Background / History

A group of Demon Lords had been suppressed within the Azure Cloud Sect for roughly a thousand years, confined behind Spatial Crystal Walls within the Azure Sky Ultimate Cloud Formation. Their release was feared as a threat capable of devastating the Azure Cloud Continent and overturning the balance among the major sects 244 248.

While imprisoned, the Demon Lords discovered that Zhang Yang could absorb their Demonic Dao Power. After one of them probed him with Demonic Soul Power, they concluded that he carried the Devil Race's legendary Sacred Physique and suspected that he had been sent by the Demon Venerable. They concealed this belief and chose to accommodate his demands while pretending to resist him 120.

Zhang Yang later used an ancient Devil Race art to forge the True Names of five Demon Lords into imprints. Azure Cloud Master suppressed these imprints in his Dao Domain, gaining the ability to command the five and potentially kill one by destroying its imprint 243. The first released group was relocated to the West Mountain Forbidden Grounds, where their unrestrained auras turned the area into a contained, demon-domain-like death zone 247.

The released Demon Lords soon became a decisive part of Azure Cloud Sect's deterrence. Gu Yan forced the Late Tribulation Realm Zhou Xuansheng into retreat, while Gudoer and Gu Meiying killed Dao Integration Realm cultivators from opposing forces 250. Azure Cloud Master later used both real and simulated Demon Lords to project overwhelming military strength against the other great sects 252.

More Demon Lords were gradually released as Azure Cloud Sect's formation became strong enough to maintain control. By Chapter 467, Zhang Yang released five additional Demon Lords, bringing the known Azure Cloud Sect contingent to ten 467. The remaining imprisoned Demon Lords were subsequently released when the formation's inward suppression was removed 615.

After Zhang Yang's identity as the Demon Venerable's son was confirmed, Demon Lords such as Gudoer accepted him as their Young Lord. Zhang Yang later instructed several Demon Lords that indulgence in desire alone could not lead them to the Demon King Realm, offering resources and guidance in exchange for their service in the Demon Realm 1399 1403.

Appearance

Demon Lords have no single uniform appearance. Their bodies and manifestations vary according to their Demonic Dao, but they are consistently described as unnatural, imposing, and hostile to the Laws of Heaven and Earth.

• A pitch-black Demon Lord possessed a body two or three zhang tall, with a waist thicker than a water barrel; even after shrinking himself, he initially could not fit through the opening in the Spatial Crystal Wall 244.
• Some Demon Lords manifest as shadows or mist. One emerged as a shadowy mass that expanded to hundreds of zhang across after leaving confinement 244.
• Gu Meiying's presence takes the form of a sinister demonic cloud hundreds of miles wide 250.
• Gu Xue's fully recovered body is blood-red, and his aura can make nearby people's blood surge uncontrollably 574.

Personality

The Demon Lords are proud, pragmatic, and highly conscious of dignity. During negotiations with Zhang Yang, they demanded that their True Names not be used to compel actions that harmed their dignity, even while accepting the necessity of cooperation 241.

Their cooperation with Azure Cloud Sect began as coercion under True Name suppression, but several Demon Lords later acted strategically in pursuit of Devil Race interests. Gudoer in particular repeatedly advocates restraint, gathers intelligence, bargains for greater freedom, and plans around long-term objectives such as reopening the Nine Nether Demon Domain and contacting the Demon Venerable 241 389 507.

Demon Lords wield Demonic Dao Power, a power fundamentally incompatible with the ordinary Laws of Heaven and Earth.
