Background

Yuto is a transmigrator who grew up in the Hyuga branch family. When he was three, his parents were fatally wounded while serving as guards for a main-family member; he was forcibly taken away and branded with the Bird in a Cage seal before he could witness their deaths. The seal and the clan’s hereditary division between main and branch families became the foundation of his hatred for the Hyuga system. 7

He trained obsessively from childhood, becoming a genin at six and earning the public nickname “Hyuga’s Jade” through relentless practice rather than effortless talent. Privately, he despises the title because it binds his identity to the clan that treats branch-family members as tools. 4 8

At twelve, Yuto served in a border reconnaissance team led by Sugisaki Tetsujiro. After the squad’s battle with Hidden Cloud shinobi, Yuto murdered the surviving Tetsujiro to conceal his betrayal, then reported the deaths as the result of the enemy ambush while delivering the stolen intelligence to the village. 1 4 6

Yuto eventually used the corpses and bloodlines of Hyuga clansmen to pursue a Bloodline Replenishment Plan intended to restore his Ōtsutsuki heritage and overcome the limitations imposed by Bird in a Cage. This research produced the disposable God’s Masks that allow him to enter Mask Mode. 64 68 73

Although he spent years building prestige as one of Konoha’s greatest young shinobi and later served as its first ANBU Minister, Yuto ultimately defected after the Crimson Night massacre of the Hyuga Clan. Yuto presents himself as respectful, composed, and devoted to the village’s ideals. He carefully performs the role expected of “Hyuga’s Jade,” concealing his intentions from Hyuga Hiashi and Sarutobi Hiruzen while using their assumptions to gain freedom and influence. 5 6 7

In private, he is lively and cheerful despite his isolation, using self-reliance and training to resist despair. His discipline is severe: he repeats a Gentle Fist movement one hundred times whenever his strike misses its intended mark. 7 8

Yuto is calculating and ruthless when pursuing his objectives.
