Background / History

The Uchiha were one of Konoha’s two founding clans alongside the Senju, but their relationship with the village deteriorated over generations. As the Konoha Military Police, they enforced order and fought at the border, yet were widely distrusted and blamed for lacking camaraderie when their Sharingan awakened after battlefield trauma 19 193.

After the Nine-Tails’ attack, the clan was accused because the beast had been seen under Sharingan control. Root had prevented the Uchiha from joining the defense, but concealed that fact; Danzō then supported relocating the clan from central Konoha to an isolated district on the village edge, where Anbu and Root could monitor them more easily 3.

This treatment deepened existing divisions within the clan:

• Dove Faction — tolerated Konoha’s oppression and hoped for eventual fair treatment; represented by Fugaku. 19
• Hawk Faction — advocated rebellion and direct resistance against Konoha’s leadership; represented by figures such as Setsuna and later Yashiro. 19 77
• Neutral Faction — resisted both extremes and defended the existing clan order during Feng’s rise. 85 87

Feng initially rejoined the clan after awakening the Sharingan, trained under Kentaro Uchiha, and briefly served in the Military Police Force. His aggressive “club enforcement” tactics made patrol districts safer but intensified hostility between the Uchiha and Konoha 3 5.

After Feng disappeared from Konoha, the village labeled him a rogue ninja and accused him of grave robbing. The Uchiha rejected this account, believing Root had captured him for experimentation because of Danzō and Orochimaru’s history of using Uchiha bodies in research 16.

Feng later contacted Yashiro, Bosawa, Kentaro, Kazue, and Jianshi in secret, recruiting Uchiha who prioritized the clan over Konoha. Several squads faked their deaths, allowing Feng to relocate and train them while Yashiro used the false deaths to worsen tensions between Konoha and Kirigakure 47 52 57.

Uchiha Clan Assembly and Secession

All 3,104 recorded Uchiha clan members were summoned to the Konoha district for a full-clan assembly. The gathering drew the attention of Konoha’s leadership, rival clans, informants, Anbu, and Root, who feared it would become an open rebellion 85.

Feng used the assembly to challenge Fugaku’s leadership, arguing that Fugaku had failed to protect the clan despite foreseeing its destruction. Fugaku’s silence weakened support for the former clan head, while Feng’s Hawk Faction enforced order through intimidation 86.

Feng then claimed the position of clan head. When the Neutral Faction’s Third Elder objected, Feng immediately executed him, silencing further direct opposition 87. Following Itachi’s exposure as a Konoha-aligned threat to the clan, Feng was unanimously recognized as the new leader 88.

Feng ordered the clan to choose between remaining loyal to Konoha under Fugaku or leaving with him. Most members chose Feng; roughly seven to eight hundred stood with Fugaku, while several hundred refused to choose 90. Feng’s supporters withdrew through a prepared underground evacuation route while he delayed Konoha’s forces in battle against Itachi 91 92.

The evacuated Uchiha were later transported to Takera Island, an isolated island west of Rainbow Country with fertile land, bamboo resources, and room for nearly ten thousand residents. Feng presented it as a permanent homeland free from Konoha’s discrimination and surveillance 96.

Sharingan

The Sharingan is the Uchiha’s defining kekkei genkai. Clan members display one-, two-, and three-tomoe forms; mature users can perceive movements, predict attacks, copy techniques, and cast genjutsu 52 194.
