Ch. 601Awakening: Saiba
Key plot points and events
- Great Blood, the Monster-producing Proxy Unit, catches up with Ceruno’s group inside the wormhole. It has compressed from a vast mass into a ten-meter-tall, colorless imitation of a woman.
- The group works to keep City School’s damaged bubble shield intact while preparing to defend Ceruno. Their attacks seem ineffective because Great Blood’s humanoid body is only a false shape; at its core, it remains a liquid Monster.
- Ceruno proposes using Fomalhaut’s freezing magic, which once immobilized the Black Pool and its Guardians. SpiCa returns to the Central District to retrieve Ceruno’s father, who is still in her cocoon, hoping his magic can help.
- Miluno warns that Great Blood carries immense Dark Energy and could establish a Monster nest on Earth, making its arrival catastrophic.
- As Sirius, Miluno, Flow, and the other magical girls form a defensive line around Ceruno, she resolves not only to accept their protection but to protect them in return.
- Ceruno draws more power from Miss Terra, maintaining City School’s shield and giving each magical girl a protective bubble. Miluno fears this growing reliance will bring Ceruno dangerously close to Earth Crystal.
- Miluno attacks Great Blood with time magic, splitting it into pieces moving at different speeds. The creature reforms into a giant mouth and swallows her.
Character developments and interactions
- Ceruno shows greater confidence and accepts her role as the group’s hope, but also insists on becoming a protector rather than relying indefinitely on others. She uses more of Terra’s power despite the risk.
- Miluno acts boldly against Great Blood and reveals how deeply she fears losing Ceruno, pleading with her to stop drawing on Earth’s power. Her powerful attack appears to work briefly, but ends with her being swallowed.
- Sirius takes command of the defense and reinforces Ceruno’s importance, encouraging her as the others protect her.
- Miss Terra supports Ceruno’s resolve and agrees to lend her power, responding warmly when Ceruno recognizes her as a person.
- SpiCa remains focused on protecting the group and retrieving Ceruno’s father, though Ceruno privately worries that SpiCa intends to brainwash him.
Significant themes
- Protection and reciprocity: Ceruno has repeatedly been protected by others, but now chooses to protect them in return.
- Power and sacrifice: Ceruno’s growing strength may come at the cost of drawing closer to Earth Crystal, a danger Miluno fears.
- Hope amid overwhelming danger: The group places its survival—and perhaps Earth’s—on Ceruno, even as Great Blood appears resistant to ordinary attacks.
- Trust and personhood: Ceruno’s recognition of Miss Terra as a person deepens their bond, while uncertainty about SpiCa’s intentions complicates trust.
