Background

The Primordial World was created when Pangu cleaved apart primordial chaos with the Heaven-Splitting Axe. Clear qi rose to form heaven, turbid qi sank to form earth, and light appeared within the newly opened realm 1.

Pangu's creation was contested by the three thousand Chaos Demon Gods, who feared that the world's birth would deprive them of the Great Dao's favor. Pangu defeated them, using their severed bodies, broken accompanying treasures, the shattered Chaos Green Lotus, and fragments of the Jade Disc of Creation as materials for the incomplete world 1.

Shichen, the Time Demon God, damaged the future River of Time during the conflict. Pangu suppressed the river rather than fully restore it, causing time within the Primordial World to become a loop and fixing karma in place 1.

Shichen's attack also caused past, future, time, space, and even worlds to overlap temporarily, enabling beings to cross time and worlds. Yuan Yan later concluded that continued temporal interference and alterations to the past would consume the Primordial World's origin and weaken its foundation. 1 98

The newborn world remained unstable under chaos pressure. Pangu divided the broken Heaven-Splitting Axe into the Taiji Diagram, Pangu Banner, and Chaos Bell to calm earth, water, fire, and wind; stabilize time and space; and clear chaotic qi. He then held heaven and earth apart until they stabilized, before his body transformed into the world itself 1.

“This realm shall be called the Primordial World.” — Pangu 1

Before his transformation, Pangu expressed the hope that the world's inhabitants would gain the strength to protect themselves before he and the Chaos Demon Gods revived. Yuan Yan later regarded the Primordial World's continued existence as evidence of Pangu's enduring connection to it and rejected the assumption that Pangu's apparent fall meant permanent annihilation. 1 13

Formation and Structure

Pangu's Transformation

Pangu's body became the world's fundamental features after his death:

• His breath became wind and clouds; his roar became thunder. 1
• His left and right eyes became the sun and moon. 1
• His hair and beard became the stars. 1
• His limbs and torso became the earth's four extremities and its divine mountains. 1
• His blood became its rivers, lakes, and seas. 1
• His sinews became its earth veins, while his flesh became Dao-infused spiritual vitality. 1
• Mount Buzhou, the foremost divine mountain, was formed from Pangu's spine and connects heaven and earth. 2 16
• Mount Buzhou is also the source of the Primordial World's Ancestral Vein. Its Pangu pressure gradually weakened from the early period of creation, though it remained a powerful feature of the mountain. 186

World Membranes

• The primordial world membrane envelops the entire realm and prevents chaos qi from entering from outside. 63
• Beyond this membrane lies the Inner Chaos. 63
• A second, more distant membrane separates the Inner Chaos from the true Great Chaos. 63
• The Inner Chaos contains worlds of differing grades, including worlds naturally nurtured by the Primordial World and worlds opened by its cultivators. Worlds opened within the Inner Chaos by natives of the Primordial World are considered affiliated worlds under the Heavenly Dao's jurisdiction. 248

Affiliated and Hidden Worlds

• Demon Realm is a Middle Great Thousand World opened by Taiyi within the Inner Chaos as a refuge for the Demon Clan. After its laws, origin, and world membrane stabilized, it became independently operational and was named the Demon Realm. 246 247
• The Thirty-Three Heavens are thirty-three overlapping heavenly domains hidden between Mount Buzhou and the Boundless Starry Sky. Each domain is a Top-Tier Great Thousand World formed from Innate Clear Qi; together, they possess the scale of a Cosmic Heavens and Earth-level world. 254
• The Three Immortal Isles Overseas were formed from fragments of Chaos that entered the Primordial World. They drift through the Chaos Void and periodically intersect with the East Sea across time and space. 37
• The Yinyang Grotto-Heaven is a hidden Small World reached through a realm gate on Mount Buzhou. Yuan Yan refined its World-Sealing Stele to control the realm and its defensive formations. 17 18

The Thirty-Three Heavens later provided the Demon Clan with concealment from the Earth Court and a secure position from which to send forces into the lower realm. This hidden base prevented the Earth Court's territorial superiority from immediately becoming a decisive victory over the Demon Clan. 294 295

Grotto-Heavens and Blessed Lands

The Primordial World produces innate spirit treasures and spiritual roots through places rich in innate spiritual qi, Dao rhythm, spiritual essence, and resonating Great Daos. Such sites are divided into:

• Blessed lands — locations centered on innate earth veins and spiritual acupoints. 17
• Grotto-heavens — small worlds, often hidden in the void and connected to the Primordial World through realm gates. 17

Their quality depends on their grade rather than whether they are a grotto-heaven or blessed land. 17

Nuwa expanded the restored Western Continent's resource base by opening and developing Blessed Lands at earth-vein nodes. Using Creation Dao, Nine Heavens Breath Soil, Three Lights Divine Water, the Creation Azure Lotus, and cultivation techniques such as grafting, she increased spiritual-root production and shortened maturation periods. 101

Earth Veins and World Cycle

The world's earth-vein network is centered on ancestral veins such as Mount Buzhou and Kunlun Mountain. These veins work with the laws of the Great Dao to absorb and transform chaos qi into innate spiritual qi and Dao-rhyme opportunities, sustaining life and cultivation throughout the realm. 26

If earth veins are broken, spiritual vitality and Dao rhythms leak away, leaving regions desolate or uninhabitable. 16 29

• Reconnected earth veins can once again draw chaos qi from the void. 26
• The restored cycle converts that qi into innate spiritual qi and Dao-rhyme spiritual opportunities. 26
• The Heaven-Earth Origin-Returning Formation can further refine chaos qi into spiritual qi, Dao-rhyme essence, and the world's origin power, healing damaged earth veins and storing surplus power. 50

Western Continent Restoration Strategy

Yuan Yan subsequently adjusted the Western formation's output so that only twenty to thirty percent of the converted Chaos Qi became Innate Spiritual Qi and Dao-rhyme essence, while seventy to eighty percent became Heaven-Earth Origin Force. This prioritized replenishing and strengthening the restored innate earth veins over immediately enriching the surrounding cultivation environment. As those veins improved, the restored territory could expand into barren regions without requiring every obliterated vein to be recreated from nothing. 162 167

His long-term objectives included restoring the continent, advancing the Heaven-Origin Range's earth veins into a new Ancestral Vein, and eventually raising the west's spiritual abundance beyond its former peak. The projected doubling of its former spiritual energy and Dao-rhyme essence was a development goal rather than an established result. 162

By the time Yuan Yan prepared to conclude the Western project, almost all territory covered by the formation had recovered, leaving only a small barren portion that he could repair immediately. He deliberately excluded Mount Sumeru and the remaining barren territory associated with Jieyin and Zhunti, recognizing their restoration as Jieyin's own route to repaying Western Karma and attaining sainthood. Rather than risk conflict over the damaged Mount Sumeru Ancestral Vein, he continued prioritizing the Heaven-Origin Range. 296

The Western Continent was later described as restored to its former glory, although the separate Northern project was still recovering. 318

Northern Continent Purification

The Origin Dao Furnace was installed in the Changbai Mountain Range, the Northern Continent's ancestral vein, replacing the Yinyang Twin-Bloom Lotus as the formation's core. Yingzhou experts guarded it and assisted its simultaneous production of Origin Dao Pills and conversion of Grievance Fiendish Qi Origin. 240

The Northern restoration project comprised several distinct tasks:

1. Purify the innate earth veins and remove the Grievance Fiendish Qi Origin fused into them. 293
2. Reconnect and reorganize the earth veins into a complete network. 293 296
3. Establish a Northern Heaven-Earth Origin-Returning Formation. 293
4. Replenish the veins' origins and restore their former grades over time. 293

At an earlier stage, purification alone was expected to require several hundred yuanhui, while complete restoration could take two or three thousand yuanhui. A second set of Heaven-Earth Origin-Returning Formation Flags was later prepared as the purification neared completion. Yuan Yan's group deliberately separated the Western and Northern projects' concluding operations to avoid simultaneously attracting attention to both achievements. 293 296

Yuan Jie, Yuan Lun, Yuan Ling, Fuxi, and Nuwa initially concealed the Northern transformation by regulating purification and spiritual-energy output. After accelerating their work, they completed the earth veins' purification in less than two yuanhui. The veins ceased producing innate fiendish qi, and the continent's visible return to vitality made secrecy impossible. They accepted this exposure and adjusted the formations to continue absorbing and purifying residual stray fiendish qi rather than attempting to recreate the former contamination. 333

Historical Calamities

Dragon-Han Calamity

During the late Dragon-Han Calamity, the Dragon, Phoenix, and Qilin Clans divided and dominated the Primordial World. Their conflict, intensified by Rahu's demon envoys and other hidden actors, led to widespread purges and slaughter across the realm. 10

The Three Clans eventually chose all-out war in an attempt to unify the world, gain supreme providence, and pursue the Hunyuan Daluo Dao. 11

The war engulfed the four seas, nine heavens, and earth for twenty to thirty yuanhui. Its divine battles shattered stars, tore open the firmament, crushed earth veins, and left fewer than one in ten thousand living beings alive. 11

After their providence collapsed beneath Bloodshed Karmic Force, Ancestral Dragon, Primordial Phoenix, and Primordial Qilin made Heavenly Dao oaths to atone for their clans' devastation and help stabilize the world. 11

Their commitments included Ancestral Dragon transforming his body into earth veins and suppressing the Four Seas' dangers, Primordial Phoenix suppressing the Undying Volcano, and Primordial Qilin becoming Qilin Cliff to repair and stabilize earth veins. The merit received for fulfilling these vows was consumed by their clans' karmic burden, reducing it to less than thirty percent but leaving the survivors with severe Dao injuries and continuing cultivation difficulties. 11 12

Dao-Demon Strife

Four to five yuanhui after Yuan Yan's emergence, Rahu detonated the Western Continent's earth veins, shaking the entire Primordial World and opening the Outer Heavenly Demon Realm. This act ended the Dao-Demon Strife but left the west severely damaged. 15

The destruction created vast fissures in the Western Continent, including a gap in the Supreme Awakening Range that stretched several trillion li. 45

The devastation also killed most of the Western Continent's native innate sacred beings before they could successfully emerge. Many of the few survivors possessed damaged foundations, contributing to the west's scarcity of native cultivators and its long period of political and spiritual weakness. 104

Restoration Efforts

Yuan Yan and his Three-Selves Dao Bodies later purified Three Clans battlefields, refined blood fiend resentment and baleful qi, repaired damaged earth veins, and restored disordered laws. 23 35 42

Their work restored the world's natural cycle and earned them vast Heavenly Dao merit. 26 35 They later established formations and recruited cultivators to guard repair sites and continue restoring the Western Continent. 48 49 50

The Yingzhou Immortal Island Lineage subsequently connected restored Western earth veins into a continent-wide cyclic network and activated the Complete Heaven-Earth Origin-Returning Formation, beginning a large-scale revival of the region. 146 147

The Twelve, and later Thirteen, Ancestral Witches likewise repaired earth veins, absorbed fiendish and turbid qi, and hunted beings carrying immense slaughter karma, earning merit through actions that protected the world's balance. 104 268

Minghe later established another continuing purification effort through the enhanced Blood Sea Formation. After fusing with the Blood Sea Origin, he publicly vowed to cleanse the Primordial World's blood fiend power; the formation, operated by his Blood God Sons, became a sustained source of merit as it absorbed and refined that corruption. 295

Rise of the Earth Court

As major factions expanded through conquest, their accumulated Fortune became contaminated by concealed Bloodshed Karmic Force created through slaughter and annexation. 160

The Thirteen Ancestral Witches established the Earth Court at Mount Buzhou, declaring their responsibility to govern the Primordial World, restore order, clear baleful and turbid energies obstructing earth veins, and stabilize the world's circulation. The Heavenly Dao and lingering Pangu Will answered with immense Mysterious Yellow Merit. 271

Following the Immortal Court's defeat, the Earth Court expanded into the Four Seas and Southern Continent, beginning to impose its rule over those regions. 286

With the Demon Clan in retreat, the Earth Court completed its conquest of the Four Seas and Southern Continent within roughly a dozen yuanhui. Under Jiufeng's direction, it then shifted from territorial expansion toward administration and rebuilding. Its measures included: 293

• Establishing laws to restrain pointless warfare and slaughter. 293
• Eliminating surviving ferocious beasts and cleansing polluted battlefields. 293
• Repairing and reorganizing damaged earth veins. 293
• Planting spiritual resources and developing mineral deposits. 293
• Constructing cities and teleportation arrays to improve trade and communication. 293
• Following the Yingzhou lineage's example of sustainable development. 293

These achievements earned enormous merit and raised the Earth Court's Fortune to a level comparable with the Yingzhou Immortal Island Lineage. This did not amount to uncontested unification: the Demon Clan remained concealed in the Thirty-Three Heavens, while other major powers retained their own domains and influence. 293 294

Four Seasons Order

Rather than immediately launch further conquest after strengthening the Earth Court, the Thirteen Ancestral Witches established a global natural order. Jumang became Spring God, Zhurong Summer God, Rushou Autumn God, and Xuanming Winter God; Zhu Jiuyin established the formal order of time, while the remaining witches took charge of weather, water, earth, mountains, and spatial distribution. 272 273

Dijiang spread this seasonal order across the entire Primordial World. The Heavenly Dao absorbed the completed Four Seasons Order, perfecting the world's laws of seasons, climate, time, and natural cycles. 273 274

Continuing Witch-Demon Conflict

After the Immortal Court's destruction, Di Jun and Taiyi rescued nearly half of its surviving experts by burning their Benevolent and Evil Corpse Dao Bodies. Those survivors joined the Demon Clan largely to use its Fortune to suppress the enormous Murderous Karmic Force left by their former faction's collapse. 294

The Demon Clan repeatedly concealed Heavenly Secrets and sent forces down from the Thirty-Three Heavens to provoke the Earth Court. The Earth Court responded with traps and ambushes. These recurring engagements remained limited in scale and did not overturn the broader balance of the Primordial World. 295

Both factions continued preparing for a decisive conflict. The Earth Court developed additional formations and blood-refined battle weapons, while the Demon Clan sought to complete the Zhou Tian Star Formation as a counter to the Pangu True Body and to support its Primordial River-Luo Grand Formation. 293 294

Hunyuan Era and Yingzhou Deterrence

Yuan Yan's attainment of the Hunyuan Great Firmament Golden Immortal realm again altered the world's political balance. Rival powers feared that Yuan Jie, Yuan Lun, and Yuan Ling would soon follow him, giving the Yingzhou lineage overwhelming strength. The Three Pure Ones and Jieyin intensified their pursuit of sainthood, while the Earth Court and Demon Clan could only hope that the lineage would not seek world domination. 304

By the time Yuan Jie, Yuan Lun, and Yuan Ling had reached Half-Step Hunyuan Great Firmament Golden Immortal, Yuan Yan had also demonstrated his superiority by easily blocking the Pangu True Body's Heaven-Splitting Strike. The lineage's position was regarded as unshakable until another Sage appeared and potentially secure even afterward. 331

The danger of warfare at this level extended beyond individual factions. A conflict involving the Yingzhou lineage, Earth Court, and future Sages could ruin the newly restored Western Continent, the recovering Northern Continent, and the wider world—losses the Primordial World could not afford. 318

Yuan Yan's strength and status as a Sage subsequently allowed the Northern restoration team to accept the exposure of their work. Rather than continue concealing the continent's revival, they relied on the lineage's deterrent power and prepared to suppress interference. 333

Heavenly Dao and Merit

The Heavenly Dao acknowledges actions that stabilize and restore the Primordial World.

• Pangu received boundless Great Dao merit for creating and stabilizing heaven and earth. 1
• One portion of Pangu's creation merit formed the Heaven-and-Earth Profound Yellow Exquisite Pagoda, while another formed the Grandmist Measuring Ruler. 1
• Remaining creation merit was distributed among Pangu's divided primordial spirit, his essence-blood, and the world itself to nurture all things. 1
• Yuan Yan received Heavenly Dao merit after stabilizing broken earth veins and restoring their cycle. 26
• The Heaven-Earth Origin-Returning Formation continually earns merit by refining chaos qi and healing the world. 50
• Hongjun's Dao Unification strengthened the Primordial World's Heavenly Dao order, made its laws more harmonious, and increased the abundance of spiritual energy and Dao Rhyme available to all beings. 211

The distribution of Fortune limits political unification. Major innate sacred beings and the Three Thousand Purple Firmament Palace Guests already controlled the Fortune of many important regions; occupying most of the world's territory would therefore not automatically grant a conqueror its complete Fortune or authority. 117

Yuan Yan repeatedly rejected direct competition for supremacy despite his faction's strength. He judged that prolonged conquest would accumulate bloodshed karma and could provoke Hongjun's intervention or Heavenly Dao trials. Instead, he pursued restoration, commerce, cultural achievements, and overwhelming influence without formally claiming unified rule. 161 212

Completion and acknowledgment of major restoration projects also carried consequences for cultivators' karmic obligations. Yuan Yan expected the Western project's completion and announcement to heaven and earth to settle the Western Karma transferred to his group by Hongjun and release the immense merit and Fortune needed for further advancement. The unfinished Northern project was likewise important to the group's plans for repaying karma and safely completing their Dao Fruits. 293 296

Merit-producing opportunities depend on their usefulness and precedence. Kunpeng could no longer obtain a comparable reward for creating Demon Script because Yuan Ling's Immortal Script, recognized under Hongjun's guidance, had already filled the role of the Immortal Dao's orthodox writing system. 295

Inhabitants

After the Dragon-Han Calamity, a new generation of innate sacred beings emerged across the Primordial World. Innate sacred beings are nurtured by the world and favored by heaven and earth, though their foundations vary from lower to top tier. 59 66

By the time Yuan Yan emerged from 116 yuanhui of seclusion, approximately one to two thousand Great Luo Golden Immortals had publicly left behind enough information to be deduced; the actual number was unknown due to cultivators concealing their heavenly secrets. 59

As Dao Ancestor Hongjun's teachings and the teachings of other major cultivators spread, the cultivation system became more complete and the number of Golden Immortals, Taiyi Golden Immortals, and Great Firmament Golden Immortals increased rapidly. 104

The Primordial World is politically divided among major powers, including the Yingzhou Immortal Island Lineage in the west, the Earth Court, the Demon Clan, the Three Pure Ones' Kunlun lineage, Kunpeng's North Sea domain, and independent regional factions. 104 271 286

Yuan Ling's creation of Immortal Script was recognized by Hongjun and became the orthodox writing system of the Immortal Dao, allowing a more accessible common script to spread among the myriad tribes. 212

Civilizational and Economic Development

The Yingzhou Commerce Association introduced a pill-based cultivation economy using Yin-Yang Creation Pills, Law Pills, and Origin Dao Pills.
