Background

Tayuya originally served as the red-haired female member and captain of Orochimaru's Sound Four. Alongside Jirobo, Sakon, and Kidomaru, she approached Sasuke Uchiha and offered him Orochimaru's power, ultimately leading him out of Konoha. Her attempt to impress Sasuke was ineffective; he remained focused only on gaining strength. 23 26

While escorting Sasuke, the Sound Four prepared a canyon ambush for Konoha's pursuit squad. Chenshu Senju arrived first, defeated the group, and left Tayuya restrained while dealing with the others. 27

The Sound Four later used Orochimaru's barrier and curse-mark power to resist Chenshu. Tayuya's curse mark began consuming her life force, but Chenshu healed her with Medical Wood Release rather than allowing her to die. Faced with Chenshu's strength and his promise to resolve the curse mark's flaws, she joined him with the rest of the Sound Four. 28 29

Afterward, she became part of Chenshu's private faction. Though frequently made to serve as a maid, assistant, or secretary, she also trains with the group, helps defend Chenshu's residence from Root, and increasingly accepts his leadership because he provides protection, food, healing, and major power enhancements. 34 37 43 44

While Chenshu was away from Konoha, Tayuya received his long-range orders through his Wood Release network and led the Sound Five in preparing a deliberately humiliating farewell venue for Sasuke's second defection. Although she found the assignment absurd, she carried it out without hesitation. 52

After Chenshu absorbed Root's forces, the Sound Five, and Sasuke into his personal organization, Tayuya became an operative of the newly named Senju ANBU. When Chenshu saves her from curse-mark backlash and offers food, protection, and a means to resolve the curse mark's defects, she immediately accepts his recruitment. 29 Though she frequently curses Chenshu and resents his treatment of her, she gradually recognizes the security and benefits of serving under him. 33 38 44
