Background / History
Headband Guy acquired Primeape as a Mankey Egg, reportedly descended from a Beginner King-level Primeape. He considered Primeape worthless after repeated losses, ignored injuries caused by his own poor commands, and eventually offered him for trade while he was weak and caged. 51
Roy recognized that this Primeape was unusually calm and capable of rational thought despite the species' reputation for explosive tempers. He traded for him, paid for his treatment, and brought him into a team that included Litwick, Duskull, and Misdreavus. Primeape initially remained shy and insecure, but Roy's confidence in him gave him a sense of belonging. 58 67 72
Primeape became determined to uncover the undiscovered evolution Roy called Annihilape. Learning Rage Fist forced him to confront the anger caused by Headband Guy's abuse; repeated attempts risked his control and health. Roy supported his training with Ghost Power, custom Pokéblocks, and eventually a calming reagent supplied by Agatha. 88 119 224 226
Before the Edge Cup's main event, Primeape secretly attempted to force his evolution because he wanted to help Roy win. At the twentieth Rage Fist, he understood that his anger was rooted not only in resentment, but in his need to protect Roy. This realization dispersed the Black Aura and triggered his evolution into Annihilape. 232 233
Appearance
Before evolving, Primeape had beige fur and bronze-colored limbs. After becoming Annihilape, he grew from roughly Roy's waist height to nearly Roy's chest and developed a far more imposing Ghost-type aura. 233
- Flowing white fur with a gas-like appearance. 233
- Crimson eyes and grayish-brown limbs. 233
- Retained damaged iron wrist bands from his pre-evolution training; one vanished during evolution, while the other remained broken. 233
- Emits white vapor and a distinctly gloomy, Ghost-type presence. 236
Personality
Primeape is exceptionally rational for his species. He is shy around unfamiliar companions, embarrassed by praise, and able to assess battles independently rather than charging blindly. His aptitude for watching techniques, understanding them, and applying them in combat led Roy to call him a martial-arts genius. 58 67 83
His former mistreatment left him afraid that Roy would abandon him after a loss. This trauma can turn into intense, dangerous rage when he uses Rage Fist or Black Aura, especially when he mistakes opponents for Headband Guy. Roy's voice and physical reassurance consistently bring him back to himself. 83 88 223
Primeape's central motivation is protecting Roy. He trains obsessively, worries about Roy's finances and well-being, shares food with teammates, and refuses to remain with the Primeape tribe because he wants to stay at Roy's side. 84 231 274
Abilities & Skills
Defiant
Primeape's natural Ability sharply raises his Attack when his stats are lowered. 51
- Remained active even under Agatha's High-level Elite Four Arbok's overwhelming Pressure. 128
- Was temporarily exchanged for Levitate through Duskull's Skill Swap before automatically returning after about ten minutes. 69
Martial Arts and Physical Combat
Primeape combines exceptional strength with learned boxing, locking, throwing, and footwork techniques. 87 193
- Learned Fighting-type techniques such as Drain Punch and Close Combat by studying battle footage. 116
- Used Vital Throw and Seismic Toss to defeat a much larger Hariyama. 208
- Chased Milotic underwater, dragged it back onto the ice, and used locks and throws to defeat it. 193
- Can shatter a person-sized boulder with an ordinary punch. 275
Rage Fist
Rage Fist converts anger and received damage into Ghost-type power. Roy's records describe a normal maximum power of 350. 72
- Initially required Roy's Ghost Power because Primeape had no innate Ghost-type energy. 88
- Later sustained the move using custom Ghost-energy Pokéblocks and his own reserves. 119
- Black Aura could further strengthen the attack, but amplified his rage and threatened his self-control. 220
- Reached power 200 against Throh after repeated hits, breaking through defensive barriers. 222
- Broke a power-measuring device capped at 999 during testing after evolving. 298
- Damaged Professor Oak's Champion-level Dragonite despite being rated below Champion level. 299
Elemental Punches
Roy created custom Pokéblocks containing Fire-, Ice-, and Ghost-type energy so Primeape could use moves outside his natural typing. 119
- Fire Punch — Covers his left fist in flames and leaves scorch marks on impact. 119
- Ice Punch — Covers his right fist in frost and freezes the struck surface. 119
- Rage Fist — Uses the Ghost-type energy supplied through the same Pokéblock process. 119
Shadow Steal and Endeavor
Marshadow taught Annihilape Shadow Steal and Endeavor as compensation after entering his dream. 340
- Was subsequently observed entering and emerging from shadows, including Misdreavus's shadow. 340
- Used Drain Punch to restore stamina during close combat with Reiji's Drapion. 393
Leader's Aura
The former Primeape leader transferred his tribal Leader's Aura to Annihilape after being defeated. 274
- Allows him to sense the tribe's emotions. 274
- May provide up to a 5% permanent base-stat increase as the tribe grows. 274
- He declined to stay as the tribe's resident leader, instead appointing the former leader to manage it while he remained a remote authority. 274
Equipment / Items
- Power Band — Held during his Level 52 scan and retained alongside Leader's Aura. 206 274
- Weighted training bracelet — Roy set it to impose sixty-eight kilograms of distributed gravity resistance during training. 94
- Eviolite — Used before evolution to reinforce his defenses; Primeape accepted it despite finding it unpleasant after Duskull carried it. 85
- Large-screen communicator — Used to study Fighting-type battles and techniques. 98
- Custom Pokéblocks — Roy-made consumables supplying Fire-, Ice-, and Ghost-type energy for elemental punches and Rage Fist training. 119
- Calming reagent — Oak Research Lab medicine given by Agatha to stabilize his rage after the Throh incident. 224 226
Relationships
- Roy — Trainer, partner, and the person Primeape considers the best Trainer in the world; his trust in Roy became the key to evolving into Annihilape. 72 233
- Headband Guy — Former abusive Trainer who abandoned and demeaned him; Annihilape later killed him with repeated Rage Fist attacks. 51 243
- Misdreavus / Flutter Mane — Teammate and frequent translator for Primeape's communications with Roy. 69 215
- Litwick / Lampent — Early teammate; Litwick protected Roy with Protect when Primeape first lost control of Rage Fist. 58 88
- Snorunt — Reassured Primeape that Roy would not abandon him, helping him resolve to control his anger. 225
- Dusclops — Training companion who shared a whole Shaderoot Carrot with Primeape during his secret evolution attempt. 231
- Marshadow — Entered Annihilape's dream, identified him as possessing a pure heart, and later taught him Shadow Steal and Endeavor. 336 340
- Former Primeape leader — Local tribal administrator who surrendered Leader's Aura to Annihilape and continues running the tribe in his absence. 274 449

Trivia
- Primeape was described by an examiner as the most rational Primeape he had ever seen. 83
- He remained fearless when facing Giratina and Agatha's High-level Elite Four Arbok. 120 128
- His evolution was the only known successful Primeape-to-Annihilape evolution at the time Roy discussed it with Pheobe. 437
- Marshadow's Rainbow Wing test identified Annihilape—not Roy—as the one with a pure heart. 336
- He dislikes excessive noise; a noisy tribal gathering provoked him into splitting a boulder with a minimum-power Rage Fist. 449
