middle Great Luo stage. 28 30

Appearance

Yuan Ling appears as a handsome, upright young Daoist who resembles Yuan Yan by roughly seventy percent, though his temperament differs from that of the main body and the other Dao bodies. 14
