Team 7 Formation and Survival Exercise

The Third Hokage assigns Kakashi to lead the unusual four-person Team 7: Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, and Chenshu. 2 He conducts the bell exercise with only three bells, but ultimately passes all four students after judging their conduct through his principle that comrades must be cherished. 3

Land of Waves Mission

Kakashi leads Team 7's escort of Tazuna and uses a Substitution Technique to test or evade the Demon Brothers' ambush. He identifies them as Hidden Mist chunin and gives the team the option to withdraw once Tazuna reveals Zabuza may be involved. 4
