History

Feng initially sought Senjutsu as an answer to future Six Paths-class and Ōtsutsuki threats. He judged Mount Myōboku inaccessible because of Jiraiya and the Uchiha–Konoha conflict, while Ryūchi Cave’s life-risking initiation was unacceptable. Orochimaru’s research-based Sage Mode offered a possible alternative, but Feng ultimately pursued the Tsuchigumo Clan’s forbidden art instead 115 163.

The Tsuchigumo art was developed through research into Natural Energy after the clan’s ancestors witnessed Hashirama Senju’s Senjutsu. Their research led them to a Spirit Orb that continuously “breathed” Natural Energy; the clan later created a forbidden art capable of absorbing and releasing that energy 167 168. Feng pressured En no Gyōja and Yaku Daibu for access to this knowledge, recognizing its potential to lead him to Senjutsu 166.

At the Natural Energy site, Feng avoided direct exposure and used Shadow Clones and Yaku Daibu as safeguards. Feng, Izumi, Mei, and the Royal Guard could not sense the energy despite more than half a month of attempts. Progress came only when Takata evolved his Sharingan to Three Tomoe and discovered that it could faintly see Natural Energy; Feng and Izumi immediately confirmed the observation 172.

Feng later mastered Senjutsu and merged it with Lightning Release Chakra Mode, creating Sage Art: Super Saiyan Mode. The transformation greatly enhanced his physical power, speed, sensory ability, and resistance to genjutsu, allowing him to ignore Hashirama’s Bringer-of-Darkness Technique and strike through Fugaku’s attempted Susanoo activation 175.

Mechanics

Natural Energy Absorption

Senjutsu Chakra is created by absorbing and fusing Natural Energy rather than relying on ordinary chakra alone.

• The Tsuchigumo Forbidden Art can actively control the absorption and release of freely occurring Natural Energy 166.
• Excessive Natural Energy petrifies ordinary users; Yaku Daibu, the clan’s inheritor, is immune and can remove excess energy from others under extremely time-sensitive conditions 166.
• Feng initially considered direct absorption too dangerous and kept his original body away from the experiment area 172.
• The Spirit Orb site contains unusually dense Natural Energy, though its source remains unexplained 171.

Sharingan-Assisted Observation

Feng’s breakthrough did not come from sensing Natural Energy conventionally.

• Feng, Izumi, Mei, and the Royal Guard initially failed to perceive Natural Energy directly 172.
• A Three-Tomoe Sharingan can vaguely observe Natural Energy around a target and see it enter Yaku Daibu’s body 172.
• This visual method allowed Feng to study Natural Energy fusion without first developing innate sensory talent 172.

Sage Art Applications

Sage Art: Super Saiyan Mode

Feng’s self-created Sage Mode combines Senjutsu with Lightning Release Chakra Mode.

• Senjutsu lightning envelops Feng’s body, turns his hair golden, and produces gray-black eyeshadow resembling Yaku Daibu’s Spirit Orbs 175.
• Greatly increases physical power, speed, and resistance to genjutsu 175.
• Can be combined with Nine-Tails Chakra Mode for further amplification 288.
• Its activation is not instantaneous; Feng requires at least ten seconds to gather Senjutsu Chakra, leaving him vulnerable to interruption 249 256.

Sage Art: Perfect Susanoo

Feng can channel Senjutsu Chakra through his Perfect Susanoo.

• Senjutsu energy spreads over Susanoo’s body, strengthening the construct beyond its ordinary form 176.
• Feng used this form to destroy the black core of Deva Path’s Planetary Devastation with a cross-slash 289.
• The form can be stacked with Nine-Tails Chakra Mode and Flying Thunder God for high-speed large-scale combat 288 289.

Senjutsu-Enhanced Ninjutsu

Feng applies Senjutsu Chakra to existing techniques rather than relying on Sage Mode alone.

• Sage Art: Sky Sever bypassed Bringer-of-Darkness and destroyed Fugaku’s head before his Perfect Susanoo fully formed 175.
• Sage Art: Spiral Stars—a Rasengan fused with Iron Release—completely obliterated Jigokudō of the Six Paths of Pain 288.
• Feng deliberately fed Senjutsu Chakra to Preta Path while it absorbed his chakra; unable to control the Natural Energy, Preta Path mutated and exploded, destroying Human Path as well 289.

Limitations

• Natural Energy is lethal when mishandled; overabsorption can petrify or kill a user 166 172.
• Senjutsu requires a preparation period, and Feng cannot enter Sage Mode instantly 249 256.
• Feng originally lacked the ability to sense Natural Energy directly and depended on Three-Tomoe Sharingan observation to study it 172.
• The Tsuchigumo art’s safety mechanism depends on Yaku Daibu’s unique immunity and ability to extract excess energy 166.
