Background / History

Separation and flight into the human world

Gu Yuena split her power and personality into two incarnations: Gu Yue and Na'er. Unlike the colder, calculating Gu Yue, Na'er left Star Dou Great Forest alone to explore the human world while Gu Yue was still asleep. Di Tian could not leave Gu Yue's side, so he ordered Chen An to locate and safely return Na'er. 2

Na'er concealed her aura after reaching Shrek City, where the presence of many powerful Soul Masters disrupted Chen An's Dragon Scale-based tracking. Chen An ultimately found her hungry and unwilling to return to the forest. 4

Rather than force her back, Chen An promised food, companionship, and a chance to experience human life. Na'er agreed only provisionally, insisting that she would judge his behavior for herself. 4 5

Time with Chen An

Na'er and Chen An traveled through human cities for several months under a sibling-like cover identity. They agreed that Chen An would address her as “My Lord” around soul beasts, while she would call him “big brother” around outsiders. 5 8

After Chen An returned from the confrontation, Na'er grabbed his arms and checked him for injuries. Their subsequent travels included stays in parks, visits to marketplaces, and a journey across the continent by soul-powered train. 8

Zi Ji eventually located them after Gu Yue awakened. Na'er accepted returning to Star Dou only after Chen An promised to take her out again and buy her more food; the two sealed the promise with a pinky swear. 8

Return to Star Dou and assigned duty

Back in Star Dou Great Forest, Na'er was present for Gu Yue's declaration that soul beasts needed to infiltrate and learn from human society rather than remain isolated. Gu Yue assigned Na'er to attend humanity's highest academy as part of that effort. 9 10

The academy was identified as Shrek, with its inner court described by Chen An as Na'er's intended destination. In a subsequent recurrence, her image changes from an apparently lifeless state into a lucid, lonely girl who realizes she is dreaming.
