History
The village carries the legacy of the Senju Clan: Hashirama Senju served as the First Hokage and Tobirama Senju as the Second. As the clan declined, its remaining members gradually integrated into village life, leaving their former territory abandoned as the Senju Clan Ruins. 1 11
Chenshu Senju’s sudden emergence as a Wood Release user places the village’s leadership and covert forces on alert. The Third Hokage observes his academy performance, personally places him in Team 7, and later recognizes him as a potential future pillar of the village. 1 2 8
Following Chenshu’s Wood Release battles in the Land of Waves, an urgent report reaches the Hokage, while Root opens a confidential dossier identifying him as a “Wood Release Awakener.” 6
During the Chunin Exams finals, the Sand Village and Otogakure launch the Konoha Crush Plan. Although Chenshu’s preparations neutralize the arena explosives and protect a section of civilians, the village suffers widespread disorder, Gaara’s rampage, and Orochimaru’s assassination of the Third Hokage. 19 20
The Third Hokage’s death leaves the village rebuilding amid political instability, depleted defenses, and Sasuke Uchiha’s attempted defection. The village leadership subsequently summons Tsunade to succeed Hiruzen Sarutobi as Hokage. 20 24 26 48
Under Tsunade’s administration, the village’s internal balance of power changes sharply. Chenshu publicly supports Tsunade against Danzo, later seizes Root’s infrastructure, and consolidates Root remnants, the Sound Five, and Sasuke into his personal Senju ANBU force. 55 57 63
Akatsuki increasingly identifies Konoha as a major obstacle because of Chenshu’s presence. Following failed incursions by Itachi and Kisame and then by Kisame, Kakuzu, and Hidan, the Six Paths of Pain launch an open invasion that devastates the village and threatens its survival. 43 68 70 71
Chenshu prevents Planetary Devastation from annihilating Konoha with the incomplete True Several Thousand Hands, while the Senju ANBU stabilizes the battle against Pain’s individual Paths. Pain and Obito subsequently retreat, leaving the village victorious but with its central district reduced to interconnected craters and ruins. 72 75 78
In the invasion’s aftermath, Konoha begins reconstruction under the protection of Chenshu’s Wood Release, which leaves the Senju Estate among the few major structures still intact. News of the victory forces the other great villages to reassess Konoha as a leading military power. 80
A surviving Root faction led by Danzo exploits the post-invasion disorder to abduct Tsunade through a poisoned-letter trap, intending to use her in a bargain with Akatsuki. Chenshu tracks the Fifth Hokage beyond Konoha’s barrier, dismantles the Root operation, and rescues her from a Land of Rain hideout. 79 81 82 86 90
After Tsunade’s recovery, Konoha answers Sunagakure’s emergency request following Gaara’s abduction. Chenshu, Naruto, and Kakashi participate in the rescue operation, and Gaara is returned safely to the Sand Village. 90 91 93 99
With Tsunade absent from the Five Kage Summit, Chenshu represents Konoha alongside Kakashi and Sasuke. Following Obito’s declaration of the Fourth Shinobi World War, the Five Great Ninja Villages establish the Allied Shinobi Forces and appoint Chenshu as Supreme Commander, though he limits his role to confronting Akatsuki directly. 98 99 100 106
Administration and Security
Hokage Administration
The Third Hokage oversaw the village from the Hokage Office Building and used surveillance to monitor unusual developments, including Chenshu’s early academy performance. 1
- Personally altered the graduating class’s team assignments to place Chenshu, Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, and Sakura Haruno under Kakashi Hatake in Team 7. 2
- Received reports concerning Chenshu’s Wood Release awakening after the Land of Waves mission. 6
- Granted Chenshu access to choose two basic ninjutsu from the Scroll of Seals reading room as a mission reward; advanced techniques required merit. 8
- Was killed during the Konoha Crush Plan after sealing Orochimaru’s arms, leaving the village without a Hokage during its immediate reconstruction period. 20
Tsunade returns to the village and formally becomes the Fifth Hokage after receiving an appointment letter from the village’s leadership. 48 55
- Takes a firm position against Danzo and the senior council during her handover meeting, asserting Hokage authority over planned institutional reforms. 55
- Mobilizes the village’s forces and issues an S-rank combat alert when the Six Paths of Pain invade. 68 71
- Coordinates the defense with Shizune while Konoha’s shinobi evacuate civilians and engage the invading Akatsuki forces. 71
- Briefly disappears during the invasion’s aftermath after Danzo’s surviving Root faction uses a poisoned letter and genjutsu-based scheme to abduct her. 79 81
- Resumes her authority after Chenshu rescues her from the Land of Rain and immediately responds to Sunagakure’s request for assistance following Gaara’s abduction. 90 91
ANBU
ANBU serve as an official security and response force.
- An ANBU delivers the urgent report on Chenshu’s Wood Release to the Third Hokage. 6
- An ANBU squad arrives after Chenshu incapacitates three Root intruders at the Senju residence. 9
- ANBU unsuccessfully attempt to break Orochimaru’s Four Violet Flames Formation during the Konoha Crush Plan. 19
- Several ANBU are wounded or killed while clearing surviving Sound Ninja after the invasion, though Chenshu and Jiraiya rescue a wounded unit. 22
- ANBU later detain Sasuke following his failed defection and public humiliation. 55
- ANBU initially believe Tsunade left the Hokage Building for the front lines during the Pain invasion, before Shizune discovers that the Hokage is missing. 79
Root
Root formerly operated from a secret base under Danzo’s leadership and treated Chenshu’s independent Wood Release power as a threat requiring control. 6 12
- Root attempted to recruit Chenshu by promising specialized Wood Release training unavailable through the Hokage. 8
- After his refusal, Root staged an attack on his residence, then later attempted to frame him through a fabricated alleyway assault. 8 16
- Chenshu captured Root operatives, sealed their chakra pathways, and memorized a coded communications scroll; Root subsequently evacuated three hideouts to prevent intelligence leaks. 9
- Danzo ordered Chenshu’s threat level reassessed and later planned to seize him amid the anticipated chaos of the Chunin Exams finals. 12 16
- Root continued targeting Chenshu after the Konoha Crush Plan, including a raid on his residence while he was outside the village. The attacking squad was annihilated by Chenshu’s subordinates and remote chakra support. 35 43 44
- Following Danzo’s collapse in authority, Chenshu seized Root’s headquarters and absorbed many of its remaining assets and personnel into his own organization. 57 63
- Surviving Root operatives later participate in Danzo’s plot to abduct Tsunade and trade her to Akatsuki in exchange for Chenshu’s death and Danzo’s path to the Hokage position. 81 82
Military Police Force
The Konoha Military Police Force maintains public order within the village.
- Its personnel arrest rogue ninja subdued by Chenshu after they attack civilians in West Street. 18
- Its resources are strained during the Chunin Exams finals, when heightened arena security leaves outer districts with fewer patrols. 18
Barrier Team
The village’s Barrier Team monitors Konoha’s outer sensory barrier.
- Detects Kisame, Kakuzu, and Hidan when the Akatsuki assault squad breaches the village perimeter and immediately reports the S-rank intrusion to the Hokage. 68
- Tsunade’s abductors transport her beyond the protection range of Konoha’s barrier, requiring Chenshu to rely on Sage Mode and Wood Release sensory perception to locate her. 81
Senju ANBU
The Senju ANBU is Chenshu Senju’s personal force, formed after he consolidates the Sound Five, Sasuke Uchiha, and Root remnants. It operates independently of the Hokage’s formal chain of command and prioritizes Chenshu’s orders. 63
- The force includes Sasuke Uchiha, Kimimaro, Tayuya, Kidomaru, Jirobo, Sakon, and Ukon. 63 72
- Its members defend the Senju Estate from Root attackers and later deploy against Akatsuki during the Six Paths of Pain invasion. 44 72
- Sasuke leads the group in the field against Animal Path Pain, while Kimimaro confronts Asura Path and the other members engage additional Paths. 72
- The Senju ANBU later guard Chenshu’s personal command tent within the Allied Shinobi Forces’ Konoha camp. 110

- Commercial District — A shopping area containing ninja tool shops and the site of Chenshu’s encounter with Jiraiya and Root’s staged incident. It is later heavily devastated by Deva Path Pain’s Super Shinra Tensei and becomes a major reconstruction zone. 15 16 71 80
- Chunin Exams Arena — Venue for the preliminary and final rounds of the Chunin Exams. It sustains extensive damage during Chenshu’s match with Kidomaru, becomes a focal point of the Konoha Crush Plan, and is the site of Hiruzen’s battle against Orochimaru. 13 15 17 19
- Senju Clan Ruins — An abandoned former Senju territory northwest of the village. Senju Gaku guards a secret vault there containing half of the scroll for Sage Art: Wood Release. 11

Education and Mission System
The village trains young ninja through the Ninja Academy, where graduation requires successful Clone Technique use. Graduates receive forehead protectors and are assigned to genin teams led by jonin instructors. 2
Team 7’s first assignment is officially a C-rank escort mission for bridge builder Tazuna. Its concealed danger—including the involvement of Zabuza Momochi—raises its practical difficulty to A-rank, prompting Kakashi to agree that the team should seek higher compensation upon returning to the village. 4 5
Following Sasuke’s defection, the village forms a pursuit squad led by Shikamaru Nara because many jonin are occupied with reconstruction and stabilization duties. Chenshu volunteers to join and uses Wood Release mobility to lead the squad toward the Sound Four. 26
After Gaara’s abduction, Konoha organizes an emergency response for its Sand Village ally. Tsunade initially prepares a medical team, while Chenshu, Naruto, and Kakashi depart rapidly to aid Kankuro and pursue the Akatsuki captors. 90 91 93
Chunin Exams
The village hosts the Chunin Exams, drawing genin, merchants, nobles, and visitors from multiple countries. The event includes a written examination, a survival test in the Forest of Death, preliminary arena matches, and scheduled finals. 9 10 13 17
The preliminaries are suspended after the battle between Chenshu and Kidomaru severely damages the arena; the site is left filled with trees created by Chenshu’s Wood Release. 15
The finals become the opening battlefield of the Konoha Crush Plan. Sasuke and Gaara’s match is interrupted as Kabuto’s large-scale genjutsu incapacitates spectators, Sand and Sound forces attack, and Orochimaru traps the Third Hokage within the Four Violet Flames Formation. 19
Planned Assault
On the eve of the finals, the village is infiltrated by Sand Village and Sound Ninja operatives disguised as merchants, tourists, and arena-repair craftsmen. Their movements and supplies converge on the Chunin Exams arena. 17
Chenshu identifies the operation as the embryonic form of a plan to attack the Hidden Leaf Village. Rather than openly expose it without decisive evidence, he prepares countermeasures within the arena. 17
- Locates hidden compartments containing explosive tags, poison-mist bombs, and summoning scrolls. 17
- Alters the explosives’ fuses and plants Wood Release seeds intended to bind infiltrators when they activate their chakra. 17
- Leaves an early-warning scroll with the arena security force for use if a large-scale genjutsu appears. 17
- Places dozens of incomplete Flying Thunder God marks around the arena for future tactical use. 17
- When the Konoha Crush Plan begins, the seeded traps bind the Sound Ninja stationed at the underground detonation points, preventing the planned explosions. 19
- Uses Wood Release: Wood Locking Wall and evacuation vines to shelter civilians and rookie ninja in a section of the arena during the attack. 19
Akatsuki Assaults
Following Chenshu’s growing influence within Konoha, Akatsuki classifies him as a priority threat and expands its intelligence-gathering efforts against the village. 18 24 34 60
Kisame Hoshigaki, Kakuzu, and Hidan later breach Konoha’s outer defenses in a direct assault. Although the village mobilizes its forces, Chenshu initially allows the attackers to advance into a prepared trap before deploying the Senju ANBU to engage them. 68 69
The assault squad is defeated and forced to retreat after Chenshu and his forces incapacitate Hidan, cripple Kakuzu, and drive Kisame away. Their defeat prompts Pain to personally lead the Six Paths of Pain against Konoha. 69 70
Six Paths of Pain Invasion
The Six Paths of Pain launch a daylight invasion of Konoha, dispersing across the village and targeting the central commercial district. Deva Path Pain destroys much of the district with a Super Shinra Tensei, inflicting heavy casualties among Konoha’s shinobi and civilians. 71
Tsunade responds with an S-rank combat alert and orders all available jonin to defend the village and evacuate civilians. Chenshu’s Wood Release intervention prevents Deva Path Pain from freely repeating his destructive techniques. 71
Chenshu arrives atop a colossal Wood Dragon, restoring morale among Konoha’s defenders. He deploys the Senju ANBU to engage the individual Paths of Pain while he confronts Deva Path directly. 72
When Deva Path employs Planetary Devastation, buildings, forests, and villagers are drawn into a massive gravitational sphere, placing the entire village at risk of annihilation. Chenshu manifests the incomplete True Several Thousand Hands and bombards the sphere with its wooden fists, disrupting the technique and preventing Konoha’s immediate destruction. 74 75
Chenshu continues the battle after awakening Mangekyo Sharingan: Kamui, forcing Pain to withdraw rather than continue the assault. Obito also retreats after observing Chenshu’s capabilities, ending the invasion in Konoha’s favor. 76 78
Although the village survives, its central district is left devastated by craters, collapsed buildings, fires, and heavy casualties. Chenshu orders the Senju ANBU to assist the injured and clear rubble while Konoha begins reconstruction. 78 80
Fourth Shinobi World War
Following Obito’s declaration of the Fourth Shinobi World War at the Five Kage Summit, Konoha joins the other great ninja villages in forming the Allied Shinobi Forces. 100 106
Chenshu serves as the alliance’s Supreme Commander by the unanimous acceptance of the Five Kage, though he refuses responsibility for routine troop management and instead commits to personally defeating Akatsuki. 106
Konoha contributes forces to the alliance’s mobilization at the Land of Fire border, where shinobi from all five nations are reorganized under shared “Ninja” forehead protectors. The Senju ANBU protects Chenshu’s command area within the Konoha camp. 110
